PLEASE NOTE: that "crackling" some people are pointing out is an effect, like a bit crusher effect. It was done on purpose to show how the location of your touch effects the sound. You can apply any control parameter you want to each axis of the touch screen. This instrument is not limited to one type of effect. I personally like the sound, but it is subjective like all music is.

11 years have passed, so there is definitely an alternate reality somewhere where this guitar is being treated like how people treat smartphones, and if they see someone walking with a traditional guitar, they'll ask that person why he is walking with a keypad guitar

A lot of you guys need to understand this is not trying to replace the guitar. I'm sure there are other presets and such for this instrument, but as far as this one goes, it seems to be going for a more bit crushed 8 or 16 bit kind of sound. It has its own purpose separate from a normal electric or acoustic guitar. I could even use electric and acoustic guitars as examples of how there can be different types of guitars for different purposes, and your favorite will not vanish from the face of the earth.

Wow, in all my days and years on earth, I would never have once imagine and/or envisioned a digital guitar, or a variation of an electrical guitar.
This instrument or something simmilar has been used for the bassline of the song "Madness" by Muse in 2012! For those who don't know who they are they were basically really popular in the 2000's and the 2010's. The song "Survival" that is in the same album as "Madness" is the official 2012 Olympic games theme.

So much hate in comments. Who said it should replace actual guitars? Invention of electric instruments didn't make acoustic instruments extinct. Electric guitars didn't replace actual guitars. Later, synthesizers didn't replace actual orchestras or even actual pianos. And all the crazy hybrids like keytars, electronic guitars, electric drums and even just straight crazy instruments like theremin vox coexist and used to produce their own sound.
This digital thing is not a guitar, it just utilizes guitar shape and some of its solutions, but it sounds differently and it's played differently. Is it so bad that it's different? Just let it be.

I think the boys from Muse used one of these for playing Madness live.
Muse uses a kaoss pad mounted in a real guitar with midi output. See the Manson MB-1.

6. the mic quality on this video is only so good
7. the synth used in this example is a guitar sample with intentionally crushed quality, designed to have low bitrate
8. you could just as easily load in the sound of an actual, clean guitar string, refer to #5
9. this will not replace guitars, refer to #2
10. music is music and sound is sound, no matter what's making it - and clearly it's not fake if you can hear it
11. 'guitar music' isn't being killed by this or any music similar to what's being played on it
12. this device isn't taking away from anyone else
13. this is not a stringed instrument and shouldn't be compared to one except in shape, see # 1-3

i think people need to put this in their minds, they're complaining and comparing a MIDI controller and a guitar, what people are REALLY pissed off about is the fact that it looks like a guitar, if it was a different shape, people would say "oh this looks great for me practicing some electro music" and awesome guitarists will be like "i play guitar, this obviously isn't in my realm of music" but because it is mistaken to be a guitar, guitarists are now getting butthurt because it's not a real one and believes that this will replace real guitars in the future, if you believe that then you're obviously more dense and narrow-minded then you look, need to expand your minds a bit and accept some changes and new ideas in your life times, jesus, its 2014, and you're already complaining about technology

The reason I dislike it is because there are going to be idiots who play this and then act like they can play a real guitar. Also, there's no need for what is essentially a dumbed down version of a real guitar with a MIDI controller built into it.

The actual guitar will never be replaced by this. The reason many play guitar is for the emotion and soul you can bring over, you won't be able to do this with this thingy. For all those people who want to bring the emotion and soul with their guitar music, they will always stick to the best instrument in the world - the guitar -.

You still have to know finger positions to make chords and be able to tap or strum in beat. Great way to expand your already obtained knowledge of playing a guitar.

You still have to know how to play real drums in order to play an electric kit, just like you would have to know how to play guitar and make chords to play this guitar. Did you even watch the video and see his hands? Do you know what playing a guitar even looks like? lol Since you missed the point as well....this is a midi controller that is strummed, tapped, and fingered like a real guitar. This isnt a device for people who cant play guitar any more than an electric drum kit is a device for people who cant play drums.

+CSClark272 I'm sorry but you can't compare an electric drum kit to this. The comparison to an electric drum kit would be a regular old electric guitar.
Yes, this thing involves chords and fingering that you would find on a regular guitar, but that's about it. You say this is "strummed, tapped and fingered like a real guitar" but its not. Guitar strumming is absolutely nothing like this. There is absolutely no way anyone could 'learn' to play a song on this and then play it the same way on an actual guitar. This is just a midi controller with the added bonus of using actual chord positions on the fretboard.
TLDR; The only similarity between this and real guitar playing is the chords/fingerings, and there's no need to buy something this expensive to learn those anyway.
This is its own fun little music making device sure, but it can't be compared to a guitar.
