ONE OF THE WORST HIKING EXPERIENCES I'VE HAD

I expected a hard hike but I severely underestimated this one. I don't know if my watch wasn't tracking properly but instead of the 6.7 mile hike I expected, I tracked it to be around 9.5 miles. Now a few extra miles isn't the end of the world, but the hike is straight up a mountain. I was carrying a 40lb pack (which was my fault) but it was the most painful experience I have endured while hiking. It was over a 1000 feet of elevation gain per mile and even when I was hiking at night my shirt was drenched in sweat. The path is steep for a majority of the trail, even if you are packing light it's still a workout. The biggest downsides though was the mosquitos at the top. There were clouds of them. Within the first 10 minutes of waking up and stepping outside, my arms had been eaten alive. No amount of bug spray kept them away. The views were nice, but the bugs were unbearable. I walked around for only an hour at the top before I needed to get off the mountain.
I would not recommend this hike to any beginner or intermediate hiker. This was so difficult I don't think you can get any enjoyment from the journey and the destination is only made worse by the insane about of mosquitos that swarm you.
I didn't even make a whole video explaining all the negatives because I kept getting attacked by bugs. Sorry if the video seems short and disjointed. I just wanted to make a video and get out of there.

I did this hike once, it was indeed grueling. I remember enjoying the sketchy rope section 🤠 & walking through a huge patch of thimble berries before the marshy area. Enjoyed hearing about your experience!

Man, coming back down with a heavy pack and no trekking poles was sketchy as hell. All that loose dirt right next to the drop-off. I definitely thought I was a gonner😂
