Thank you Mark and Gearhead Hobbies, At 56;50 I got to see my friends #80 Hizer Racing Spirits on the salt. Other than this its all been in Pics. God Bless. Georgia Mad Mike.
Thanks to Tim Johnson of Gear head Hobbies for posting this old LSR Video. Thanks also to the LSR Teams who provided the in car and drone footage. Stay tuned for more to come. mb
Mr Suzuki. You don't know what you're talking about. Speedweek is not the same. There isn't an a dragster in the world that could drive 5 miles on salt. They couldn't carry enough fuel, the engine would die at 1/2 mile, they could not get traction, the aero is completely wrong. Stick to what you know.
Actually you are wrong, they could pull overdrive out of the super charger and detune it. And change the final drive assembly. The part that would keep it from getting there is the tires.. They are the most important part that makes the dragster capable of its speed at growth. The salt would destroy them
@@maegenyoungs2591 I'm not trying to start an argument with anyone, but these are two different cars with different requirements. Tires are a bid part but look at the differences. Sticks are tall, wide with low pressure. Salt flat tires are very thin, high pressure. Gearing is completely different. Salt flat gearing is so low numerically, they need a push truck to get going. Aero is completely different. Drag cars need down force (wings) to plant the tires. That's called high DRAG. Salt flat cars need to be as aero as possible, low frontal area, stabilizing tail fins where possible. Car weight is different with drag cars as light as possible while speed demon needs to be heavy for traction on the salt ( it's slippery). This could go on and on. I love drag cars but they are totally different than Salt Flat cars. Next year come out to Bonneville and we can talk further
NASCAR's do 200, on a highbanked oval, with millions of dollars used per season, many millions developing the cars to do it, and teams of hundreds of people. They don't do 400mph on shoe string budgets with small teams of volunteers. There is zero to compare between the two forms of racing.
Hay brother , BigAl California here ,and I have my freind coming to the next El Mirage with his taco trailer, buddy he has all of his license and food card , so reach out to me, and we can talk, ok seven you know six how to do this zero, right ok seven nice six tacos two, ,right five , need to get eight , to see where want me six ,to park five mile mark or ? Thanks BigAl California
If you need a mile to hit 341 mph, you are a joke. Top Fuel Dragsters and Nitro Funny Cars are routinely accelerating from zero to 338 mph in just 3.6 seconds in 1,000 feet, not a mile. In February of 2024, Bob Tasca driving his Nitro Funny Car accelerated from zero to 341 mph in 3.8 seconds in 1000 feet. Speedweek is a laugh compared to NHRA drag racing. If you want to see speed, go to an NHRA national event.
Yes top fuel drags are great and fast BUT put one in salt and it will go nowhere fast and then blow up…just saying you can’t compare these two extreme speed sports. Oh and 341 mph on salt isn’t near the fastest achieved to date and some cars would leave a top fueller for dead on a long speed run.
Damn,.. Speed Demon, it just looks 'right', sitting still and at speed, the design seems perfect for purpose.
That’s great video ! Thanks for sharing! These angles from inside are epic!

By far the best coverage yet of salt racing, Awesome
Turbinator II is such a crazy car! To think that a wheel-driven car can drive over 500mph is just insane!
Wow Mark you are Back. I used to buy lots of your DVDs back in 2009 and the early years.
Cool video Mark. I like the long shots when it all goes black and white sort of.

Thank you Mark, Tim and Slimer .this would have been great to watch at the drive-in, but it's fun watching at home in my Speedo lol

Hell Nascar runs 200 mph
And your point is...?

I love nhra - amazing machines & drivers. That doesn't take away from this competition, on a radically diferent surface, with differnt goals.
