You can use a OBD tool. Some simple ones don't work, I use a the OBDLink MX+ (bluetooth), works well, requires a phone app purchase called MotoScan ($20 I believe). Together with MX+ still much cheaper than GS911. (I used an old GS911 on my previous bike, a 2012 R1200GS, which had a non-standard round connector. For the newer bikes BMW has been forced to "standardize" the connector per EU rules.)
Hi Pat, I'd like to ask you the magnetic drain plug was there originally or you or someone changed it from OEM one ? If yes can you please tell me where I can find one lie this ? If you know .. Thank you
My 2018 GSA came stock with a magnetic drain plug, I believe the new 1250's have the same one. If you were looking for a new one, any BMW dealer should be able to hook you up.
Great video I wished I had known this before purchasing my 2020 f850 gsa. This is my 3rd BMW. When I have to spend 400.00 to reset tft.is a joke. Dealers can't keep up with amount of work they have (3 week wait time on oil change) so long BMW!
I think it is for motorcycle only, but check the website. If you're asking about the wrench for the oil filter I have no idea what size it is. I just bought one made for the bike.
This was the run-in / break-in service? Thinking about doing this myself but I keep reading online that BMW updates the software during that service. True?
I would assume so. It works with my 12. But to reset service notice with a phone is hard. I did it once then wasn’t sure how I did it. I am going to do a video on it if I can nail it down. On a laptop it’s easy.
I just got a new gs and like you want to do my own service until i spoke to a parts guy at bobs bmw While they are in maine i am in calif so no connection there i wont be going there for service work Bobs bmw told me i should take it to the dealer for the first service only because they perform proprietary engine management things that cant be done by someone like you or myself (im a retired 40 year tec ) so i was surprised by what i was told if that is true i wonder how its falls under the magnasum moss laws of the united states Anyways i dont know about every single thing done at a 600 mile service only what im told by bobs bmw they making me feel like i need to take it to the dealer for the first service only
I always do first service at dealer. With my 23. There were software updates too. I’m getting lazy in my old age. I do the 6k services but then the dealer do valve checks
GS-911got 2 type 1 with wifi 1 is without. Wifi U can link up your mobile phone to used it while not wifi u need to used cable to link up kind of troublesome. u can update your GS-911wifi on your desktop or laptop first in order to get the latest update before using it.
Yes so that I can used my mobile phone to get rid of the serving due etc no need laptop & cable. I brought that at us $430 convert to sg around $645. Till now haven’t used on bike as my new gs1250 adventure still at Europe as lock down. Once u got your own GS-911wifi u doesn’t need to go servicing just plug in & fix unless got major issues then need to go shop to fix.
finally an easy video to understand the complicated reset service on a BMW GS, where can I get that GS911 tool? thank you
Thanks! Several retailers. I bought mine online. You can find a retailer here.
www.hexcode.co.za
Or just a internet search.
@@PatsAdventuresTravels thank you !

Thanks Pat! Nice video. I wish I’d bought the GS911 when Bob’s BMW had them on sale!
And I bought mine way before a sale lol
Pat, I have a 2019 R1250Rt . I traded in a 2014 K1600. Will the Mahle oil filters I used on the K bike fit my 2019 R bike?
I honestly have no idea. I have heard that is the company that makes the filters for the ADV bikes.

I don't know. I bought the bike with 1761 miles on it.

Yeah but BMW isn't the only one that won't let you reset a service light without an external device. Its nuts!
What is the size of oil wrench ?
Can GS 911 be used for a bmw car ?
I think it is for motorcycle only, but check the website. If you're asking about the wrench for the oil filter I have no idea what size it is. I just bought one made for the bike.
Hi like to find out about the GS-911wifi.. there another type round connector GS-911wifi will it able to used on your bike gs1250 adventure?
Thanks
The round type by my understanding is for the older bikes. The newer bikes have the same OBD II connector as cars.
Ok. This means i dont need the round connector cable. I just plug in the rectangular connector directly to the GS911 as shown in this video.🙄
What type of oil did you use and where did you get that oil filter wrench?
I have used Motul and BMW Oil. I think I got the wrench from Beemer Bone Yard but I don't remember for sure.
Thank You!! 👍👍
Welcome! Hope to meet you two at the rally in Springfield! You’re living my dream!!
Awesome. Yes we’ll be there. We’re speaking at the GA rally the first of May. Kinda nervous about that 👍😳
@@TwoWheelsBigLife You'll do fine!

This was the 6000 mile maintenance. I bought this bike slightly used so it had the first service done before I bought it.
Looked like they used the rear wheel nut torque setting on that oil filter.
Also idea to put some oil in the filter before you put it back.
I think they did it at the 12K service too. I just did the 18K service and the oil filter was crazy tight again.
Your video is very useful. Thanks for sharing it!
Thanks!
will the GS 911 work with Iphone 13

Can the GS911 crash the bike's software or programme ? if yes, how to restore ?🙄
I do not believe you can reprogram anything, but I honestly do not know. I think you should ask the company that.
I saw two prices for the GS911. One is around $300 and the other is around $700. What is the difference ?

@@haya7573 thx. Just the Wi-Fi doubles the price. What do you suggest ?

I bought the wifi version so if I need it out on the road I can use my cell phone.
It is not the Wi-Fi but the amount of brands of VIN numbers you can connect with. Ten versus unlimited !!
Thanks Pat, this was very helpful 👍
Thank you! Glad it helped.
Does anyone on here have any suggestions where to buy the GS 911 on sale? It seems pretty pricey at $400.
Sorry can't help with that one. Watch for Black Friday sales is my only thought.
i like the sargent seat
I ended up selling it and having my OEM seat customized to me. But it was way better than stock!!
You would have been better off getting the MotoScan diagnotic tool over the GS911. I have both and all I can say is tbe GS911 is grossly overpriced.
