Trump was the sleazebag narcissist who lovebombed a woman young enough to be his daughter (he wished she was) and used her to cheat on wife #2, whom he had used to cheat on wife #1. He promised her the world and married her, got her pregnant with a hostage child, whom he used to keep her in line, then immediately, or sooner, cheated on her twice that is known of, but likely more. His behaviour around women is public knowledge.
Then he decided to push the trump brand, so he swapped from democrat to republican and smarmed up to the evangelical moneybags with the promise that he’d obliterate RvW, their pet project, and he ran for president.
I rather think he wasn’t actually expecting to win. To me, he looked stunned as he came down the golden escalator. He certainly had made no preparation in anticipation of winning, unlike the President who was able to hit the ground running with a full staff of competent advisers and immediately start work. Donnie on the other hand, once he’d done Roe in, installed a $10,000 virtual golf game in the White House to occupy himself with when he couldn’t get to one of his courses.
Melania was obviously not on board with the First Lady gig. As I said, trump wasn’t really expecting to win, so the prospect of her being flotus was overlooked. She was just his wife, his property and she go and do whatever he decreed.
The thing with presidents is you’re not just electing a president, you’re electing a team because his wife has quite a hefty, if unpaid, position as part of the administration. This had not been run past Melania and so she stalled as long as she could. Why wouldn’t she? She presumably knew she would not be viewed favourably by the citizens no matter what she did and this was not the life she had been promised, or wanted. She probably had the idea that her life should be run the way she wanted, and flotus was just too big a chunk out of it. Especially now that trump was moving on other women and treating her with contempt. The marriage was ending

It's all about whether Biden can convince enough people in swing states to vote for him.
