    In my 2019 Sportster 48 Special, there where cats inside the mufflers before the baffles. I didn't cut out the baffles as in the video, I just ran a cup saw on an extension thru the muffler. Wham Bam thank you Mam. sound Great!

      @flatroc1 nice idea! I wana do the same for my 2020 sportster 48. I want to also use an extender with a 1 inch drill saw and make a hole in the baffle. Question bro .... did u lose back pressure or lose any performance with this easy/cheap mod? Have you had any issues in the 1 year or you would recommend this for others? Thanks a mil !

    Hi Chadd, thank you so very much for your great advice! You are a gentleman ~ sharing all these with others online. Wish I could buy you a case of beer or something. I guess we will go ahead ~ drill it (1 3/4") and pull out the baffle and see if there is that catalytics converter inside. And then start it to see how she runs. The worst will be we will have to put the damn thing back inside the pipe and secure it. Thanks much! Peter M.

      I believe your baffles are either riveted or screwed in place, look behind or on the bike side of your pipes and look for rivets or screws. These will be whats holding them in place. If not, then I'm lost

    So I decides to try the poke/drill a hole thing first to see if the effect was loud enough. There were already holes in the metal plate on the baffle. I went to widen it and the welds on that plate broke. The plate fell right out. It sounds way louder and pretty awesome. The baffled are still welded in. Since that plate is the same circumference as the baffle, would make a difference to remove it?

    Hi Chadd, thanks for the quick reply! You're the best. If you could please spare me for a few more questions. Will the baffle come out as "easily" as the one me and my friends took out on my other 2005 883? I understand there is some catalyst thingy attached to the new pipe, CORRECT? will that make a difference, more difficult? So, we will have to "remap" this new 2013, correct? Or can we try running it first or will it hurt the engine as it runs much leaner? Thanks so much ! Peter M

    Thanks a lot for this vid, brother. I recently bought an '05 883R (black) with 4g on the mileage, mint, for 3k. I HATE the sound compared to my old '72shovel night train custom so the baffles are coming out, I'm throwing some shorter rear shocks on, breezer bars and maybe a different air intake. Your thoughts on a good performance, non cumbersome, air setup?

    Well mapping is when the dealer or a certified mechanic hooks the bikes computer up to a device that changes the fuel/air mixture (mapping) for optimum performance. usually costs about $150. Personally i don't think it is needed unless you have an aftermarket air filter as well.

    I have a 2012 sportster xl1200 custom and got slip-ons and the Harley shop told me I was fine but if I were to straight pipe it /remove the baffles I would need a fuel programmer. Because it will burn the valves. I now have a heavy breather with rush slip-ons and a screaming eagle race programmer and gained 20hp 15ftlb torque and about 10 mpg. I would recommend the programmer if you don't want to put unnecessary money into your engine. Ps fuel injected need back pressure to run correctly

    The issue with both burnt valves and low end torque is that, because the exhaust has better flow, the engine is now getting more air. If they have this, along with other mods, they could be running too lean causing both of those issues.

    great video, thanks... Just did this on my 2016 Iron 883. - had to do differently because of the taper of the pipe, the inside baffles matched the taper, so we had to cut off the pipe at the big part before the taper at the back... sounds AMAZING... but.... I am super concerned about it running too lean, has the stock air cleaner, but was advised not to ride it like this as it'll lean it out and make it run way hot and burn it up.... do you have any insight or thoughts on this?

    • @etmiller87

      fix the fuel to air ratio by jetting if carbureted (I'm not familiar with Harley fuel delivery) or get over ℅ injectors if fuel injected. only way to fix that problem.

    • @gostrydr
      @gostrydr 8 лет назад +1

      +Bill Larkin you can get a fuel controller at any of the aftermaket places. They go from simple plug and play, to you can change the fuel map in 100 rpm increments. That is the best way to do it. Newer EFI Harleys come from the factory way lean to begin with due to EPA BS, so it's best to get a fuel controller anyways.

    • @cvp_studios

    I have a buddy with the 100th aniversary edition 883, he doesn't have the $ for all the aftermarket stuff but HATES how quiet the bike is. Its his first and he wants that sound. Any effects of performance or longterm damage concerns before we do this?
    P.S. thank you to you and all the others who serve.

    • @northminibikes
      @northminibikes  9 лет назад

      Well, here's the skinny... It will sound better after doing this...you will lose a little low end torque. And she might pop a few times here and there. But "eventually" he will want to pay the $150 and get the engine "mapped" (they adjust the fuel/air mixture) Taking the baffles out like in this video will make the engine run hotter (but not too much) I ran mine like this for 2 years with no issues.

    Well it seems that the new harleys have a catalytic converter in the slip ons...I bought a new street bob recently and because of the converter cutting out the baffles is no longer an option. If you were to possibly get an electricians auger bit and just went to town boring the hell out of them, it might work. But this video was on a 2011 iron.

    Thanks for the real way to remove the baffle. Other Dudes are using long drill bits,

    I just bough a new HD sportster 48, 2017 model.
    I want to remove the baffles from the stock pipes.
    Does anyone knows and help me if this action will create any problems to my HD.
    Do i need to do anything else after removing the baffles or would the removal be enough.
    Thanks

      You should get the computer remapped. But a '17 probably has the cats in the slip ons, which is very hard to get out. I would recommend a set of cheap slip ons instead. You can install some torque cones if you don't want to re map.

    I've got a 2000 Sportster an it has the two pipes that turn into one muffler. Is it the same concept with it?

      You would have to look into the slip ons, but most models past 2012 have the cats inside the slip ons, I hear you can get them out at great effort, and heard it's just better to buy a slip on with no cat.

    I have a 2009 1200 sportster, I want more noise, trying to figure out getting rid of the baffles, I’ve heard that hurts your low-end torque, and can mess up your pistons, you have to adjust the fuel flow?

      Yes and yes, after this or adding slip ons, you should remap the ecu

      Hey, remap the ECU once? Or do I need a fuel flow regulator or something...………Thanks

      +Hector Delgado it should, but you will want a fuel controller because it will run lean. Newer Harleys cone from the factory really lean due to EPA BS anyways.
