Hi Everyone! Thanks again to my buddy Jazza for letting me overtake his channel once again! Please leave your comments and I'd love to answer each and every one of them :)
really interesting, I have always loved comics and drawing like them and have been forever, love the style. Something i have been doing is putting a thick black edge around the sides to exaggerate them, do you recommend that? (ignore the name)
I actually adore how rough he actually began his drawing. I always see myself wanting to add very large details very early on. This helped a lot thanks !
I notice a lot of people who complain about not being able to draw suffer from this. like most people have never heard of a rough sketch and immediately try and fail to do a drawing like in the video.
+TheBoxOfficeArtist Your work is amazing!!!! I made a great choice by subbing to you!! Keep up the stellar work!!! Ps. The hardest part of this for me is always coming up with the pose. Any suggestions on how to create a pose?
Amazing video! I love that not only were you very thorough in explaining each step, but you also have been very active afterwords in the comments figuring out what people liked and what you can improve. Keep up the good work!
I've been trying to create poses on my characters roughly like 5-6 hours because i don't want their bodies look stiff. While watching this video, i was dumbfounded that this method make it more easier to draw. Thank you box office artist, I will subscribe at your channel.
I discovered this video (as well as Jazza and James Raiz) and this is responsible for upping my game in shading and just was an awesome video aid. Thanks both of you, 7 years later and my art continues to improve and thank you guys for getting me back into drawing.
His rough sketches of the hands are amazing! Hands are usually one of the few things that trouble me when drawing (especially on a small scale because of the difficulty in controlling line weight). James is crazy talented and crazy committed (see the Star Wars tribute he is currently working his ass off on for Comic Con)! Mad props!
it's so satisfying reading these productive and positive comments in tutorials rather than ppl fighting about whether biggie was better than tupac or sumthin
His skeleton poses make me soooo uncomfortable, like i dont understand where hes going with them until he puts the meat on the bones and then im like ohhhh shit!
I can’t believe this was posted two years ago, I remember getting the notification and watching it like it was yesterday (these r like my favorite RUclipsrs too)
I hear ya. Maybe try posing in the mirror and see how your muscles twist. Pay attention to the lines, aka perspective. If you are really struggling, maybe try some 2d /3D perspective drawing.
What you need to do, is to gather up a bunch of good bodyrefs that you are curious about.. and then start to do it the other way around. Find the joints, make the skeleton on top of the full form. Reverse engineering is how you figure out a ton of stuff.
I love that I can absorb a little bit of technique each time I watch a video like this. Seeing the rough sketches has been very helpful! I've had to get over the idea of everything looking clean through every stage of the drawing. I'm going to try to push some more dynamic forms in my next session, twist and bend the skeleton.
Haiii, Jazza! You should make a forum on your website, that way people can share their artwork and have it critiqued. It's kind of like Sycra's forum, but I noticed on there everything is more professional and realistic and most of his audience is way different from yours, so it isn't that good a forum for people like me... Hope you like the idea, I think it could really be a great idea but if it's too much work you don't really have to.
It would be cool if their be 3 like subreddits (just the idea of a subreddit) for beginners , good, and profesonals. Im really sry for my english hope you understand what i posted
This is a favorite of mine! It outlines sooOO much that leads leads to a great free style of drawing... for so many other realms of expression!! Thanks James...
James is the most skilled artist I've ever seen in RUclips, and Jazza is the one that has inspired me the most, I'm so glad they're doing things together I hope they collaborate more in the future
All very good, but how do you make the decision for how big/small etc when foreshortening? I realise experience is indispensable, but is there, like, procedure?
Been a fan of this guy since his second ever video. Really a man worth watching, as he have talent for days and is such a kind and humble person. Good job once again, James :)
watching you draw the poses actually made me see lots of things. since im no good with posing. I always stand my characters straight up if I ever Draw them whole. so This Kinda helped alot and will absolutely study more anatomy. :3 this was awesome
I Literally just found TheBoxOfficeArtist like 10 minutes ago, which inspired me to want to draw again, making me come back here (Ive been a loyal draw with jazza viewer for a bit over a year by the way)
Your art ROCKS!!! The way you stretch your characters till it looks like their very last muscle fibers are about to split at the seams is amazing! I've been watching your vids and I'm trying to combine your style with this artist Yoji Shinkawa, the dude that does the metal gear solid art. His art is very fluid yet the muscles he draws have a little edge to them, like the lines are somehow more jagged but yet fluid. If I can get your dynamics with his edgier definition I will be super satisfied. Keep doing your thing man great stuff!!
You have to be pretty familiar with anatomy from the skeleton on to the muscles and finer details in order to take this process through to the finish. Always be working on your life drawing skills (figure drawing). The best advice I've been given throughout my college career is to move from general concepts of what you are drawing/painting to specific. Your knowledge of the subject can carry you through it afterwards.
Im in my Junior year earning my BFA in illustration. This has been a a GREAT block of instruction. Its going hand and hand with my anatomy class! I cant wait to draw some covers pages and panels.... using this new knowledge!
What is the best way to learn comic art? Drawing already created characters, studying anatomy, or designing characters, etc. Awesome video by the way. Love your channel!
Very talented!, after watching this video i realized i want my style to be in a comic style, but more conformed to my personality , thank you for helping me with construction as well!
This has really helped me out a ton. Starting to understand that having a strong fundamental, skeletal piece usually means that the developed piece will be that much better. Perhaps there is hope for me after all :P
Great video, the focus was a little annoying but the tutorial was absolutely fantastic. This video was exactly the type of video that I was looking for. I'm glad you featured this guy because I love his art style. Subbed to him
THANK YOU JAZZA! thanks for introducing us this amazing artist James ! I am amazed ! Thats what i apreciate about you, that you true artist in your heart ! will there be any interview with this guy ? i would love it !
Thank you for the video! I got really into comics and such after deciding to go back to the mmo DC Universe Online. Before the only superhero stuff I liked were Deadpool and My Hero Academia. Afterwards though, I watched Venom, just saw Into the Spiderverse aaaand now I’m hooked. Going to be hitting up the local comic shop after school tomorrow. 🤗 So I figured, might as well learn the basics of drawing the style! 👌
woman figures have different anatomy, but not that far from what he’s doing (with a few tweaks here and there)! i think the basics like the skeleton can still be used in woman figures, hope this helped!
Different styles to make a video, but he, Jazza and Mikeymegamega are my mentors in drawing for years now and I never felt bored or underinformed during a video...
I saw the thumbnail and yeah, thought it was strange Jazza could be so similar to This guy's style xD (I keep forgetting his name). Now I know why, Jazza doesn't go about them inks XD but very nice! More teachings of TheBoxOfficeArtist, why not!
This was my introduction to James Raiz and I have been subscribed ever since. Thanks Jazza. It means A lot that you helped share and introduce other artist on your RUclips channel. This was a collaboration where James always references and credits you for helping to build his community and the Community James has created insist when are we going to see James Collaborate with you in some sort of project. Thanks so much.

+xxmanuu thanks so much!
really interesting, I have always loved comics and drawing like them and have been forever, love the style. Something i have been doing is putting a thick black edge around the sides to exaggerate them, do you recommend that? (ignore the name)
Do you always sketch the entire skeleton or can you skip some of it when you are trained enough because you feel like it takes too much time
thank you very much!
Is it pronounced "gif" or "jif"?
I actually adore how rough he actually began his drawing. I always see myself wanting to add very large details very early on. This helped a lot thanks !
thanks so much!
+Nicholas_ZAL3M hey!
Haydn McChrystal the common mistakes we all do
I notice a lot of people who complain about not being able to draw suffer from this. like most people have never heard of a rough sketch and immediately try and fail to do a drawing like in the video.

I wish i had this mans confidence
That confidence comes from 20 years of experience

Note the finished drawing you can see on my channel :)
Wow thanks. Subbing now. Your content is amazing!
+TomatoPotato Gaming thanks so so much! I appreciate it :)

Hey man is that the host of sourcefed in justice league form in your back? If yes do you have a video of you drawing it?
I've been trying to create poses on my characters roughly like 5-6 hours because i don't want their bodies look stiff. While watching this video, i was dumbfounded that this method make it more easier to draw. Thank you box office artist, I will subscribe at your channel.

My brain: I can do it
My hands: U sure about that bro?
Sunita Naresh heard that already...
Sunita Naresh like a lot....
True
This is so fucking accurate.
Biggest mood
it's so satisfying reading these productive and positive comments in tutorials rather than ppl fighting about whether biggie was better than tupac or sumthin
Esa Artkoski 🤣
He was tho
Roshi F I agree
he starts like some garbage and somehow in few mins turns out it into a finished piece.......
fan of the style
His skeleton poses make me soooo uncomfortable, like i dont understand where hes going with them until he puts the meat on the bones and then im like ohhhh shit!
lol! Glad the meat helped! Thanks for watching!
TheBoxOfficeArtist No problem! I love how it turned out!
+TheBoxOfficeArtist can you please tell me what all pens did you use?

I can’t believe this was posted two years ago, I remember getting the notification and watching it like it was yesterday (these r like my favorite RUclipsrs too)
I can do the skeleton but I can't imagine the form over it.
I hear ya. Maybe try posing in the mirror and see how your muscles twist. Pay attention to the lines, aka perspective. If you are really struggling, maybe try some 2d /3D perspective drawing.
When I was little I traced a whole bunch. I think that really helps to train your brain on how the body should be positioned when posing.
+Ian Greer I totally agree and I did the same when I was young too :)
What you need to do, is to gather up a bunch of good bodyrefs that you are curious about.. and then start to do it the other way around. Find the joints, make the skeleton on top of the full form.
Reverse engineering is how you figure out a ton of stuff.
Start taking life drawing classes or looking for equivalent resources.
I love that I can absorb a little bit of technique each time I watch a video like this. Seeing the rough sketches has been very helpful! This is one of those that I have to wait for a good time to watch
hope it'll be worth the wait :)
+TheBoxOfficeArtist what pencil do you use and what led
+TheBoxOfficeArtist
It definitely was, new subbie for you :)
Making the sounds of the character as you draw aaaaahh childhood memories!
It's always enjoyable to see how other artists work. Much to learn. Thanks.

That's a Great Idea!
would be awesome! newgrounds has an art forum that would work as well
It would be cool if their be 3 like subreddits (just the idea of a subreddit) for beginners , good, and profesonals.

Hell yeah. I'd join.

+Draw with Jazza these are great
Draw with Jazza omg adopt me
All very good, but how do you make the decision for how big/small etc when foreshortening? I realise experience is indispensable, but is there, like, procedure?
2 favorite comic style artists in 1 video
I love traditional art, so much more impressive than all that digital stuff we see these days.
I believe digital art is more complicated while more forgiving.
Been a fan of this guy since his second ever video. Really a man worth watching, as he have talent for days and is such a kind and humble person.
Good job once again, James :)
Thank you buddy for the kind words - you've been a loyal follower for a long time - I really appreciate it - thanks so much :)

you have no idea how helpful this video was...much appreciated
You guys are the most amazing artists I’ve ever seen
This is the first time I’ve ever seen a drawing tutorial full of comments that say this was helpful lol thanks James!

I adore the style and the teaching in this video.
Plus, ITS BLACK PANTHER *cue fangirl face*
Thanks so much, glad you liked it!
Black Panther is my love. ☺️
His rough sketches that take 5 min are already better than my 3 hour drawings that look like a 3 year old drew them.
Well so get better bitch
Then you are a beginner, of course your drawings are bad. You could spent days and it wouldn't be better
Wow this is amazing, it looks so easy when he is doing it :O
Finally someone who knows how to draw in this channel!
i like your drawing style!!!!
Thank you so much!
subbed u are awesome
I know this is from 5 years ago, I have been wanting to learn to draw android type human, this video has given me more perspective on how to do it.
I like big knees and I can not lie😂
You just make it look so easy. I've always wanted to draw a comic book.
