Hey Jen, my name is Geoff Miclat and I've been Clint's casting director for the past 12 years and I've worked in his casting department for just over 20. This was one of my earliest films I worked on and I hope you enjoyed it. It was a difficult, but extremely gratifying film to cast. We asked Clint if he wanted to cast the Hmong roles with Hmong people and he said yes. In 2008, this was a monumental task. There were virtually no Hmong actors around. All the Hmong actors in the film (with the exception of "Spider") were people we found. We traveled to the largest Hmong population centers in the US and we scoured local Hmong markets and festivals as well as putting ads in Hmong newspapers and radio stations. It was a stressful time, but such a wonderful experience. I love watching people react to this film. It brings back so many happy memories. Best, Geoff

Great reaction Jen. The reason Walt didn’t bring a gun is because the thugs could have killed him and plead “self defense”; then they don’t go to jail. Walt knew his limitations. He’s an old man not a young action star who’s going to attack the gang and kill them all. He carefully thought of a plan that would accomplish all his goals.

Well said. the neighborhood was living in fear. Nobody would talk. But everybody knew Walt and what he had done. And he set it up to where everybody and their grandmother literally saw what happened when they gunned an unarmed man, a war vet in cold blood on their front lawn. That's not gonna sit pretty with a jury, a judge and those reading the paper or seeing the news. The neighbors couldn't hide/turn away anymore the one person who stood up for them was killed in front of them. Only fair they spoke up on his behalf.

Clint has done the music for a lot of his films. He’s a very accomplished jazz pianist. So is Jeff Goldblum actually. Funny how no one ever talks about Clint’s music. It’s understated usually, very very utilitarian in a lot of ways. Clint’s use of silence or the natural surroundings is really special. Others do it in films, but with him it feels like a very deliberate choice rather than the by product of no music playing. His films really are amazing. I didn’t appreciate his work until I got a little older. I guess you get a little older and you start to recognize some of the feelings underneath it all. He’s so freaking old also and still making movies, and brilliantly as well. I think he has an office on the Warner Brothers lot? Think I saw the back of him one day when we were recording a score for a film on the at the Warner brothers studio, which is named Eastwood Studio in fact. I look at todays talent and I wonder if there is anyone to at could step into the place Clint holds in the business when he leaves us, and I just can’t find the honesty, or the depth of heart or character in almost anyone’s work today. You see flashes, but rarely a command of those things. Alright, enough of me gushing over this guy. Walt would’ve called me a pussy and told me to go get him another beer by now. Haha

This movie reminds me of my father after my mother passed away. He had his routine and his buddies and hangouts, and when my mother passed he had to adjust to several things in the modern world. It wasn't like he was frozen in time - he just had limited exposure to the modern world since my mother did the shopping and handled the bills. My mother would visit with the pastor of our church in her final year, and when she passed our pastor would stop by and visit with my father. The main difference is my father didn't carry the heavy psychological burden Walt carried. He liked visiting with the pastor.

I 100% agree that that is exactly how Walt wanted to go out, especially with how torn up he was about the stuff he did during the war. He didn't want to die slowly of cancer, and he didn't want to have to kill more people just because, even though he maybe could have. This was the only way for him to have a quick death and give the neighborhood, Sue, and Tao any sort of peace. We also know how they truly felt, because the whole neighborhood came out as witnesses instead of clamming up and protecting their own. So in that sense they were sticking up for Walt as one of their own against the gang, and he did it without a gun so that they couldn't claim self defense.
The will reading is also just awesome. The rat bastard family gets nothing, and the only person who gets anything is the one person who never expected anything. It's also just satisfying to hear him publicly acknowledge Tao as his friend, especially with the earlier reference just after he locked him in the basement.

Another nice movie again Jen.. One of his beggining movies directing was the western "The outlaw Josey Wales" and it is a very nice western movie. The other 2 great movies he got the Oscar also were "Mystic River" and " Changeling"..both were very deep..I mean very deep and unsettling .. he also released 2 war movies at same time can you believe it?..they were called "Flags of Our Feathers" and "Letters from Ivo Jima" showing the Americans and Japanese perpective.. but the list of movies he directed is huge and one lady on tv said once "..everything Clint Eastwood touches, turns gold..".. I truly believe so, because he puts so much love on whatever he touches.. he himself is a masterpiece of a person...great reaction Jen..looking charming as usual Jen..

I've seen many reactors gloss over the will towards the end. "I'd like to leave my house to the Church because Dorothy would've liked it". The HOUSE, what his son was after. Everyone is hanging onto the car segment, but him giving away his house is a huge thing many don't acknowledge and actually pretty hilarious of Walt.

When Walt locked Thao up, the steel screen on the door was reminiscent of the church confessional. Walt gave Father Janovich his confession about relatively minor things, but confessed to Thao about his real regrets in life.

Wonderful movie. I think that a lot of Clint's fans were shocked and moved to tears because this is only the second time we've ever seen him die on film (1971's "The Beguiled" was the first). Such a rare thing, very unexpected, but totally the right solution in this film. His death (which was inevitable anyway) served a purpose and gave his life meaning.

I am glad you enjoyed this film so much. I also love this film. I grew up with men like Walt and the Barber, and the construction Foreman. My grandfather was something like Walt. To see such a bigoted man soften up and become endeared to an Asian family like that, after really disliking them, and even grow close to a couple of them, is incredible. This is incredibly heartfelt. I ALWAYS cry at the end, and I'm a guy. This is one of my favorite films.

I love the part when the gang rolls up on Toad in the ally and the kid throws his tape measure on the ground. As if its not made of metal and designed to take way more abuse than that, but it's suggested that his tools were broke. No chance they broke a single one of those things with just their bare hands.

Without question, one of Eastwood’s best movies ever. I’ve been a fan of his work since the Seventies.
But these days he’s just as great at directing as he is acting. I’ve loved many of his pictures, however Grand Torino is special. It’s definitely one to watch more than once.

Jen, if anybody is complaining and/or getting upset that you didn't cry at a specific scene in a movie, then there's no way they are real fans of yours, and you should just pay them no mind! More than likely they clicked on your video because you happen to be reacting to one of their favorite movies, and they're the type of people who can't handle somebody not having the same reaction as they do...
You are awesome, and your reactions are genuine and entertaining as "frig", so keep doing what you're doing, and don't give any more energy to the crybaby snowflakes in your comment section! Lol

I recommend "Hereafter", it's a hidden gem. Not only did Clint Eastwood directed the film, he also wrote and performed the music for it.
The movie flopped in the US - not because it's bad but because 1/3 of the film is in French and Americans disliked movies with subtitle.

If people watching your reactions expect you to react a certain way and you don't, and they get upset about it, don't listen to them and they should start their own reaction channels. You do you the way you feel. This is your channel and I'm here to see you. Not them. Thank you for your reaction. I look forward to seeing you Sunday morning.

I think that this is one of those movies where it brings men to tears as much as, if not more than women. There's something about a man sacrificing himself for someone else that I think just hits a man's heart a little harder than it does a woman's. Plus, the character growth of a hardened man like this is something that is great to see. Nice reaction, and there's never a reason to apologize for crying, or not crying. Everyone gets emotional in different ways and at different times.

I saw this movie in the theater the 2nd weekend it was out. It was nearly sold out and most of the audience gave it a standing ovation at the end. Despite the poor acting of the Hmong actors, this was easily my second most favorite film of his after Unforgiven.
