    Thank you very much for this video. I have a video doorbell and could not understand why the mechanical doorbell stopped working after installing the doorbell. Everything was wired properly, and Dr. Google was no help until I found your video. New transformer ordered. Legend. Thank you again.

    If you can not locate your transformer because it was buried in the wall or something just get a ring pro 2 it comes with a power supply kit, you wire that to the trans and front screws like he shows and you don’t need to replace the transformer. Works with 16v 10VAC just like he has. That was my exact case and works just fine

      Hi...my current doorbell transformer puts out 15.9V @ the transformer...will that work, or does that 0.1v's make that much of a difference? I did order a Ring Pro2 and acording to what i see online, it does have the Power Pro Kit 3 in the box, but i thought i still needed to have 16v's minimum to make it work? If i can just hook the Pro kit to my trans and be good..i'm surely happy with that!

    Thank you very much! Very clear concise short. My problem was 5 year old house, wife heard buzzing in closet wall. Nothing in there. When I held plastic db cover in kitchen it buzzed less. Got larger transformer as u suggested. Hidden in behind doorbell like yours. I replaced old smaller tf. Works great. No buzz. Our dog started barking like yours so I knew it was fixed.

      @Rita Martinez I would suggest a different route. Because you would have to not only add the transformer, but then wire it to your front door. I would really suggest a fully wireless unit like this. This is the wireless version of the one that I use. Great video! I measured the voltage at my current bell button as 18V. Should I be OK from an amperage standpoint? Also, there is an unused green wire at my current button. Does that get used by Ring?

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  2 года назад +1

      Voltage and Amperage are two different things. The second number that I read off in the video was the amperage output. And if you have the Ring doorbell, I don't know their exact requirements or exact install. I know this isn't helping very much. I would suggest to first find your transformer, which may be behind the doorbell like mine, or in your heater closet. They have also been found in attics, but that sucks to find. And then when you find it check it's output and check with your ring doorbell and see if it fits the requirements. Or, you can just install it and see if it works right. My Arlo camera that I started with didn't have a diagnostic to check the voltage and amperage, but the Eufy does, and that's when I found out that I didn't have a good enough transformer. I don't know if Ring has a diagnostic check or not. Good luck with your project. Thank you for watching. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  3 года назад

      Ok, I am still not understanding if you are only changing the button, or the doorbell unit and the transformer. Ok, so the power at the button is low voltage. You can feel it but it is not dangerous. The same for the power at the doorbell unit. The power at the transformer is full 110/120. You asked what do you need to do with the voltage detector. Well, detect voltage... You wanted to know how to find the right breaker for the doorbell. So, have someone hold the voltage detector by the wires. It will beep. When the second person flips the right breaker the voltage detector will stop beeping.

      This isn't to code - you're not supposed to install a transformer this way. But a lot of homes do have it this way because it's more convenient. The reason you're not supposed to do it this way is because you have high voltage and low voltage in the same box.

    Hi I have the same problem I have to change mines out because I don’t have 16/30. If I switch it out does it interfered with other stuff like the thermostat? Or is it only for doorbell use?

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  2 года назад +1

      This should only be wired to the doorbell. The thermostat should be wired directly from the heater unit only. Good luck with your project.

      @@AroundTheHome1 had a quick question. My ring is 8-24vac / 5vdc. Which works great with the house without changing anything.
      Wire eufy requires 16-24vac / 30va. The battery eufy requires 8-24vac / 10va. My transformer in the house is 24v - 20va. Will I be okay with the battery one without having to change anything in the house? Thank you

      It would be a lot easier to just install a wireless doorbell like this one. Here is a great one www.amazon.com/eufy-Security-1080p-Grade-Resolution-Detection/dp/B08DXD8LSR?dchild=1&keywords=eufy+doorbell&qid=1622335606&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExSUowM1FPNVRIMkJPJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDE3NTk4MlVBQ0FQVFo3TTlCUiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMDgzNjgwMUxTOFQ3SFlITk05SiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU%3D&linkCode=ll1&tag=greatwhitenin-20&linkId=00238b75e27a1378e07fd3173955da19&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl
      There is no service fee for the Eufy cameras. This is a good one with 1080p resolution.
      Here is a better one with 2K resolution and longer battery life. www.amazon.com/dp/B081C4JN51?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B081C4JN51&pd_rd_w=bGUh2&pf_rd_p=5d846283-ed3e-4512-a744-a30f97c5d738&pd_rd_wg=dIe0F&pf_rd_r=JGM0X3V6SM87TXYWAG3Z&pd_rd_r=e3066e1b-2ab7-4e95-a596-d18bd335894f&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExMkJSS1g3MUJLOEtOJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNTY3NjQ0MUY3N0hRS0JaNjFBQSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjYyMzEyTkpZMVEwWDZKU0YyJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfZGV0YWlsX3RoZW1hdGljJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ%3D%3D&linkCode=ll1&tag=greatwhitenin-20&linkId=5ad7a003f7ccc0cd49c7cb6515b7da28&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl
      But if you want to know where I would put it, then I would put it behind the chime unit like in this video. Much closer to the front door then the mechanical room / heater closet.

      ?? I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you asking does it have a transformer? Or maybe where it may be? Is your home in the US? Which state? Do you have a wired doorbell?

      @@AroundTheHome1 apologies. I was asking if a house built in 1950 would have a transformer, not sure now why I thought you might know. You never indicated to be an expert on all homes transformer status. Lol. That was my intention at least, sorry for not being specific, and you might not know my answer, but I live in Oklahoma. I have a wired doorbell. I purchased a ring wired doorbell. I know where the chime is, I installed the ring doorbell as per the instructions and got a notification: “ Upgrade to a Ring Hardwired Transformer or Plug-In Adapter, or install a doorbell transformer that meets the requirements for your Ring doorbell. “ I came to RUclips and found your video and in a rush posted that question thinking you might know if a home built in that era might utilize a transformer or not. My mistake.

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  Год назад +1

      It's not a mistake to think that I might know, I just didn't have enough information from your first question. The transformer for homes in that age would typically be in one of two locations. First in the mechanical room, or the heater closet. It might be located right between the water heater and the heater. If it is there most of the time is was mounted right on top of the on/off switch for the heater. The second place would be the attic. Many times if it is in the attic it would just be screwed to a random support. Hope that helps at least a little.

      Some are hard to find. That's why sometimes just using a battery unit isn't a bad idea either.
