- Humble, reticent and strong as a bull, Alex Honnold is a crack climbing machine. Check out this video of Honnold crushing it in world-famous Indian Creek, Utah on everything from 5.13 footless tip-jam campusing to inverted offwidthing. Filmed by Mike Call.
One of the songs by www.last.fm/mus...
This deserves higher quality than 240p.
"I wouldn't call myself an off-width climber... but I just did the hardest off-width at the creek!" - Honnold
(And Indian Creek has one of the largest concentrations of hard crack climbs in the world)
Oh man, to climb like Alex Honnold
Holy shit when he got stuck and had to fall, that must be terrifying falling upside down.
Finally some one appreciates what us spiders go through every day.
No need for the video editing and skipping frames... his climbing is poetry in motion.
Such a high quality video. Well paced, well shot, well edited, excellent music. Respect! I would love to see feature length films from this production team.
1:50 that scared the shit out of me. Didn't see the rope and thought he was free soloing..
I do not blame you, once I started watching his videos that in the first I look for is he wearing a rope or not.
If you see Trad gear on their belt its a good chance they're roped in.
Such a laid back and humble dude
This guy, hands down, is the best free soloist in the world. Absolutely awesome!
wow I didn't even saw that he had a rope... I'm like wtf is he doing! climbing upside down
***** yeah I know.. but I thought he is without rope, thinking: "shit, he dies" for a second ^^
No problem :-)
Honnold is an awesome climber! This guy has skills ^^
I'm thinking about starting to boulder myself now... not like him though xD
Yeah he is super cool :D
Vagabund92 same 😂 then he fell and I freaked
it is very common in offwidths. legs first is often waaaaaaaaaaaay easier
lol Honnold x Biggie is a weird combination, but i'll always prefer hiphop in climbing videos over bad electronica. those foot/leg jams were nuts!
and WHO does this remix i dig it
Amazing Alex need more vid. Much respect.
I just finished watching the 60 mins special about him free soloing
and thought this was another video with him still soloing. My fu(k3n
heart is beating so fast right now.
If there is one person I wanna see get old, has to be Alex.. :P awesome
my palms are soaking watching this kid
I think this is how geniuses are, humble and quiet yet extraordinary in their skills..The famous nat geo photographer Jimmy Chan has rated Alex as the best climber he has ever seen..for a man who is photgraphing outstanding climbers for more than 10 years, that is quite a statement of weight and credibility.
@lukemich12 There are different types of climbing. They didn't say he -never- uses ropes. Free soloing is when you don't use ropes, but they said on the show that he will climb a route with ropes to get the feel for it before he free solos.
This kid is a marvel. His June 2017 free solo of El Cap's Freerider route is arguably the greatest athletic achievement in human history. That may sound like an overstatement, but consider that he is the only human to complete it, likely the only human to SERIOUSLY consider it. Factor in the incredible risk of death, and you have a stunning accomplishment. The fact that Alex is an avowed atheist only makes me like him more. He faces his mortality with no need to believe in nonsense.
awesome guy, why worry if hes enjoying doing it, its dangerous but at his own risk... he gets a buzz from completing the climb this vid is a bonus and a great record of his incredible skillls.
Big up to the cameramen on this too brilliant .
best in the world hands down
@philosophiliac
Might be kinda hard to explain but I'll try. The crack is a width that you cant just jam one hand, you have to stack your hands to make them wide enough to jam, but narrow enough to jam a foot. But it overhangs. So if your weight was on your feet below, and you tried to slide your stacked hands up, you would fall out backwards. feet high allows him to jam his feet, weight them, then slide his stacked hands up without falling out.
This is the first time ive seen footage of him tied into anything haha crazy guy
alex, i just got back from seeing 'alone on the wall'. you rock buddy!
Why 17 dislikes? I liked and added it to my favorites. Great video.
From what I understand he usually climbs a route with rope a few times to figure out a route that goes all the way from top to bottom. Imagine having no rope and getting half way up and that's it - no more cracks or places to hold.
I like how he smiles as he gets stuck and at the end when he says "my legs hurt"
Such a big inspiration for me.
I was just thinking, "Imagine he got stuck upside down like that" ...AND THEN...
Same here. I know that he uses a rope every time before he tries to free climb something but this is the first time I've seen him fall or anything like that.
If you guys don't know Alex will often do a climb more than once with ropes before he Free solo's it...
Alex is a stud. Plain and simple.
He climbs upside down due to the width of the crack and the angle of the incline. Because of the way a human body is built, once the crack your climbing becomes too wide and the incline too steep, you have no other choice than to change up the norm. Yes it may seem bizarre, but it is 100% necessary.
4.0 is scrambling where ropes aren't necessarily needed, but a fall could kill.
5.0 is where roped climbing starts, highly technical. 5th scale climbing is rated from 5.0 - 5.14 or so. The higher the number, the harder it is. It is not a decimal system, therefore, 5.12 > 5.2.
big fan of the soundtrack
i have never seen such big friends
dope music
holy shit my heart stopped when he fell, didn´t know he had ropes
Best free soloist.
wow,, alex honnold climbing with protection! this is rare....
"not sure if stupid or just trolling" would be the correct reaction;)
@XXDoctorKnowXX the crazy thing is that it might have been Alex Honnold himself! He free solo'd half dome (no ropes, gear) in 2h15m in 2008.
the sweat from my palms could hydrate me
damn it. I want this link to this fantastic music piece "kick in the door remix" - I cannot find it.
I thought he was free soloing and I nearly lost it when he fell
Holy shit Alex Honnold FELL!!
What "Kick in the door" remix is that!
this is a great route cheers to this mate! tech.
thats why you need a bag of climbing chalk by your computer
He uses ropes 90 percent of the time, just all his most popular climbs are his free solos
Did you ever get the chance to upload? I've been looking for this version for years!
“Minimum technique you need..just putting your fingers in and turning them...” is that so Mr. Honnold. Why I outta be sending 5.13 and greater naked and blind folded.
you're the man...
No shame in falling on a 5.13 route. Especially on the first attempt.
gotta see some footage of him soloing moonlight buttress! wow
The biggie song is "kick in the door" mixed with this:
Hint- Air to Sky. Dunno who mixed it though, or where to get it?
After spending way to much time I found the second song with the didgeridoo. Free the Weed by Cooper Roberts. fm.to/?artist=Cooper-Roberts&track=Free-the-Weed
@2:00 "Oh my god. I never wanna try that again. I can't conceivably try harder than that."
@4:40 Does it again,
Nice back!
Alex the Beast Master!
Good job! You climb in Sacramento? I live in Sac and I am not too sure of any climbing roots. I know Tahoe has some great roots.
This is mind-shocking.
@oldaardvark im pretty sure he just did that... 5.12 i think in yosemite
Alex Honnold is the balls.
please could you upload it again with worse quality?
it was published in 2009 einstein.
I love the music on here, whats the second song?
If you can do that crack upside down, it would also be possible to do it the right way up? Is he just doing it that way for kicks/props/a challenge?
Amazing. :)
@codykillswitch I agree I was wondering what the name of that song was. Did you figure it out??? That song is sweet.
holy mamachichi! he looks and sounds like justin long. lulz. what a badass climber.
But what’s that notorious big remix
1:21 are you fucking serious.............. 0 fucks given at this point. Alex you are a beast
Bad ass route!
SICK
What is the white powder that the climbers use called and what does it do for them.
Chalk used for better stiffness and to remove the sweat from the hands would be my guess.
And also because the rock is sometimes wet.
What's the name of the track by from round about 2:50?
Thanks alot!
Awesome video anyway! :-)
dear god that looked painful!
I don't think I've ever seen a person do a two foot bat hook in a crack.
9 people watch RUclips all day wishing they had friends.
waooo. he is awesome he climbed without of helmet
this guy is nuts....
what is the song at 3 min in? makes me so stoked
1:05 HOW?!? WHAT?!?? .... I know why... 😄
Well he certainly doesn't have to worry about zombies getting him...
@lives2live Fair enough, that makes sense. I've never done it, but I'll take your word that it's the easiest way to climb a crack that way :P counter-intuitive as it seems.
like him even more cause there playing biggie RIP
its called "kick in the door" the version on this video is some remix. the original is better i think
What's the track that starts at 2:15?? Love it!
same question :D
hint: always watch the credits
same here
UTAH!!! WOO HOO!
is it not enough to climb without a rope, you have to climb upside down too?
Does anyone know the song starting at 2:30? No, it's not a "kick in the door" remix...
I don't know but if you find out you should tell me :)
Possibly Katie Brown, another prolific climber in her own right. They did a Citi bank credit card commercial together in which they were referenced as boyfriend and girlfriend although not sure if this translates to real-life. I'm trying to figure out if he has a girlfriend. If you ask me though, my hunch is that they are an item. In recent interviews, he's claimed that he's no longer doing solos anymore, and I think his girlfriend has something to do with convincing him to scale back.
sick son
those words are the names of the routes
4:38 Batmanning like a boss
Anyone know the version of kick the door in which was used in this video?
wow upside down, backwards and with one hand :o
@GermanicPrussian well when the rap comes in.. it's Biggie aKa Notorious BIG.... but the track behind it is some weird remix of it.. i prefer the original....
Second Song!

Thanks man i searched that for 3 years! All I could find were the 2 different songs on its own.
I fucking love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What’s that song? Is they notorious BIG?
