All factories in the world are customized. Individual components are off the shelve, but the combination is always custom and the level of completeness of these components depend highly on R&D cost and the volume of goods. So let's put this to the same logic. A machine like this will set you back at least 80k once you factor in all automation, sensors, etc. Beekeeping as an industry isn't very niche as such, but most mass producers of honey are primarily using plastic foundations as that serves them better for mass production. So you are left with a niche subsection of beekeeping, how much business is there to go around for mass produced wax foundations? And as such, how many potential customers would there be for such a specific machine? Not many I can tell you. So now to this company. Designing, testing and producing such a machine would be 500k-1M in R&D alone. You'd have to sell hundreds of such machines to even make a profit. And that doesn't factor in things like support and maintenance. To bring home the point I'm making, go back to the price point for that roller. 5K is a lot of money for two water cooled honeycomb with a couple of bearings and sprocket. That is what R&D costs do to a piece of equipment in a low volume market. That is also why the more complete 310mm machine is just a mere $1350, more customers, means more profit to spread the R&D costs.
