Those takeoffs thru the trees were spectacular views. So much fun and listening to two experienced Aviators, especially one instructor learning from the other was like double the learning through the conversation. Some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole wide world. Thank You for sharing your seaplane dual time with us. I'd like to fly anything and everything so time in the water on floats flying...absolutely!
That pesky water rudder pull up! My left hand developed more muscle in that one week I was in Alaska training floats than they ever did before. Everything about floats is fun. That evaluation process exploring a new lake and then being able to land there when no one else is around is so satisfying. Glassy water landings were my most favorite though.
I appreciated your commenting on your saturation point. Made me feel better about my learning experiences! I also appreciate Sarah's teaching style. Thanks for sharing the journey.
She a different beast than your plane.. Sarah is an outstanding instructor. I saw her with Josh, from Aviation 101. She had to correct him too, so don't feel bad. You got much deeper into it than Josh. I think you did great for your first time out. You need to get your rating.
Had grand plans pre-COVID to be over there with you guys doing my float and ski training but Australia is still under a travel ban. Patience is a virtue apparently...
I like how she had you go through the motions, such as circling, and talk through what you're going to do as you're in different positions. That's exactly how I would want to learn.
Outstanding video Chris, I am so impressed with Sarah as a CFI. A VERY skilled instructor! I need to get past a medical issue (liver transplant) then shake the accumulated rust off and get my sorry keester back in the air. Keep it up both of you!
Chris, awesome video and awesome instruction. I took a float lesson from Sarah Aug2019 and at your 10:50 we spotted a bear on the river bank. As a bonus, on a remote lake I also had the joy of a glassy water landing and takoff. Keep up these great videos. Thanks. Wayne (DA40 KSBA)
Two names great to hear again, Talkeetna and Sarah. Brings back great memories from the Alaska Series with Josh. The scenery you're treated to is amazing!!! Looking forward to more seaplane videos.
Awesome stuff Chris, I'm jealous! Looks absolutely gorgeous up there. Stoked you're getting that commercial float rating! Also lol @7:32 as you're going toward the trees and she tells you to put in a bit more power and you confirm "IN a bit more power, ok" as the trees are now getting even closer more quickly and then as she's talking "...am I turning left?" I swear I could see your mind going "Hmm, trees. Umm, trees getting bigger. Trees still getting bigger. Hey umm, TREES."
Love the lean you put into your turns. LOL I would be the same way. Very interesting how counterintuitive everything seemed to be. Fun video and great instruction.
I sold my 56 182 to a guy who lives in AK, and I believe he put it on floats. Would've been so Awesome to fly her off the water. Sarah's an excellent instructor. Awesome vids.
Man this is awesome I am just exploring my options into becoming an aviation pilot. This video is one of my favourite's yet. The ability to be able to jump puddle to puddle is awesome.
Very cool. Exciting to see an instructor as a student. The value of video for a student becomes very evident in this video. Very well done by Sarah and you.
Amazing Chris, when we can travel again, I’m leaving my island (Australia) and heading over to get my rating and take in that amazing scenery. Smashed the like button like a thousand times
Wow... spectacular views and excellent training. That young lady Sarah seems like a very patient instructor and also seems to enjoy what she does. There's nothing better than training with an instructor who loves what they do. I love how she provides constant feedback throughout the entire training process. By the way, I'm jealous... Alaska and a sea plane rating is definitely on my bucket list. Throttle on my friend! Fly safe and fly often!
Sarah is the absolute best! Getting my seaplane rating is on my bucket list, and it would be awesome to do in Alaska with Sarah. She seems to explain everything so well.
Awww gosh...I’m in trouble. Thanks a lot Chris!!! The only type of flying that really has my interest remaining. So I’m a new joiner and can’t wait to learn vicariously so in advance, thank you. I look forward to watching ur adventure.
Great video Chris I loved watching the high speed turns on the water. Your initial reaction when doing high speed turns was hilarious. Will be waiting for more vids on getting your floatplane rating. Sarah seems to be an awesome instructor very patient.
Loved it!! My fiance' and I are getting married in Talkeetna, AK on 12 May. We are doing a glacier landing with K2 and having our ceremony on the glacier. As a lower 48 pilot with instrument rating I may have to stop in Alaska Floats and Ski's and see if I can't get a seaplane demo/intro to float flying. I don't think I'll be allowed to do a full float rating through........the newly minted wife may be opposed to that.......LOL!
Chris great job on the learning. Must be a little weird going from training to learning. The best part of the video is the the scenery that you guys get to fly in. Now with that said the complete video was great. Yes someday I would like to get a seaplane rating, as the endgame plan in my live is to move up there. But one thing at a time and IFR first. Have a great week.
Nice video. Was always intrigued by floatplanes. I got through about 30 mins now have to move on. Liked the video. Curious if you were still at 2000rpm upon takeoff - I wasn't sure about that. Sarah seems like a good teacher. Thanks for sharing a lovely day in Talkeetna 🙂💐🌠🦅
Makes me want to take some seaplane lessons when I go to Alaska in the future even though I’ve already got the rating and it’s all I’ve flown for 4 years. Sarah seems like a great instructor ! Mine was very knowledgeable to but his primary language was French so I’m sure I missed out on some knowledge during translation.
Sarah, really awesome job and I think Chris did great on this first foray! I’m starting to rethink that seaplane rating; I learned a ton from this! -Joe Comm (ASEL, AMEL), CFI, CFI-I
Great video Chris, love seeing you in the student role. You and Sarah provide lots of information. Look forward to seeing more of your training. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. 🤘🇺🇸🛩️
I am already excited to come up there and get my float rating with Sarah, and its still 18 month away for me! I hope she is still there; she seems like a fantastic instructor. great video Chris
With learning something new; we always say, "You are drinking from the firehose!" Those step turns are unnerving to say the least. I remember my SES training. Your body is screaming at you because you are in a huge sliding turn! But that Ah Ha moment, when you related the power settings in relation to the track of the nose, brought back memories.
Yes I’d love to get my seaplane rating sometime... I soloed several weeks ago, and was curious why you pulled carb heat for 3 seconds because I’m used to pulling it out abeam the numbers on down wind and leaving it until after landing checklist!!!
Great video! I watched Josh's float plane training with Sarah during his Alaska series. She seams like such an easy going instructor! I'm doing my float rating this spring in my new to me C-180 on floats I just bought. My instructor won't be as good looking lol!
Floats change things a lot more than one would think! So being on step basically = getting a boat up on plane? I can definitely see that would take a long time to put everything together, & form that muscle memory! Makes me wonder, if one found themselves on a smaller take, if one could actually take off while turning on step in a pinch.
Lots of similarities to ski flying it seems. Glass water landing is sort of similar to a whiteout landing. We just thump it down a bit more aggressively, which I guess you can't get away with on floats.
Great video as always Chris! I hope to get up to Alaska some day. I got some recommendations from Don Lee on what wing I should put on my experimental Pacer. Love the Pacer!
I really felt the leans doing step turns haha. I felt like the landings weren't harder but a lot less forgiving. Docking was actually the most challenging for sure for me. I am not a boater though haha
@@thehighwayman78 Hi there. Do you mean the location of Chris’ flight? If so, it is Alaska Floats and Skis on Christiansen Lake, and nearby lakes, in Talkeetna, Alaska. Or do you mean my reproduction of his flight in MSFS? If so, it might be on my new RUclips Channel in a few days - click on my icon picture at left. Cheers.
Very impressive to watch her train and confidence in flying. I think I'll stick to Microsoft flight simulator 😆. So much going on in flying and so many distractions and tower traffic radio going on. Plus invisible things trying to kill you such as air density, down drafts, head winds, low fuel ect. Amazing more people aren't killed flying such a boating accidents at boat launch. Much respect for aviators everywhere. Enjoyed watching this.
Would putting in carb heat for a three count for a standard GLUMPS be ok (like you are doing in the video) vs. Leaving carb heat in for a landing? I like the idea... because if I had to do a go-around, I don't like that have to think about Full power, car heat off, remove flaps one notch at a time (after a positive rate of climb)... just thinking out loud...
This is great - thank you for sharing. I almost want to think I could successfully take off and land on glassy water without anything else. I well know that is incorrect thinking , just saying though.
I live in the middle of the East Coast and have been looking for a sea plane school to get my Commercial ASES. All the people I follow online go here but all my pilot peers fly down to Jack Brown's for a week to get theirs. I'm torn between the two!
What was your favorite part of the video? Would you like to get your seaplane rating?

Had a great time flying & learning with you Chris! Can’t wait for your next project with Alaska Floats & Skis :)
Her voice lowers my blood pressure. So talented.

Those high speed taxis scare the heck outta me watching.
Sarah your voice and instruction is great. I enjoyed watching. And yes you are a vary nice looking smart young lady flyer instructor.

Lol ikr!
I love how calm and soothing Sarah is while instructing
Seriously, we need to bottle that.

I flew that very float plane with Brookie Roman when I visited all the way from London! Awesome to relive it.

@12:20 is this woman packin heat!? There’s nothing she can’t do!
Alaska. Check out any fly fishing guides working up there. Everybody carries, the same as on Svalbard.
Not a handgun. It's a knife. See the ending of " Laura's Intro Flight with Sarah at Alaska Floats and Skis" after they exit the plane.

I would guess so not to get lake water in the intake, us land plane pilots don't have that issue for obvious reasons.
another nice video THANKS

what a good instructor. Mine wasn't as "nice" - but I made it. and rarely used it in North BC Canada. I was in a SuperCub.
