I live in Bakersfield and I like it here. I was like a lot of people who thought this was going to be a shit hole but it's not. I live in the Westside of town and it's really nice and green. Super affordable! I lived in Los Angeles and I couldn't do shit because I was paying $2500 for rent. It's only boring for people who hate their lives and sit at home and complain about everything. The racism here is the same as anywhere. The homeless population is the same as anywhere and the crime is the same as anywhere. Yeah there's rough parts in town but again, same as anywhere else. Air quality is okay, it's not that bad (compared to LAs smog) its not like we live in fucking China or India. Lol if you hate a place so bad just move and stop bitching. I moved here because it was a great opportunity for work and I'm sure I'm not the only person who did the same.
its really too bad that the air quality is actually worse than any other city in the nation. people who sit at home and do nothing would actually like bakersfield more than the ones who go outside since they don't have to smell the putrid odor of cow shit and chemicals every time they leave their front door.

I'm moving there too because of a job offer. I've made a few trips to Bakersfield and there are some nice areas out there, like areas close to UCB or Northwest Bakersfield. Do not let negativity discourage you. Everywhere you go there will always be shitty places and nice ones too. It is all up to you to make the most of it. Good luck to you!
depends on the area of Bakersfield you'll be working. shafter, wasco, arvin, lamont, they are outside of bakersfield. if you can help it don't move to the east side of bakersfield. unless it's very close to Bakersfield college area.
