Nuno is the guitarist that all guitar players know and love, and all non-guitar players need more exposure to. Easily one of the most underappreciated musicians of the last 40 years. For other song suggestions that I think you'd appreciate from their prime, Get the Funk Out has to be #1. Shows you their more hybrid style, and has another killer Nuno solo.
Hilarious...everyone noticing these guys now. Gary is a GREAT vocalist. He fronted Van Halen for christ's sake!! He sang on a number one song. He slayed the Wembley audience at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert. This song is a great return...but these guys never left imo. One of the great rock and roll bands of the past 40 years.
This track is all about Nasty Nuno’s solo, it has been blowing up the internet because it is NEXT LEVEL!, he has taken the baton from Eddie Van Halen and gone Usain Bolt on this one. Yes the track is formulaic but the solo is FIRE, also don’t get it twisted Gary can still saaaaang!
Agree. Nuno is the guitarists guitarist- an absolute beast! That solo is complex, unorthodox, innovative shredding - while also tipping his hat to Eddie Van Halen. Check out ‘He-man Woman hater’ and ‘Get the Funk out’ for guitar master classes
I know it’s difficult sometimes but I have a hunch, this reaction may have been prejudiced by the first impression of the video. Brutally honest reaction though which I respect, but wrong imho lol. The guys have a good ear though based on their AIC reactions.
@@Aerofan2020 just old guys trying the same sound and just embarrassing that it hasn't evolved to anything good really. And I am not talking about the guitar solo. That is the only reason this should still exist in a song form. Didn't like production really at all either. A very meh performance.
I have to agree with a lot people that their second album (Pornografitti) is a masterpiece... however, their 3rd album... THEIR THIRD ALBUM!!! OMG, that's an ode to music production, composition, arrangements, etc. That is truly a masterpiece. The album (III Sides to Every Story) is divided in 3 parts and the 3 part is just... I don't know, I don't have words to describe it.
Nuno composed the music for the orchestra....and he can't read or write music. He did it on piano and guitar. He was heavily involved in the production. The album was their vision and man was it epic!!!
Yeah, they are just haters on what is a great comeback album by Extreme. Nuno is a guitar god, but Gary shows on this album that he does still have it.
I’ve been trying to get a reaction to Cupids Dead or Get the Funk Out for years. This is a bad first listen to highlight the band’s talent. One of the MOST underrated bands.
I agree, this was not a good song for them to react to for the first time. I love Extreme but if I’m being honest, I do not like this song and while the solo is amazing technically it doesn’t do much for me musically. I have long since stoped saying any given song “sucks” etc. Rather, I will just say “I don’t like it “. Production is good and everyone is playing/singing good/amazing but the melody of the verse and chorus just don’t speak to me. I don’t really like the main riff either. Another vote for Get the Funk Out.
Y'all were WRONG on this one! This is an amazing comeback for Extreme who produced two of the best 90s rock records - Pornograffitti and III sides to every story - their concept album and creative masterpiece. Nuno is virtuosic and influenced a generation of guitar players with his sound, tone, technique and charisma. Gary's voice can be marmite but he is a great studio singer.
Nuno has been Rihanna's guitarist since 2010, was also on the Super Bowl stage with her. It should be noted he is one of the most respected guitarists in the industry, extremely well known to his peers as one of the best. He comes from the Eddie Van Halen school of playing, and has dedicated this album much to Eddie since his passing 2020.

Their second album is just amazing with a wide range of songs from “Get the Funk Out” to “When I first kissed you” to “Hole hearted”. The third album was really good. And Nuno is Nuno
Nah it really wasn't a masterpiece. I used to think Porno was a great album, I listen to it now and it sounds dated. Well played but dated. Many of the songs don't hold up IMO. I don't think it aged well. I think Three Sides and Waiting for the Punchline actually aged better. Extreme had their time 30 years ago. Sometimes it's better to leave things alone. This new song blows.
Plus it has been covered quite a bit on all the singing comps like The Voice , American Idol and others . And also someone else super popular that my daughter listens to covered it some 5-6 years ago...I cant remember who, I just remember playing her the original. A quick google search found a list with over 85 recorded instances that it was covered which even surprised me.

I was waiting for it haha. You guys dumping on the song and I’m like ‘Yeah, wait till you hear Nuno’s solo’ 🤣🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏🙌🎸. The dude is a legend. Check out ‘Get The Funk Out’ next. They were big in the early nineties. Their album ‘Pornograffitti’ is amazing. One of my personal favourites
Guys, just make a reaction video about Extreme set at the Freddie Mercury Tribute 1992 at Wembley. ;) There's plenty incredible songs to react to: the totallity of their 3 first albums !! And, Nuno is a legend. Fun fact, he played for Rihanna on tour just for fun and killed it!
I think he is a good singer, except I’ve always found it a little boring. I felt that when he was with Van Halen too. Good, but something is missing that would send into the stratosphere.
@@billwong553 I have always thought Extreme were made up of 4 incredibly talented musicians, but when they put it together, something just isn't there. They have some great songs, but I just can't get through an entire album. I feel like I could take all of my favorite songs from each album and make one album I enjoy. It's just weird because Nuno is such an incredible talent, and Gary can sing and he is a great front man. It just never really did it for me.
What a breath of fresh air in a crowded world of mediocre to plain trash talent..............All of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s, this SOLO means a lot to us....Its the comeback weve been waiting for... This really just sets the bar back where it should be........Rock once again proves its KING.....and thank god for that....Everybody else just copies and borrows from it anyways.... NUNO is our EVH.........The man the myth and now a LEGEND!!
If and when you decide to give this band a second chance, I have one and only one recommendation. "Get the Funk Out" is, IMO, Extreme's best song with another RIPPING guitar solo from the criminally underrated Nuno Bettencourt. It is also a perfect example of the "funk rock/metal" side of Extreme's style. If you listen to that and you hate it, then this band just isn't for you. Which is fine. The fact that you guys sometimes don't like songs is why this is one of my favorite reaction channels. You don't pander to your audience like MANY other reactors do. When you don't like something that I love, I'm not offended, I'm grateful for the honesty.
I agree with this as well. If someone doesn’t like get the funk out, then they don’t like Extreme and there’s nothing wrong with that. I just don’t think this was the best song for them to react to first. Get the funk out would’ve been a much better choice in my opinion. I also like that they don’t sugarcoat their reactions. Ryan and George like what they like and tell us when they don’t like it. that’s refreshing.
@@Unicornslaughter Definitely was the WORST introduction to Extreme for sure. And I do also appreciate that they're honest about what they like and don't.

I’m 49 and while I love the music, the guitar and bass mesh well especially during the chorus and guitar solo, but I didn’t like Gary’s vocals here either.
@@NotSureIdiocracy Yeah, his voice isn't as strong as it once was but I also think it's the vocal melody he wrote for this. The verses are really boring, vocally. Gary doesn't really do much in the way of anything interesting. Musically, I like it somewhat but "Rebel" is much better of a song as you can hear the effort put it to make it kick ass on all fronts. The music AND vocals are strong in that song. This song was all about Nuno's solo, pretty much nothing else. I will admit, though, that the chorus is catchy.
Gosh! I still like Gary's voice. He actually hasn't changed his voice. He has been involved in several projects such as amazing journey with Gilbert, Portnoy and Sheehan. Completely disagree about you said, his style is just different but his vocal range and technique such as falsetto are still on the top. Just check the tribute of them to Freddie's Mercury tribute. They were the best performance!❤
Yes, his voice sounded like vintage Gary, he hit all the notes in key. There was a certain amount of people that didn't like his voice or style even back in his prime, I loved it then and now. A lot of his voice relies more on timing, and he almost makes his voice more of a musical instrument than a vocal instrument. I think he still sounds amazing, and you can tell he takes great care of himself.
Extreme's first album was released in 1989, in 1991 they had a #1 hit with More than Words, in the late 90's vocalist Gary Cherone fronted Van Halen and recorded VH3 which came out in 1998 I believe, Extreme are an amazing band, Nuno is a guitar wizard that nobody denies !!
Gary Cherone is 63 years old, hes allowed to sound like an old man, he can buy senior coffees at McDonalds. Having said that, I think he sounds decent on here, Nuno is a beast, he even tours and records with Rhianna because he can play anything
That is pure Gary. No autotune, no studio tricks. They record clean. Nuno built a sweet isolation box for vocals un his home studio and it paid off. As an Extreme fan from 1989, I'd rather hear 1000% Gary than autotune. And he is amazing live, just like the rest of the band. Extreme has always been a live band.
I usually agree a lot with you but I love this song. Gary's voice is unique and I love it. Everyone has different style. Nuno is also the guitarist in rhiannas band
When Rihanna needed a touring guitar player a few years ago, the player that she hired with her infinite "Rihanna money" was Nuno Bettencourt! You see why now.
This reaction went exactly as I expected when I heard you guys didn't know who Extreme was. Here's the thing - they are back, but they are not going to pickup any new fans. Nuno is a top guitarist of the 80s and still has what he did then. He's one of few guitarists that can actually make a full song into a long solo (Decadence Dance comes to mind). Extreme is a victim of bad timing. There simply wasn't much room left for 80's/hair metal when they broke and there still isn't with the evolution of rock when they have a style that's now dated and hasn't aged well. The other guys are good and accent well, but it's always been Nuno. Most people focus on the singer first in a band, and Gary's always had pipes. Nobody can escape age, but I've never thought much of his lyrics and he doesn't have the charisma and presence of say... David Lee Roth being in a band also carried by their guitarist. So, if you were never an Extreme fan, you won't become one in 2023. If you were, there's a fairly good chance you played guitar. I was(am), and I did. I didn't hear Cherone first - it was all Nuno for me, and it still is. If you listen to any other Extreme, you need to approach it with hearing the guitar first and if you can do that, you won't be disappointed.
Gary was a very charismatic frontman. They didn't come more energetic. I liked his pipes, too. Comparing him to DLR is unfair. Dave was a top five, all-time. Extreme didn't sound like other bands, and I agree that they were victims of bad timing and probably bad marketing.
Yup, totally agree. It is all Nuno. And bad timing. But, their ballads made them popular and Nuno guitar work made him a force in the guitar world. Especially post Extreme ( Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee comes to mind). But, as a retired guitarist, your opinion resonates with me.
What’s funny about Gary’s voice is that it’s never really changed. It’s always been either loved or hated. I truly feel like he’s crushing it. The whole band is nothing but fire. *EDIT* We don’t have to always agree on musical tastes. That’s the best part about being music lovers. There’s so much we can share & love alike. Being individuals makes us unique and gives us our own perspective, thoughts and emotions to connect or disengage with each song or artist. I’ve been watching Lost in Vegas almost since the start & have nothing but love and respect for their views as well. ✌️
Many believe that after Eddie passed Nuno became THE man for cutting edge guitar. Check out the song Play With Me off of the Bill and Ted soundtrack, Absolutely amazing. And not the only example of their talent. It's too bad this wasn't your groove but hey, that's why we are individuals.
Watch them playing the Queen medley at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. Make sure you hear Brian Mays intro and you'll hear how good he thinks they are.
Yes, only ignorance could lead to a content like this reaction video. No one has to like, but one should know about the subject. Their words reveal a grotesque ignorance of rock music as a whole.
This is a great "comeback" song by Extreme. My favorite band out of the 90s, if you don't know Extreme and their incredible catalogue of music, then you won't be able to speak authoritatively about this song. I'm looking forward to other tracks on their album. As for Nuno, I'll just say that I've always been amazed at how often he does NOT appear on lists of top guitarists of all time. His work is exceptional. Unfortunately, Extreme got lost in the shuffle of the 90s grunge era. Anyone who thinks this song is "formulaic" needs their head examined. The lyrics are phenomenal, speaking about the fleetingness of fame. They have always had great lyrics.
Yeah, that guitar solo has rocked the guitar community. Nuno is the man everyone has been watching for years. Listen to the early stuff like "More Than Words", "Get the Funk Out" (love the horn section in this song), "Hole Hearted" ( nice 12 string work) , and "Rest in Peace". Just to name a few.
Oh man you're killing me with this reaction. Extreme is one of those bands wh can literally play anything, any genre, but they don't get the broad recognition that other bands get. Gary can sing his ass off, Nuno's guitar solo on Get the Funk Out is one of Brian May's favorite solos ever and Pat and Kevin lay down a phenomenal rhythm section. They are so good live. I get this isn't the best rock song ever, but it's a solid banger with a phenomenal solo. But every solo Nuno does is phenomenal.
I also didn't like this song initially until I heard the solo. The solo is a perfect example of how to make it challenging technically but also make it melodic and pleasant to listen to.
Extreme is amazing. They don't sound like anyone else and take inspiration from multiple genres of music. They also have some of the best harmonizing in the business. Check out Get the Funk Out, Decadence Dance, Play With Me, Midnight Express, Rest in Peace, and Warheads.
@@fritty9927 Don't know if you were alive during that era or how extensive your music listening is, but having grown up during those decades and having extremely eclectic and expansive music tastes, I can tell you you're wrong. Listen to Pornograffitti in it's entirety or Three Sides to Every Story. They certainly have songs that do sound a lot like other bands, but they also have a lot of stuff that doesn't sound like anyone else. How many bands do you know that put horns in their hard rock/metal songs?
@@pffawg9999 I get ya. Just was never a hair band fan. They all sounded pretty much the same. I’ve seen Kiss three times, Quiet Riot, Ratt, ect. My tastes are very eclectic and I’ve played in bands at Billy Bob’s and some other smaller venues with the likes of Alabama and Willie. I’m also a friend of the Reverend Peyton and his Big Damn Band and knew Leon Russell (RIP). I’ll be 70 years old this year, so yeah I’ve been around. Never meant to mean the post as reflection of people who like it, just my own 2 cents. PS: I still love pop and listen to everything from Rap to bagpipes. And I will admit there was a day when I’d blow out the speakers with hair band music.
Nuno is one of the greatest guitarists ever. Extreme as a band never got the attention many other 80’s bands did. Now if you want to see what Nuno can do check out him playing Flight of the Bumblebee live and yawning because it’s nothing for him. Other choices to check out Play with me Get the Funk out Kid Ego Mutha don’t want go to school Today Hole Hearted More than words - popular ballad the band grew to hate because it was a huge hit and they felt didn’t really represent them as a band
Nuno (Newno). Check "Get the Funk Out" and "Hole Hearted" This is a really good song from 2:22 to the finish. Strong track, good hooks, heavy. Gary Cherone sounds killer for 61 years old!
Anybody saying Gary sounded better back in the day is full of ish. He sounds exactly the same. Nothing wrong with that. I always liked the fact that his voice was so unique. Nuno is definitely the star of the show on this track. I like the fact that some of these bands are trying to bring back album rock. My only real complaint with this song is the double kick drum fill in the middle of the solo. Unnecessary.
Nuno is an incredible guitar player. He also played for Rihana. Gary the singer sang for Van Halen for three years. Extreme had a huge song back in the early nineties called “More than words” I’m sure you’ve heard it before. They are a good funk, Rock band. They are also good solid rhythm section (bass & drums) So glad they came out with a new album. I hope now that you know this you could appreciate their music and musicianship a bit more.
If you guys want to hear some of their song writing, listen to 3 Sides to Every Story, it’s their 3rd release. Great stuff with some orchestral arrangements as well, amazing stuff. Gary’s voice can be hot or cold for some people, I happen to love his voice and especially their harmonies when the 3 sing together. Good stuff guys.
Guys. Love your channel….all from the beginning, but you missed it on this one. Extreme has never been a band (aside from a few ballads) that you take it all in the first time. The entire band is top notch. This is Nuno bringing the guitar back to the forefront of rock. And as a side note, this is just a taste of what he can do.
These guys have no idea, one song they don't care for and they try to tear down accomplished musicians. Go listen to the entire new album and anyone with an ear can hear that Gary can still sing.
@@ericl1166 Listen! I just saw them in NY and Gary is amazing live. And you'd never know Nuno is rehabbing a bum knee. They are incredible live. And REALLY it's not fair to judge any band by one song, least of all this band, whose catalog is SO diverse! They don't fit into a genre.
So far I only saw one comment about Am I Ever Gonna Change. You guys should definitely check that out. I’m not sure if you guys will appreciate the song but there’s one called Seven Sundays which really shows off how amazing Gary Cherone is as a vocalist. Also check out There Is No God, amazing shit right there.
Finally someone saying something other than Pornografitti. It's like, they do have other songs than More Than Words, Hole Hearted & Get The Funk Out. As a song, Get The Funk Out is so generic as a "funk" song. But the damn solo destroys worlds.
My first exposure to Extreme was in the late 80's, when I heard their song "Play With Me" in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure." That tune is a great example of their early work, and Nuno"s neoclassical shred style. Nuno also has a solo album out there called "Schizophonic" that's really cool.
First: I always appreciate that you guys form YOUR opinion on everything. Free thinkers encouraged and demanded. I will only state what others have: listen to stuff off of Extreme II: Pornograffiti. It is the album that made them famous. They were young, adored Queen, and frankly, rocked. Even Decadence Dance, Cupid’s Dead or Get The Funk Out (I’m sure all have been suggested already x10) any one of those might give you a better idea WHY people are enthusiastic to see their return.
Nuno is one of the greatest of all time hands down. And every kid from the 90s has heard " more than words" where he sings and plays 12 string acoustic. This band had amazing bangers back in the day.
Here's the crazy thing about Extreme, each one of their albums doesn't sound like the next, but this I will say is soooo much more generic than their early stuff. Thise first 4 albums are phenomenal
I learn to play guitar with Nuno and EXTREME. It's a part of my DNA as a player. Nuno is still top notch ! Gary Cherone still can sing at 61. His tone of voice didn't really change. Can he still hits his high notes like back in the day ? I don't know. First time I heard the song, I wasn't sure about it (except for the solo of course) but the more I listen to it, the more I like it.
At least we all know about what we are commenting. These dudes react on something that they simply don’t know. That’s is how ignorant and intellectually dishonest one can be.
As a good starting point for Extreme, they took part in the Freddie Mercury Tribute in 1992 with Brian May giving them the okay to do a Queen Medley. May praises them (especially Nuno) at every opportunity. I agree it's a little bit generic but that's what they were going for in my view. First single after a long time in a changed landscape in the industry, they probably decided to go safe (they are not little kids anymore). It has the solo of course, but the packaging is designed to get radio time. However, if anyone's conclusion is that Extreme is that kind of band, boy you haven't even scratched the surface.
As much love as you gave the solo, I think you still undersold it. This is one of the best solos of the last 30 years...this is Nuno taking the crown as the best guitarist out there right now.
Nuno is paying homage to Eddie Van Halen with this new album. In fact, Eddie used to play on guitar He-Man Woman Hater (by Extreme) during dress rehearsal on tour. Eddie's guitar tech thought he was working on a new song.
This is where you guys are missing the point. The flippant comment about Gary's voice was unwarranted considering you've never heard him sing. He's got an absolutely massive range and he sounds as good here as he's ever sounded. Furthermore, the fans of extreme have been waiting for this for 15 years. And I mean checking updates each year for any news. That's how much respect they've garnered so to say the stay retired comment was a bit out of order. Nuno you got spot on. Probably the best guitarist alive today. But hey, they're just your opinions and in the grand scheme of things, your opinion counts as much as mine does. Peace.
Midnight Express is another example of how well Nuno plays. I recommend checking out the live version so you can see his technique. Other classic Extreme tracks include: Get the Funk Out, Decadence Dance, Mutha (Don't Wanna Go To School Today), and Hole Hearted.
Extreme has a very wide range of styles. They started out as kind of a hair/glam metal band, but with a lot of funk influence. Their biggest hit was More Than Words which made a lot of people associate them with ballads, ironically enough. Some of the stuff they did after that almost had alternative and grunge elements to it. Their newest album seems much more modern. One could say they changed with the times, but even within each of those times, I feel like they never fit into any mold. Extreme has always been quite experimental and known for doing things their way in the face of pressure from record company types.
Nuno, one.of the greatest under appreciated rock guitarists....in their heyday of the 80/90's a band that had it all. "Play With Me" classic guitar solo.
Nuno and Richie Kotzen are two guitarists killing it in this day and age. I love Nuno! Check out the song Xanadu by The Winery Dogs to hear Richie Kotzen next!
Ask ant talented musician and they will tell you this is an absolute banger. What Nuno is doing on the guitar is amazing. This is a great song. Extreme is back with the vengeance. I'm out.
Nuno Bettencourt is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Everybody in the band is the same from the original lineup except the drummer. You should listen to Get the Funk Out. Very unique rock song. If you really want to get deeper listen to Hole Hearted, More Than Words (you guys won’t like this one probably), or maybe Rest In Peace or Decadence Dance. Extreme is a very unique band with many different styles. Kind of like Queen in that sense. You can’t pigeon-hole them.
“Play with Me” is definitely one that should be listened to. I didn’t think of Extreme as anything othe than the “More Than Words” band until I saw Nuno during the Generation Axe tour. He was amazing.
That's actually what Gary cherone the singer has always sounded like. Extreme is one of my favorite bands but, in my opinion, Gary is always been the weakest link. But like geddy Lee with Rush it is the voice that fits extreme the best. Nuno Bettencourt is and always has been a monster. Again they are one of my favorite bands but at first person I did not like this song either. After going back to it several times I like it now. You have to kind of understand extreme through the years. They had put out blatantly Christian songs. They put out songs that sound like Frank Sinatra. Biggest song More than words sounds like the everly Brothers. They handle all genres well. The musicians are a step above those other bands although they get very little recognition
They grew up in MA and were raised Catholic, I believe. Don't know what their beliefs are now, 40 plus years after writing their first album.... But the "Christian song" thing is a little much. They weren't Stryper. 3 Sides wasn't "Christian".
@@pittstaffio I was talking about Watching Waiting on their first album. It is blatantly Christian which I think is great because they didn't care at all what people thought about that. I meant it as a positive.
@@johnwatson622 I think it's great too! But they got a little bit of backlash for Rock A Bye Bye on that same album. Rather, anti abort.... supporters received backlash for embracing the song. Trying not to be political here. It is a beautiful song, lyrically, vocally, the harmonies, the cello, and Nuno's ending solo is breathtaking.
You said it perfectly. It IS like a second coming for those who know them. To me, this feels like I'm back in the 80s, and I LOVE that sound! The fact they recognize excellent guitar work means they were being open minded about it though. We won't all agree on everything, but we all know someone needs to call the 🚒because that that solo was white hot!
I love that Extreme is finally getting reactions - Nuno was my initial guitar hero hands down. Wanna say they formed in like 86/7 - That's actually always been Gary's voice, I always loved it
Ben - Gary sings most of this song in a passive style I haven't heard him use before when singing to a balls out rocker like this. It didn't fit the aggressive riff and nasty tone coming from Nuno on this one. The solo is already legendary! Got to hear other tunes from this coming album - been waiting soooo long for this thing!
@@NotBenCoultry I am digging the fact you mentioned Waiting For The Punchline album, which I think a lot of people haven't heard or even know about. Us Nuno fans will follow him wherever he goes, I paid big money for his solo stuff (japanese imports) and it was worth every penny - love those solo albums, Nuno can deliver on the mic! When I hear him play, I just think of the thousands of hours he's spent practicing and practicing, fingers calloused and bleeding! His playing immediately reminded me of King Edward, especially his rhythm playing, his riffs are so percussive and filled with deep grooves. Going to listen to Punchline and Saudes De Rock to hear differences in Gary's vocals. This is a special band, Pat's a hell of a bass player, and I was hooked deep on their music the second I heard their debut! Can't believe we've waited this long for new material! King's X also put me through this.....waiting, waiting, waiting and then.....waiting..... Take care.
@@treff9226 Messed up coincidence: I rebuilt a $100 Squier Strat last year because fender's custom shop quoted me like $6K on a guitar. To those who found the LIV reaction to be shallow and sophomoric, I strongly encourage this song’s dissection on the Rick Beato channel. Rick had an insightful take on the guitar work by Nuno. 🎸
Boys, your honesty is always appreciated, regardless. 🤟 Let me help. 1) Nuno is the Guitar Player in Janet Jackson’s song, “BLACK CAT”. For a Song Suggestion, “Rest In Peace, Cupids Dead, Our Father, (Just about Any sing from That album - “ III Sides To Every Story “)”. For a surprise that anyone, not in the know, would *not put together, they are the band who wrote & released “More Than Words”. Yes it’s a quote unquote cheesy acoustic ballad, but it’s a bit of a Legend I’m it’s own right. Haha☺️ And yes, as a few folks folks mentioned, he worked with Rhianna for many years. Anyway, you boys are fantastic, and again, always appreciate your honesty. Thanks, - Dion.

Riffs in this song are so boring maybe he's only good at solos idk I haven't heard anything from him other than this song

Get the Funk Out or Cupids Dead. Please don’t do More Than Words. Great song, but doesn’t demonstrate the greatness of the band as a whole.

Brian May said the solo from Get The Funk Out is “colossal”. “A landmark in rock history”.

I don't know, I don't have words to describe it.
my man knows it! III sides to every story is my favourite of all time and it changes my life big time.
III Sides: Yours, Mine, and the Truth.
Nuno composed the music for the orchestra....and he can't read or write music. He did it on piano and guitar. He was heavily involved in the production. The album was their vision and man was it epic!!!
I have always said III Sides To Every Story is a desert island must.

Nuno is #2 behind EVH! Couldn't disagree more about your review of this song. It rocks and Gary sounds great.
Nah this song is generic garbage. Imagine being as good of a guitar player as Nuno and playing verse and chorus riffs this bad.

Yea. obviously these two missed the mark on this one. Gary sounds great on the entire album!
he is great but the song is mid. it is what it is
Yeah, they are just haters on what is a great comeback album by Extreme. Nuno is a guitar god, but Gary shows on this album that he does still have it.
I’ve been trying to get a reaction to Cupids Dead or Get the Funk Out for years. This is a bad first listen to highlight the band’s talent. One of the MOST underrated bands.
They have sooo many unbelievable songs. Hard to tell where to start
Those are both amazing songs and I think either *might* change their opinion on Extreme
Huge extreme fan here, was very disappointed in this generic song. These guys need to review “Cupid’s dead.”

Gary Cherone is actually a really good singer, or was in Extreme's heyday. He even replaced Sammy Hagar in Van Halen for awhile in the late 90's.

Gentleman say hello to Nuno one of the most respected guitarists in the industry and beyond
Agree with all of this. I love Extreme and I love these guys' taste in music and IMO they're just not gonna like Extreme, and that is fine.

100% correct. Auto tune sounds crap and unnatural.
@@NotSureIdiocracy he has lacked since VH3. I heard he had throat surgery or something back in the 90’s.
Gary is even better live!
He's 61
That is pure Gary. No autotune, no studio tricks. They record clean. Nuno built a sweet isolation box for vocals un his home studio and it paid off. As an Extreme fan from 1989, I'd rather hear 1000% Gary than autotune. And he is amazing live, just like the rest of the band. Extreme has always been a live band.
I usually agree a lot with you but I love this song. Gary's voice is unique and I love it. Everyone has different style. Nuno is also the guitarist in rhiannas band
Rihanna reached out to Nuno specifically for his style. That says a lot about him. And it worked
Can't agree more! You said all !
What he said. Like, all of it.
Gary was a very charismatic frontman. They didn't come more energetic. I liked his pipes, too. Comparing him to DLR is unfair. Dave was a top five, all-time. Extreme didn't sound like other
bands, and I agree that they were victims of bad timing and probably bad marketing.
Nailed it.
*EDIT*
We don’t have to always agree on musical tastes.

Gary Cherone has a really good voice AND he was the lead singer of VanHalen after Sammy.

I LOVE that song and it was my first exposure to Extreme.

Excellent analysis. I concur Wholeheartedly!!!😎
After all this time and all these reactions, I've never been so disappointed in you guys.
As much love as you gave the solo, I think you still undersold it. This is one of the best solos of the last 30 years...this is Nuno taking the crown as the best guitarist out there right now.
I’ve watched the Extreme Rise video multiple times, it’s fantastic. I’ve watched you guys once … I won’t be back
Nuno is paying homage to Eddie Van Halen with this new album. In fact, Eddie used to play on guitar He-Man Woman Hater (by Extreme) during dress rehearsal on tour. Eddie's guitar tech thought he was working on a new song.
Nuno Bettencourt is the best guitarist to ever pick up the instrument that no one knows about. I promise you.
Waiting for the Punchline is my favourite album.
Gary's voice is Gary's voice..love it or hate it...i love it
Yes. Get the Funk Out and also Whole Hearted. I like that song alot. The singer made one album with Van Halen.
Nuno Bettencourt also played guitar for Rihanna including the last Superbowl
The main verses and chorus remind me a lot of Velvet Revolver, but when the solo hits it just sounds like Nuno
It's really close to Superman Silvergun by STP. Gary's voice seems altered early in this song and it's not a good choice.
If it's not for you, it's not for you...but, you fellas can spot an OG shredder!
Nuno and Richie Kotzen are two guitarists killing it in this day and age. I love Nuno!
Check out the song Xanadu by The Winery Dogs to hear Richie Kotzen next!
Agree 100% with the reaction…this song has template written all over it!
Nothing to get excited over!
You should listen to Get the Funk
Out.
Nuno Bettencourt is my all time favorite guitar player. I absolutely love this song. Gary's vocals I think are great.
Nuno is EVH 2.0. Overall sound is polished STP with Van Halen solo...that's just me 🤷♂️
Also, Cupids Dead is baddasss!!!!
“Play with Me” is definitely one that should be listened to. I didn’t think of Extreme as anything othe than the “More Than Words” band until I saw Nuno during the Generation Axe tour. He was amazing.
Absolutely sick guitar playing … Talk about FLEXING. 💪🏼 Holy smokes😳
Check out "Play with me" from their first album back in 1989. The guitar playing is mind blowing!
The Bill and Ted mall scene song 😁
@@mudbutt234 I can’t hear the song without picturing Genghis Khan going apeshit with a baseball bat.
He plays a little of it in his solo
And again this is why you are the best reaction channel. Always honest on your thoughts
It"s good to have an unbiased opinion. This song for Extreme fans is like the 2nd Coming. I'm glad to hear you're impressed with Nuno's skill.
Guys, read the story of how their song “Hole Hearted” was recorded…then react to it!
This is pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nuno’s “extreme” talent on guitar is on full display, here! He is bringing this to another level! 🤯
@@treff9226 see I was hearing this on Punchline in a bunch of areas, a few on III Sides too, but it always sounds like a stylistic choice to me
The song Naked comes to mind
I didn't mean to do it, but it's the exact color of his N4, but with a cream pickguard - a friend noticed immediately when I posted a photo
(looks more like the cream/mahogany SRV strat to me)
To those who found the LIV reaction to be shallow and sophomoric, I strongly encourage this song’s dissection on the Rick Beato channel. Rick had an insightful take on the guitar work by Nuno. 🎸
Hmm... interesting take on Gary's vocals.... didn't think they're that bad... He's not pitchy or anything....
Boys, your honesty is always appreciated, regardless. 🤟
Let me help.
Haha☺️
And yes, as a few folks folks mentioned, he worked with Rhianna for many years.
Anyway, you boys are fantastic, and again, always appreciate your honesty.
Thanks,
- Dion.
