Too many things to list on this one, but first ride on the Crafty, new kit from Madison and a look at the new Nukeproof Megawatt from 20Twentystore.com are the main points.
Got to ride with Scott for the first time, along with Fern the trail dog, on new to me trails on Scolty hill and we have ourselves a great day on the bike.

Great video…and featuring what must be the country’s fittest Labrador…now that dog has real skills! 👍
I very much judged a book by its cover with Fern. She very much exceeded my expectations 💨
Liking these videos of wild enduro trails. Kudos to the Aboyne trail builders 🤙
Glad you like them! Good quality trail building👌
Omg Andrew. Looooooos amazing 🤯👍. So glad you had a good ride and are jelling with the new bike 👍👍👍
Cheers dude, getting on with the bike very well indeed 👌
@@McTrailRider so glad to hear 👍
Love Scolty, so many trails up there you can link up to make a world class circuit. Miss living in Aberdeenshire so much
I’ve full got a lot more to explore there, although many trails have been affected by recent storms.
That film was a bit of a blast from the past as I grew up in Tarland and now live near Glasgow Airport and having taken up EMTB cycling lately on a Haibike Nduro 6 from Synergy in Auchterarder after a childhood on 12 speed racing bikes then a hardtail mtb in adult life I do miss all those forests which were on my doorstep. I am looking forward to the spring so I can get back up North to explore some of those trails so I look forward to more of your content for inspiration.
I’m sure your move to Glasgow was for good reason, but from a mountain bike perspective, it was the wrong direction imo 😜
The riding in and around Tarland is some of the best in the country👌
Honestly the Madison dungarees are game-changers. I love mine, especially for days when the trails are wet but it's not necessarily raining. Keen to know how you like the jacket as I have an ageing MT500 due replacement but I've never found anything anywhere close to as breathable...
Good to hear on the dungarees 👍
I think the jacket will be more waterproof than the mt500, but maybe less breathable. Is way too early to say for sure though.
Great video again Andrew, passed you at Scolty in the car park, my friend had the wee dog in a back pack. Bike looks great. Ive moved my Kiox to be inboard rather than hanging over the front of the bike, it just looks a wee bit neater.
I remember you guys, the dog backpack was so cool! Stuck with me for while that one.
Nothing like testing out a battery powered mtb dressed in Duracell battery colours 😜 always loved a Mondy, hopefully pick one up next year
😂😂 didn’t see it until you mentioned it 😜
Well ridden Andrew - reaper is crazy in the dry let alone in the wet on a new bike!!
I’m keen to retry it in more favourable conditions 😜
I've just acquired a Scott Ransom, that has the Bosch CX motor and I really like the little boost after you stop pedalling, so handy on technical climbs. The salopettes are on my wishlist as well !
I didn’t like the overrun feature on the Bosch a few years ago, but this latest version is really quite useful.
As for the “salopettes”, I think they make huge sense for Mtb.
Excellent riding as usual, scary, I am really interested to see how you get on with the waterproof, hopefully not too sweaty .
I really like the dungarees, makes a lot of sense when you think about it.
They probably will get sweaty, don’t know if any waterproof doesn’t.
Thanks for the vid. That pupper shreds
Fern was very impressive to be fair 👏
That was a shiny bike..., looked good 👍
It will never be that shiny ever again 😢
Great vid mate lookin very snazzy bro . Nice ridin by all bro. That Reeper 1 looks insane nut fun eh
Reaper was pretty wild! 🤪
Proper steep indeed!!! 👊
Very much so😬
Easiest fix to keep Code brakes quiet and double their power without changing them is to fit Galfer Pro Compound pads. They are excellent then. Great trails!!!
Exactly what I’m doing 👍
Another good video. Wow, you guys love punishing yourselves, but it must be so rewarding at the end 👍🏽Ace
The harder you push yourself, the better the reward 🤘
Great first ride impressions of the crafty. Can I ask though, did you also look at the level r?
Im also looking at a crafty but the regular alloy R, I did see the level with more travel and a coil at a similar price point on sale but thought perhaps my eyes were bigger than my belly.
Your model i know is bumped to 170mm on the front and presumably hovers around a slightly more agressive head angle at 64-65 degrees but it seems to tackle pretty full on trails.
Keep doing your thing man
My decision was heavily influenced by the deal that I seen on this bike tbh.
I probably still wouldn’t have gone for the Level anyway, as I don’t think I need that amount of travel. I feel too much travel takes away from the riding to a certain extent.
😉 Great Stuff buddy enjoyed the video 😉 like the waterproof 👌 will check your link to their Store 😉👌🚴🚴 and the new bike had a good test 😉👌🚴
Cheers Taffy👍 The bike got a proper test for sure.
You said it with the "Jesus Christ" calls - that Reaper trail looked unbelievably steep on RUclips so must've been terrifying in real life! Extremely well ridden I have to say. The other newish trail off Masterblaster looked like no slouch in the vertical department either.
Nothing like some very full-on trails to help you jell with a new bike 🤪
The new Mondraker is mint. ⚡⚡ - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - some brakes just need 'dragged in' to service!. 🙂
I’d say they are bedded in now 😜
Did you get your Crafty?
Not quite yet... 😞@@McTrailRider
You did very well to keep up with Mike, he is a machine!. Ditch the Maxxis tyres and get some Michelin E-Wild enduro's or DH's on it. Tour + for the win, i find everything else too aggressive.
Mike doesn’t mess about, that’s for sure 💨
I’m a big fan of Michelin, but I think the Continental’s might be even better for this riding/conditions.
Awesome riding. You used up a few of your life’s on those trails. But got taken out by the sniper rock 🫣
It’s always the most innocuous things that catch you out 🤦🏼♂️
@@McTrailRideryou took it well TBF 🤙 I’ve gone for 155 mm on my eb on my new eb. Bit of a game changer
I have the Bosch motor in my E-bike & find myself in eco & tour most of the time.
I find EMTB eats the battery 🤔
Turbo is good fun for shorter, faster days out.
I’m still learning this system, but regardless of mode, I’m getting way further on the Bosch. Obviously the big battery helps a lot.
Like most Mondraker you have to ride over the front or that front wheel WILL wash out. They are very long front to centre so have to be ridden this way. The anti squat does make the rear suspension feel firm so maybe you will like that but I think it would benefit from a coil shock.
I have a Foxy RR analogue bike and it doesn't take prisoners of you are unskilled or just having a bad day.
Try adapting your riding style to place your weight more over the front and that puts you in attack mode.
Crafty XR 28.9 mi from your Strava feed clocking up the miles!
Typo Mondraker !! Crafty XR that's my bike for 2024 and yellow is cool too.
What an idiot 🤦🏼♂️ Fixed now 👍
Good choice of bike, enjoy 👍
Went to Aboyne a few weeks ago on my own for the first time. Trails not to be messed with. Not ashamed to say I walked down a couple of sections 😂
I do think that is one of the places that you really could do with a guide on. Not the most straight forward place, up or down.
@@McTrailRider Aye definitely helps. One gripe from the video...... That Sram drive train has me thinking 🤣 great video as always 👍🏻
@@youngbairn definitely don’t try it then 😬
I also went from a vitus e sommet to a crafty, rr spec though😢😂 u can remove the kiox from the system and just run with the top tube display and wireless bar remote. Clean look and no kiox to get destroyed in a crash (done before on a previous eeb).
The RR is still a great spec 👍
The kiox is now gone thankfully, for the reasons you mentioned👍
Amazing… if it looks steep on a GoPro you know it is f***** STEEP .. loving all the new gear, the trails, that bike!!!, and am I guessing right the new Hero 12? The colour profile is amazing and so impressive that it keeps things stable even in the low light in the forest. Care to share the settings to use? (I am expecting Santa to gift me a 12, too) 😂
Actually, I’m using the dji action 4 these days. Had the hero 12, but sold it, as I prefer the dji for the reasons you mentioned.
The GoPro is still a great camera, but I don’t think it’s the best anymore, maybe 3rd now if I’m honest.
@@McTrailRiderinteresting but I am glad you did given the excellent video performance you're producing with it. How did you find the transition to the new camera?
@@Chris_Knopf transition was relatively pain free, once I stopped trying to make it look like the GoPro did.
The low light performance and ease of colour grading really are standouts for the dji.
How did you find the bib trousers? Did you just wear your trousers under them?
I thought they were great. I didn’t wear trousers underneath, but that would be a good idea given the current weather conditions.
Get the tour plus taken of and auto mode on. It’s really good
Didn’t know that was a thing 🤔
@@McTrailRider yeah it is, bike shop can update it , but you take one of the modes off. I’ve a got a mondraker chaser R , smart system . I use auto mode all the time. Works on how much power you put in. Really good on them small uphills on trails. Dont have to go into another mode to get up the hill. As long as you not in to higher gear , the motor goes from eco up to turbo automatically. I like it any how , for me seems better than tour plus.
Andrew has gone fishing also lol at the fall.
I knew you’d wade in on that 😜
@@McTrailRider Its the kind of stupid shit I do.
@@MTBScotland you missed my joke 😢 “wade”😜
@@McTrailRider I can't read properly
If you're describing the trail as savage, I know I'd be walking down instead Andrew...😅
Haha, it was quite wild in places 😬
I find that the Galfer Purple E-Bike pads are much quieter than the sram ones Andrew.
Galfer are my go-to, but I prefer the green ones. They don’t last as long, but excel at everything else.
@@McTrailRider I'll give the green ones a go next time. Just about to put some Galfer Shark rotors on that I got in the sales. :) Top riding in the steep stuff BTW. :)
@@paulbaguley62 I’ve heard good things about those discs.
I can never get up that climb after turning left!
Glad I had the e-bike, not really any easy climbs at either spot.
@@McTrailRider I’ve never ridden Aboyne. It’s the only one in the area for me now. Drumtochty is my favourite and Kirkhill is the local.
strava link broken
Fixed it now 👍
Just cannot get past the mount placement for the display. 🤦♂
It’s not the best place to put it, that’s for sure!
First ride? When's the first showing us the damn bike?
10:02 that's it....all 2 seconds of upside down muddy footage
I done a whole video introducing the bike last week, if you took the time to look.
Makes me winch , no gloves 😬
