I never thought I'd see Nijinsky dance, seen plenty of pictures but this is wonderful. Yes it is dis-jointed and choppy but still, it's unbelievable, to think this was danced over 100 years ago and here we are today being able to see this wonderful dancer. Thank you for putting this together, it is truly amazing to see this.

@@edteune I think so too, but nevertheless gives laypeople a hint of how "primitivism" affected Western art during that period...and how entrenched a group of amazing artists Diagilev assembled to take to Paris and stayed...

Knew his choreography was considered "difficult" at the time, and he had trouble getting the classically trained dancers to execute it, but even these few clips shown here prove that he was an innovator, and way ahead of his time, imo. It would have been quite easy to produce a "reconstruction" with much better quality - but what would have been gained? I think the deliberately fragmentary and primitive nature of this video expresses exactly the great sadness of the fact that there's no film of the man himself. In this way it becomes a personal expression of loss. Having seen the marvellous exhibition on Diaghilev at the V&A a while ago, I really value this film. The exhibition was slightly marred, in my opinion, by the addition of some pretty dire modern "hommages". This film, in their place, would have made a perfect, poignant ending to the show. Thanks for all the work that clearly went into it, and thanks for sharing it.

I confirmed, it is indeed a real film of Rudolf Nureyev and Vaslav Nijinsky
in one scene. The great surprising fact here is that the footage is about 9 minutes long, which is huge considering that his manager didn't want him to get filmed. He is god like in the footage, moving with such divine grace, so lithely! I highly recommend you check that footage out.
