This episode was foreshadowed way back in Silence in the Library. When River wanted to discuss where they are in the timeline, she mentioned "crash of the Byzantium".
You thought YOU were surprised to see River? Imagine what it was like for those of us that watched all this happen live. For us, it had been 2 years since we had seen her. After season 4, we had a year of the David Tennant specials leading up to his regeneration, and then we had to wait another year for season 5. At that point most of us assumed she was just another one-off character like Jenny(The Doctor's daughter). I remember how excited I was to see her pop-up again. River quickly became my favorite Doctor Who character.
Indeed. One of the reasons I think 'The Eleventh Hour' is such a great introductory episode to a new Doctor and companion is that it was actually about the 5th episode they filmed, so everyone is just more at ease with each other, the scripts, production etc. That said, everyone does a brilliant job here too and as you say, it was their first time working together.
This episode is what made me instantly like Matt Smith as The Doctor because of that speech at the end of this episode, I always like it when they show the sadness and darkness that is inside of The Doctor and how easy it would be for him to just kill the Weeping Angels, Daleks, Cybermen, etc but instead he always gives them a chance/choice to stop or be stopped. No Second Chances. The first time [10th] The Doctor met River was the last time River met The Doctor because she "died" in the library.

Also, I love the Doctor's "there's one thing you never put in a trap" speech. That one's a classic. Matt gets some really good speeches during his run.
That cliffhanger was amazing. I always love the darkness of the 11th Doctor. You try to put the Doctor in a trap he always get out. If you put the Doctor in one jigsaw traps he will be the one to get out easy.

Interestingly this was the first full episode Matt filmed and performed as the 11th Doctor. Though 11 is not my ultimate favourite it is more than commendable that he plays the part sooo well with his fellow actors for a 26 year old. You can feel the weight of time in his performance & with your rewatch I like him more and more. In a video with Steven Moffat years later he explains that he put a lot of effort and time on this two parter over some other episodes and that was a mistake in hindsight but this was in his first year as showrunner one notable episode he took his eye off was Episode 3 "Victory Of The Daleks" in S5. All that being said this Angel two parter you can see the effort in story, production and design to make it come alive in its performances.
@@john0constantine Ah, haven't seen him in that (but a quick RUclips search shows he does indeed have an Irish accent in it). The ginger thing's a bit deceptive in that respect because though Ireland has the highest rate in the world (at about 10% of the population), Scotland has around the second highest (at about 6%).
At the end of this episode, Matt Smith surpasses Tennant for me. I'd been fairly sold on him since The Eleventh Hour, but from here onwards he's the Doctor. Glad you liked it. Sorry nobody can answer your questions without giving spoilers!
Interesting bit of trivia. When that episode was first aired the dramatic conclusion was completely ruined by an on-screen graphic. Annoyed quite a lot of people: ruclips.net/video/dS6xItoyfdg/видео.html
I love the two parters were you lose track of time cause the story’s so gripping. I’m sad we didn’t get to see you react to the tellytubbie Daleks. Lol
I agree with one of the comments below me! I think a reaction to 5x10 would be way better than 5x07. 5x10 is such a good, beautiful episode. Then again it's totally up to you and don't want to overload you with reactions.
i do enjoy watching you discover and sharing with us what impacts you the most about Dr Who , however im with other people on this one, 5x10 is just outstanding and i would with all my heart love to watch your reaction to it.
Good to see you getting into 11 and Amy ;). I think one of the reasons Amy hasn't asked about her future whereas Donna did might be the relative ages of the characters. Amy's 21 here (vs maybe 40 ish for Donna) and at 21 it doesn't really occur to you to wonder where you are in the future, you think about it less and more than that, just kind of take it for granted that you have one.
Without giving anything away, she didn't mean that the next doctor is "her doctor"- she was just saying that she has seen all of the doctor's faces and has images of them, but they are not in the correct order. The next doctor could be hers, I'm not saying anything- but that's all she meant by that line.
Funny, 7, 8 and 9 are not that high on my list, but I’m never complaining about getting a reaction ! Moreover, you HAVE to know that 8 and 9 are written by Chris Chibnall, who’s the current showrunner of Doctor Who. It makes for a great watching experience, trying to spot his writing tropes, haha. 10, 12 and 13 are all absolute classics, no questions asked, can’t wait to see you react to those. But come on, if by any chance you have the time... 11 is a tiny jewel of heartfelt comedy and human emotion. It’s great and I would love to see you react to it. Any way, thank you for the great work !
By the way, while I’m going on about writers : episode 10 is written by Richard Curtis. Now that’s some absolute star casting on Moffat’s part. Curtis is an acclaimed writer and director. He wrote Notting Hill, Bridget Jones Diary, wrote *and* directed the absolute classic Love Actually. Basically, he is mister clever rom-coms and his episode of Doctor Who is fantastic !
I'm almost relieved to hear you say you like Matt and Karen. :) With the episode reactions (5, 7, 8, 9), it's a little difficult with this season because I figured there would be SO many important episodes to react to. More than any other season, in my opinion. I'm sure you've reacted to them all by now anyway but I possibly would've taken a chance and left out episode 8. Then have 10, 12, 13. I know that's a lot though.
the angels scared the crap out of me when I saw the episode with Catherine Tate and loved how he trapped them since they got caught by all the other angels in a circle so they were seen at all times!
Don’t worry everyone! I’m reacting to 5x10 :)
Did you reacted to 5x2 too?
"We don't interfere into other people or planets. Unless there is children crying"
From the quote of the 9th doctor. FUN/TASTIC!! 5x10 i look forward to your reaction.

(and Father Octavian's accent is fairly generic southern English)
@@anonymes2884 Indeed. I think I have been fooled by him playing Jack Taylor. And him being a ginger.
I figure you'll be posting the series finale. And the Christmas episode. Wish we could talk about River but...spoilers.
"fuck it" 😂
Hello Shayla. River Song is back, remember her from Silence in the Library. And those scary Angels are back also. Don’t blink. This is a 2 parter.
5x10 is the best episode of the show imo, try not to skip that one if possiblel
she is reacting to it
At the end of this episode, Matt Smith surpasses Tennant for me.
Lol
You SO have to watch "The Pandorica Opens" and "The Big Bang" which are 5x12 and 5x13. They are so good, you'll enjoy them.
I will!
Greetings from Australia. Happy New Year and all u RUclipsrs out there. :) loving your reviews and reactions. Keep up the gr8 work. :)
Thank you!
I agree with one of the comments below me! I think a reaction to 5x10 would be way better than 5x07. 5x10 is such a good, beautiful episode. Then again it's totally up to you and don't want to overload you with reactions.
she's doing 5x10
i do enjoy watching you discover and sharing with us what impacts you the most about Dr Who , however im with other people on this one, 5x10 is just outstanding and i would with all my heart love to watch your reaction to it.
I am :)
Why are you doing 7 and not 10?? Legit one of the greatest episodes of Who ever
She IS going to do 10. :-) And I agree.
she is doing 10
I am doing 10 :)
I never enjoyed 10
I envy you getting to watch this for the first time.
Damn was looking forwards to beast below.
I assume the reaction video to the next episode was one of the ones that was blocked. I guess there isn't anywhere else it exists to watch?
Good to see you getting into 11 and Amy ;). I think one of the reasons Amy hasn't asked about her future whereas Donna did might be the relative ages of the characters. Amy's 21 here (vs maybe 40 ish for Donna) and at 21 it doesn't really occur to you to wonder where you are in the future, you think about it less and more than that, just kind of take it for granted that you have one.
Interesting!
Without giving anything away, she didn't mean that the next doctor is "her doctor"- she was just saying that she has seen all of the doctor's faces and has images of them, but they are not in the correct order. The next doctor could be hers, I'm not saying anything- but that's all she meant by that line.
The vashta nerada (shadows) were the scariest villains to me. The Master is my all time fav. And you REALLY need to watch 5x10.
she is
Yessss! I hoped you would do this one! :D Ser Friendzone FTW!!!
And WOOHOO @ that you'll do 5x10!
11 was sadly not recommended enough for me to react to, just know that the entire time I was just laughing in disbelief haha.
I love your theory's can't wait for the next one pls tell me when your at season 6
Pls react to 5x10. It's one of the most beautiful episodes of the fifth season.
she is
@@eleven5885 Thank youuuu.
@@JustSoShayla Your welcome! xx
That end music, though!
I'm almost relieved to hear you say you like Matt and Karen. :)
With the episode reactions (5, 7, 8, 9), it's a little difficult with this season because I figured there would be SO many important episodes to react to. More than any other season, in my opinion. I'm sure you've reacted to them all by now anyway but I possibly would've taken a chance and left out episode 8. Then have 10, 12, 13. I know that's a lot though.
I am doing 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, and 13 ;)
@@JustSoShayla Yessss! Thank you Shayla. :)
That me in a trap speech is my fav. So bad ass.
I was like you, cried when Tennant left, hated Smitt, then he became my favorite :D
Shayla saying ‘fuck it’ is awesome!
the angels scared the crap out of me when I saw the episode with Catherine Tate and loved how he trapped them since they got caught by all the other angels in a circle so they were seen at all times!
Catherine Tate want in that episode!!!!!
River Song ;)
Okay... WHAT is that sound at 7:18?? cause I know it isn't in the episode.
for season 5 the best ones to react to are:
5x1
5x2
5x4
5x6
5x7
5x8
5x10
5x13
@Cupcakemuffin234 yeah oops
I always watch the fall video 😂🤘
