I like that this video had a brief introduction into the decks, makes it make more sense what actions the players are taking throughout because we have an idea whats going through their minds now.
Jon Irenicus is one of the most fun deckbuilding experiences at the moment. With his unique ability you can do so many weird things. But I have no clue why Max gave away Gisa. Keep her for as long as you can, destroy something and then give the resurrected, decayed guys away again. Sure, this doesn't give you the card-draw trigger but decay makes it, that they have to sacrifice the creature after combat - which gets prevented by Jon. They can't be saced so they stay on the board. And the problematic creatures can just chill on your side of the board. Maybe Max thought that you have to give a creature away with Jon, but this is false! You can give "up to one" creature away, which also can mean 0. This is probably the reason why he gave away Jon two times in the game, which in a nutshell doesn't make any sense at all. Hope he gets more games with Jon in so he learns this deck a bit more to give us another cool performance. GG
Just FYI with Jon Irenicus, the MEAN way to play is very similar to a mean Zedruu build where you give them bad gifts such as Hellcarver Demon, Desecration Elemental, Ebonblade Reaper, Plague Reaver, etc. It can become borderline stax after a certain point. While I don't think it's a bad idea to include a few of those for when an opponent is getting ahead, I like more the idea of putting unblockable dudes into the deck like Invisible stalker and such and just accruing more value than making yourself a huge target with the bad gifts plan.
I built the mean style Jon deck and while it's fun giving people awful creatures, I've found I need to have a healthy balance between creatures that suck to control and ones that suck to get hit by. I actually Hellcarver'd the bro last Friday, had the card maybe 14 years and it's the first time it's been played. Surprisingly fun deck!
The mean way is the only way to build it, because at some point the goad thing doesn't work anymore and you want your last opponent to be in the worst shape possible. The inclusion of small unblockable creatures is a really cool idea, never thought about it
@@amarauk9687 Unless you build the deck with specific 1v1 finishers. Torment of Hailfire, Toxic Deluge, and other fun wipes can reset the board, so that you're left with a whole lotta mana (from over the course of the game) and some big bois that you've been givin away all game.
I like the idea of the Jacques le Vert deck! However, I think Marath, Will of the Wild makes more sense at the helm to enable all of those enrage triggers, I run a handful of the same dinos in my current Marath build
i have a build for both commanders! I like jacques as you don't need to spend mana to pump hp, especially for stuff like broodhatch nantuko. helpful since you run lots of stuff that pings everything and have hp on everything *green*. my marath deck also runs a lot of deathtouch so i dont run much enrage in that deck.
The Irenicus deck was fun chaos and I liked it alot. I love Em Jae's deck, super cool build. Phytohydra is one of those pet cards I always loved when I played original Ravnica block. Liked seeing it in Dino self ping deck. And as always, love your mistform deck. Thanks for posting.
I might be mistaken but shouldn't MJ have had to pay more blue mana for mass manipulation? Since the reduction only reduces colorless. Maybe I missed him tap his mana idk
Second time I have watched a video of Max Jon Deck. Seems to me he has build a very soft version of what the deck can do. Theres a lot of swamp/island walking creatures out there, along with unblockable critters. Going over his deck list theres not one in there. Also I think its really misplaying Jon whenever he keeps giving his own commander away. Does he really understand what Jon does?
I love Jon Irenicus, I just built my own version, with creatures like Desecration Elemental, Plague Reaver, and Abyssal Persecutor (which can lead to some very interesting situations) the way I see it is sure you’re opponents don’t have their own board, but they do have huge beaters to smash each other with, and you if you get to a 1v1 and don’t have a way to win from there
Goad strategies all tend to have the same problem, no outs in a 1v1. I'd suggest putting in a combo for you to be able close out games. Being in Dimir this means Thassa Consultation. I would then adjust the amount of tutors in the deck to the power level you are playing at, if it's casual little to no tutors are necessary so you dont automatically go for the combo every game and get to actually play with your commander's strategy. Higher power levels? Put in all the good black tutors and blue card draw and control the game with your donated stax creatures while you combo out.
@@Malikaye90 my current ways to win are through taking all my big beaters back with Homeward Path, or down in a 1v1 exchanging my few creatures with their board worth for a turn with Reins of Power, also Skithiryx The Blight Dragon for some infect wins in 1v1, plus Corrupted Conscious, both helped with Rogue’s Passage. Additionally I can try to beat them down with creature I have stollen with Tergrid and Gisa. And my way to stay alive is with pillow fort effects like Propaganda, Koskun Falls, Dread, Cunning Rhetoric, Sudden Spoiling, Hellish Rebuke, Evil Eye of Urborg, and Evil Eye of Orms-by-Gore. It’s such a fun deck to pilot, and it brings so many cool interactions to the table, my playgroup absolutely loves the deck
He cast Approach of the Second Sun on his previous turn, it resolved for the first time and got put 7th from the top of his deck. On Max' end step he cast Sphinx' Revelation for X=7, which means he draws 7 cards which includes Approach of the Second Sun. Because a 2nd resolve of Approach says "You win the game", and the other 3 guys had no way to counter it, they know they've lost.
@@Koios90 Thank you for explaining. I got second sun in Narset. I am used to that card only being played when I have drawn my entire deck. I forgot you can actually just cast it without having to draw your entire deck. LOL
I built an Elminster deck myself and it took a completely different direction. Unfortunately I think it's too powerful to play on camera. It's really an unstoppable monster of a deck but oh so much fun to play.
Seems like quite the unfocused deck building on the jon irenicus player's side - what did he really want to achieve? So many counter-acting strategies and cards..

@@carsonperry6443 yeah, you definitely need to include at least some of those as finisher (I hate thoracle lol)
Kindred Discovery, Coastal Piracy and Bident of Thassa are probably what your deck is looking for.
I love seeing nicks enrage deck whenever I see it
This was fun to keep up with thank you for the game!
Elminster is just so damn good.
Yea, he's crazy good. My Elminster deck has a near 100% win rate, the only loss coming from my punt, not the deck's fault!
I built Elminster as a Mass Polymorph deck and it has yet to lose a game.
@@Threadoflengthhow do you protect elminster long enough?
More Jon Irenicus please! I would love more of the bad gift strategy!

Great game, lots of back and forth. I'm sure you're all glad this wasn't played through spelltable!
Why didn't the Gisa die after being blocked by the hydra?
Goad actually stops you from attacking plansewalkers, so Gisa can’t attack elminster. Weird wording on it, but noteworthy

Hey Andrew I’m wanting to build mistform but I would like to know where you got those sleeves from
Those are some sick altered sleeves
You should have gotten the Sakashima since it died while Gisa was on the battlefield under your control

the best win for me, while playing jon is to use homeward path to take back all the goaded creatures and smash the remaining guys.
What sleeves/color is Nick using? I love them
Em Jae getting to steal the homeward path was *chef's kiss* 😙👌
Hey sou the elminester scry ability does help to reduce de cost of XX mana spells ( like that mass manipulation)???
Yes. Cost reduction for X spells is treated as though you paid that much mana
Hello friends, can anyone tell me where Andrew has his sweet sleeves from?
I'm confused guys, can someone explain how the white/blue player won?
He cast Approach of the Second Sun on his previous turn, it resolved for the first time and got put 7th from the top of his deck.
On Max' end step he cast Sphinx' Revelation for X=7, which means he draws 7 cards which includes Approach of the Second Sun.

You ever feel like you bring the wrong deck to a game? 😅
Oh here’s a Phage The Untouchable I will put on your battlefield 😅😁🤣😂🤣😂🥴

What a game
sac mechanics seems counter-productive with Jon Irenicus. I would want those creatures to stick around goaded and attacking my enemies.
Jon Irenicus adds "this creature can't be sacrificed" to the goaded creature.
I built a job deck and it is so fun
wild game :)
em jae had a talisman of progress? well he deserved it to have that countered

That's a long turn 1
While that Elminster deck is very strong it's absolutely no fun watching it.
Why the heck would you donate gisa? Donate a few cards that force them to sac creatures and get yourself a nice little army.
Elminster busted
