  • Humble, reticent and strong as a bull, Alex Honnold is a crack climbing machine. Check out this video of Honnold crushing it in world-famous Indian Creek, Utah on everything from 5.13 footless tip-jam campusing to inverted offwidthing. Filmed by Mike Call.

    "I wouldn't call myself an off-width climber... but I just did the hardest off-width at the creek!" - Honnold
    (And Indian Creek has one of the largest concentrations of hard crack climbs in the world)
    Oh man, to climb like Alex Honnold

    I think this is how geniuses are, humble and quiet yet extraordinary in their skills..The famous nat geo photographer Jimmy Chan has rated Alex as the best climber he has ever seen..for a man who is photgraphing outstanding climbers for more than 10 years, that is quite a statement of weight and credibility.

  • @Complex2k6
    @Complex2k6 13 лет назад +1

    @lukemich12 There are different types of climbing. They didn't say he -never- uses ropes. Free soloing is when you don't use ropes, but they said on the show that he will climb a route with ropes to get the feel for it before he free solos.

  • @elmoblatch9787

    This kid is a marvel. His June 2017 free solo of El Cap's Freerider route is arguably the greatest athletic achievement in human history. That may sound like an overstatement, but consider that he is the only human to complete it, likely the only human to SERIOUSLY consider it. Factor in the incredible risk of death, and you have a stunning accomplishment. The fact that Alex is an avowed atheist only makes me like him more. He faces his mortality with no need to believe in nonsense.

  • @silverstarshine2003

    awesome guy, why worry if hes enjoying doing it, its dangerous but at his own risk... he gets a buzz from completing the climb this vid is a bonus and a great record of his incredible skillls.
    Big up to the cameramen on this too brilliant .

    Might be kinda hard to explain but I'll try. The crack is a width that you cant just jam one hand, you have to stack your hands to make them wide enough to jam, but narrow enough to jam a foot. But it overhangs. So if your weight was on your feet below, and you tried to slide your stacked hands up, you would fall out backwards. feet high allows him to jam his feet, weight them, then slide his stacked hands up without falling out.

    From what I understand he usually climbs a route with rope a few times to figure out a route that goes all the way from top to bottom. Imagine having no rope and getting half way up and that's it - no more cracks or places to hold.

  • @jwburgardt09
    @jwburgardt09 12 лет назад

    He climbs upside down due to the width of the crack and the angle of the incline. Because of the way a human body is built, once the crack your climbing becomes too wide and the incline too steep, you have no other choice than to change up the norm. Yes it may seem bizarre, but it is 100% necessary.

  • @Strelnikov10
    @Strelnikov10 12 лет назад

    4.0 is scrambling where ropes aren't necessarily needed, but a fall could kill.
    5.0 is where roped climbing starts, highly technical. 5th scale climbing is rated from 5.0 - 5.14 or so. The higher the number, the harder it is. It is not a decimal system, therefore, 5.12 > 5.2.

    Possibly Katie Brown, another prolific climber in her own right. They did a Citi bank credit card commercial together in which they were referenced as boyfriend and girlfriend although not sure if this translates to real-life. I'm trying to figure out if he has a girlfriend. If you ask me though, my hunch is that they are an item. In recent interviews, he's claimed that he's no longer doing solos anymore, and I think his girlfriend has something to do with convincing him to scale back.
