Hey, everyone, welcome to my Starfield let's play! This is a casual playthrough of the game, where I take my time and learn and explore.
In this episode: After some mishmash of following rabbit holes, as one does, we head off to find a place to finally build an outpost.

Bessel III-b is an excellent place to build an outpost.
It has Aluminum, Iron, Cobalt, Nickel Platinum, and Argon.
Aluminum and Iron are especially important, as they are used for building Adaptive Frames at an Industrial Workbench, which are needed for a lot of things that are built at outposts.

This is an old video so you have more than likely already figured this out
if you place the beacon it tells where you can and cannot build. Also when placing the extractors they tell you where all of the deposits are. Like you said previously you want to put the beacon right in the middle of both. The extractors will not extract from surface deposits. Also, the extractors themselves will level them selves out so the level of the terrain will not hinder building. You can switch to the top view to view the buildable area. Once you build the launch pad, or the shipbuilding pad when you leave and then come back your ship will land on the either pad.

Jake has an outpost! Yay! lol
Next time I play I want to play from scratch, so I deleted my saves. I recall having about 8 outposts collecting about 57 resources and created a spreadsheet to keep track of it all. This means while today I know on which planets/moons to build an outpost, I've no idea where to place an outpost for maximum resources. Previously I found spots by searching RUclips for videos pinpointing sites with maximum resources, but there's no immersion in that.
Strangely, you can't survey the planet from you ship to find a sweet spot landing site, which is a weakness of the game. We can fly between stars, but must walk planet surfaces with our outpost beacon out like a dowsing rod looking for good outpost sites.
I like outpost exploration and resource gathering. I think BGS is trying to highlight exploration, but missed how to make it immersive without wandering planets on foot with a dowsing rod. It's a big galaxy, guys. Mod time, I guess.

You can see the number of days passed on the status page, which you can access from your main character page. The key you need to press should be shown on the bottom right of that page (it´s B on PC, I think it´s Y on Xbox).

Keep your spacesuit and helmet on.
When you go to the spacesuit tab in your inventory, there is an option at the bottom of the screen to hide the spacesuit when in a breathable atmosphere.

Neon is good for selling stuff. multiple shops on one strip and then sit on a bench for 2 days and carry on selling when they run out of money

Put all of your crafting materials in the Lodge.
There is a small container in the basement with unlimited storage space.
It's on a bench in the middle of the first room you come to in the basement.

FYI - aluminum is the third most abundant element in the Earth’s crust. Not an alloy 🤓
