I would like to see a branch of mental health care workers assigned to keeping tabs (checking in) on anyone with a schizophrenia diagnosis. These professionals would be tasked with frequent check ins and interviews with the person and anyone who lives with or works with them. It would cost but I believe it's worth it.
Also, there are so many schizophrenics that are homeless, due to various reasons, but one being that they've gone off their meds and a structured life has become unmanageable. It would be extremely difficult to "keep tabs" on the wandering homeless.
Nice thought, but isn't always effective. It is a very good thought, though. The day before I was stabbed, I had asked the County Behaviora Health office if my neighbor was dangerous. Long story of why we were living in close proximity. They sent the "mobil unit"out to check on him, and he stabbed me the next day! Would have likely bled to death in the street, if my neighbors hadn't helped me quick.
Danny (Little Boy Blue) is the saddest story. Can’t fathom what he must have endured with a father like that. Pray there is a heaven so that Danny is in it. And a hell for his POS “dad” so that he can burn and suffer through all of eternity.

Good to hear the true whole story on Little boy Blue in Chester, Ne . We move around about 30 miles away from there in 1986 and it was in the news all the time but this is a whole new story to it.
Sometimes, unfortunately medicine does not help. I was stabbed severely in the arm and chest by a man suffering with paranoid schizophrenia. Severed my brachial artery, I was never informed if he was taking his medicine, or not. No one would have divulged that. Like Chris said, some people are not dangerous. Horrible condition to live with, and very difficult to manage. It can be brought on by drug use, or abuse, whatever you want to call it. I've never figured out if a person has to have a proclivity for the for the disease (?) don't know if is considered a disease, or if anyone can become schizophrenic from drug abuse. I do know that it occurs.

It honestly seems like the entire system, community and everyone else around Ed failed him (except his lawyer in the end). He was crying for help but instead of taking it seriously they brought him to two witch doctors, whom should of been charged alongside him IMO. @@DIVEWITHSTEBE Not to be a crumb, but the condition is wildly hard to treat. Often the medication makes the person feel so bad (drooling, can't stay awake)that it is nearly intolerable. No, it's not rare. It's just hidden from the public. They deal with each other behind closed doors through shunning & more. There's wolves amongst sheep everywhere in society.
You are right. They deal with each other in their own way. The power of the Amish community is very real. On the outside it looks so peaceful and serene, but it isn't always that way. Most victims have no idea how to get the help they need. We tend to romanticize the Amish lifestyle and we tend to hold them to a higher standard. They are people just like the rest of us and there are good and bad in every society. I hope that things will change so that the victims don't have to fear the reaction from the community.
Agreed - it doesn't matter where you're from, bad people are everywhere. I am surrounded by Amish here in Pennsylvania. There was a local murder here in their community just 2 years ago. Trust no one.

I live on the outskirts of a large Amish community, and I interact with many of them on a very regular basis. They have a general store/farming and livestock equipment. I went in today with a friend. Near the children's toy isle was an Amish mother with two young children. She said good morning to me, which doesn't happen from Amish women. I went and sat down on a bench near the front desk. The older Amish gentlemen were cheerful and pleasant. Next I see the Amish women and her children go into the office behind the desk. A young order man, her husband, went into the office and slapped her silly, in public, because the younger child fussed for about 30 seconds. Her husband did not speak to any of the English except the almost naked junkie that walked in and chatted him up for some meth that he was holding. Shit is just simply accepted in many Amish communities, and there isn't much that anyone can do about it. It's strange, they are so unbelievably religious and tied to their God, yet they have no churches.
You both have done an excellent job in your narration. Your grammar and pronunciation is perfect….something that is very rare on most true crime channels.

I live in the heart of Amish country, Lancaster, PA, and this is no surprise. Murder is not common within the community but domestic violence is not uncommon. The problem is that women who go outside of the community are shunned and even things like the abuse of children are dealt with internally. The Amish use a lot of holistic treatments and it's often not enough. So, I'm not at all surprised by this.

Thus hits way to close to home. 😭 My dad was raised Amish and both his parents had a mental break down when he was a small child. They spent some time in the mental hospital but got better and worked extremely hard to purchase their own farm. Then when my dad was a young man, his dad committed suicide by hanging. They left the Amish church and moved to Arkansas where his oldest brother had a mental breakdown in his 40s. He was a gentle and kind man but turned into a completely different person during that time. After getting out of the mental hospital he also took his own life by hanging. There are many good people among the Amish who struggle with depression and mental illness. I do remember reading the book Forgotten Prayers a few years back. That was not mental illness. Very disturbing and evil.
Unfortunately, there is a strong genetic factor when it comes to mental illnesses. I'm bipolar and I can trace it at least four generations back. Fortunately, I have a 95% normal life thanks to modern medications, and my heart goes out for these before me who didn't have the access to them and ultimately took their own lives. ♥️
Oh my, I know what that is like. The first one that I ever read was "Cry For War" I'm telling you, that book chilled me and still does! I'll have to check out "Abandoned Prayers".

Omg, I LOVE these Recap Podcasts from you guys!! I love the banter that you have together, it's amazing! On one of the last ones you did Amy said that she remembers a few people from high school that if they ever did a crime she'd be like "I knew it!" LOL!! I can totally relate to that, lol! 😂 I worked with a guy like that and all my coworkers and I had a "safeword" that if we ever noticed him come in and pull something suspicious out of his pockets or walk in with the stereotypical trenchcoat one day, we would yell out the safeword and run! We were that afraid of him. I wonder if anyone else ever did something like that because they were that uneasy about someone?.....

What that town did for that little boy brought me to tears.

I would like to see a branch of mental health care workers assigned to keeping tabs (checking in) on anyone with a schizophrenia diagnosis. These professionals would be tasked with frequent check ins and interviews with the person and anyone who lives with or works with them. It would cost but I believe it's worth it.
Lol statistically schizophrenics are not dangerous. You want to monitor a large amount of harmless people who are innocent of any crime?
The problem is human rights, they don’t have to except help or take their meds regardless of their previous history. It’s gross, I know.

Amish are no more holy than any other group of people. They are just people who very carefully choose their own religious rules. Like no modern things...they can't own a car (maybe) but they can ride in them and trains. And they are extremely patriarchal.

Good to hear the true whole story on Little boy Blue in Chester, Ne . We move around about 30 miles away from there in 1986 and it was in the news all the time but this is a whole new story to it.
I am going to have to look up that author now and get his books! Thanks for the great recaps!
Paranoid schizophrenics are absolutely dangerous if they go off their meds. Family members are the ones at most risk.
No not most of them.
Totally agree. They should be locked up.
@@lynnehuff9659 paranoid schizophrenia is demonic possession. Medication they only suppresses the voices of the demons that have taken over that person's soul. Doctors won't say that. They've gotta get paid
It honestly seems like the entire system, community and everyone else around Ed failed him (except his lawyer in the end). He was crying for help but instead of taking it seriously they brought him to two witch doctors, whom should of been charged alongside him IMO. The Amish community sounds like a pretty rough place to grow up, and more of a cult than anything....
Herbs are real medicine. Schizophrenia puts holes in your brain. They aren't witch doctors. Witch doctors give you patented pills with fifty side effects including death
@@gingersnap9712 Did you even watch the video? Had he been taken to a real professional this all could have been avoided. SMH
@@DIVEWITHSTEBE herbs are real medicine. Once you lose brain mass there's only so much that can be done for you.
@@gingersnap9712 Herbs are used for medicine, but I never said it wasn’t. I criticized the fake doctors, and their lack of understanding on what to do with a mentally ill person. All these people let Ed down when he was vulnerable and in need of real help.
@@DIVEWITHSTEBE Not to be a crumb, but the condition is wildly hard to treat. Often the medication makes the person feel so bad (drooling, can't stay awake)that it is nearly intolerable. Finding the right medicine, and the correct dosage is very tricky. Hate to say it, but it isn't always effective, either. We can't just kill 'em, anyway some people are not harmful at all.
I feel sorry for the first story. The poor wife..trying to live and deal with such a situation and then such a brutal death. Those poor children. But I also feel sorry for Ed. He needed help. Living with such an illness would be horrible. :(

Hello from Ohio, hanging out with the Amish.
Good morning...or afternoon by now. 🤣Thanks for watching!
I have just subscribed after watching only a few of your podcasts. Seems you have something very special here and now going to binge watch.
“Left in a ditch, covered in snow, on Christmas Eve”… just, sigh😐

We appreciate that!
The last Eli and his mistress were so sure of themselves that they turn stupid. And I feel stupid listening to Barbara’s explanations of things; “The texts were just jokes” “I was only trying to scare her”. What the hell.

Oh my gosh... I can't even! What a bunch of sick people 😖this world/justice system has a long way to go... not to mention in these communities so much goes unreported, actually in so many communities behind closed doors we are unsure of our neighbors!!! It seems something crazy comes up more often than not lately... 😳and clearly has been for years. SOBERING THOUGHT. May all the victims be resting in Peace 🙏 as always thank you both for the recap really enjoy your channel as well as appreciate the work and time you put into sharing it with us. 💛🥂

My dad was raised Amish and both his parents had a mental break down when he was a small child.
