Got to know tonight from my music teacher that Pt. Bhimsen jhoshi Ran away from home to learn music from Ustad Abdul Karim khan sahib after listening to one of his shows near his hometown.....rest is history
This vilampat is a haunting melody! It comes from somewhere distant in the full moon Holi night, whether some one playing or not. Alas! We were born a little too late.
Unfortunately, no long recording of ustad ab. Karim sahb has survived till today, Vilambit and drut rendition of raag basant.. Wahhh❤❤😭 m not from his era, but feeling very fortunate to listen this masterpiece Divine........................... plz remind me this masterpiece whenever you see my comment by liking or replying my comment
One of greatest singers,Who rule over your hearts ," GEM"of india, Master singer of World . उस्तादजींको विनम्र प्रणाम और आप सभी रसिक audience को भी प्रणाम
It was said about Ustad Abdul Karim Khan that "Whatever he sang was music." When Aftab-e-Mausiki Ustad Faiaz Khan learned about Ustad Abdul Karim Khan Sahab Khan's death, he said, "Today music left India." It was also said that that Sri Sai Baba of Sirdi was very fond of Ustad Sahab's song.

Probably Karim Khan Sahib is one of the Godfather of Hindustani Classical. His immortal voice is still available to us, itself is miracle. Thanks RUclips & Record Co. & the classical lovers who dig out this jewel.
Amrit Patel Khan sahib was a genius. But you should not forget the one and only Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar who is called as father of modern classical music during the age when recording started and he was the person who spread the classical music among the masses. He was senior to Ustad Khan Sahib. Unfortunately no record of him is available. However we are fortunate to hear his great son Pt. D.V.Paluskar and disciples like Pt. Vyas, Pt. Patawardhan, Pt. Omkarnath Thakur.
One and only Khansahib as was he known, spent lot of years in Karnataka esp North, where till this day it is Hindustani which has captivated the masses! All prominent shisyas come from here.Sawai Gandharwaji.Bhimsen joshiji,Gangubai Hangal to name a few
Faint memories just before the TV revolution (early 90s maybe) ... When radio or TV (only doordashan) would play such songs ... Entire locality would seem to be playing it wherever you go ... Surreal environment ... Was too young to realize the meaning of such ephimeral circumstances ... Miss it

I wonder why is there no movie on this musical legend; his personal and musical life both are very interesting. It will offer a good opportunity to depict those inspiring times.
Sharadji is there anyone singer in this world who can give this legendary character a playback voice? We are very unfortunate that Pt Bhimsen Joshi is no more. He would have surely done justice to it.
Excellent sound recording technique - the blend is so smooth one can’t even hear when one record ends and the other begins. Thanks also to RUclips for providing the platform for younger listeners to get a taste of what music was really like in India back in the days.

May be Karim Khan saheb's work is available easily or hardly but Vinay's work is really unique. May Lord Christ bless you with long life and good health and you keep bringing such great works in these forms. And this is true that there are very less people who can share the plight of music with Karim Khan saheb.
I am not fortunate to hear such golden voices live. But we had a gramophone and many 78 rpm discs. My maternal uncle was a fan of Khansaheb. He used to close his eyes and literally while listening to maestro's records in our house.
@sabtak1000 thank you, but these recordings are not really rare. They are always available on LPs, CDs or cassettes, and in the internet. What I have done is to join them in a single track so that they sound like a continuous performance - which it really isn't . An experiment if you like.
I have a few and they all were released on 12 inch records; I have many classics. I always play my records everyday on a 1911 Columbia Grafonola Gramophone. I am glad that you respect great music.
as critiques said whatever he sang is music, after Ustaad's death Faiyaj Khan Sahib commented Aj Hindusthanme sur mar gaya, what more common public like me can say, we are lucky to have some good recording of Malika e moushiki Roshan Ara Begam's singing to give us some glimpse of Ustaadji's singing
Vilambit was so much faster than it is today, even for the ultra slow Kirana! You can actually sense the rhythm. This is like deema tempo, I wish artists would adopt this style of presentation in modern times
I have a hunch that after Ustad Amir Khan, everybody thought singing 2 mph would be a good idea, for the “spiritual” content of the music- Mind you I personally am a die hard fan of amir khan
Kasur patiala I think still has faster and more progressing vilambit Chalan. I can be wrong though. Also isn't jaipur gharana the slowest and focus more on madhyalay and vilambit portions. This is pure gold. But personally for me too slow, devoid of ornamentation , absolutely plain vilambit presentation becomes a bit underwhelming, maybe cause of age or so. I like this version so much better.
@@akakirde9452 the amount of extra focus by some Rasikas, purists even musicians give on the spiritual aspect of music even in the case of drut sometimes even at the cost of good technical capabilities and riyaz ( like taan basic lelo ,dont hit surr perfectly , voice projection can be weird its okay but raag should be serene) is too much and unidimensional. The idea that spirituality has to resemble slowness only and is not actually subjective aspect of music is so daft .
@Soulintune77 I personally think this focus on spirituality is just a cover up for lack of imagination and poor technical presentation On a side note, I personally very much like the jaipur gayaki especially as presented by mansur, kesarbai kerkar, mogubai and manjiritai asnare - however, as kumarprasad mukherjee pointed out, the focus is not on alaap but structured badhat and taans - for the jaipur atrauli kolhapur gharana, the focus on vilambit is meant to display a certain type of refinedness and virtuosity - not for spiritual purposes
