The Nigerian striker was in impressive form as Arsenal comprehensively beat a Milan side which featured the likes of Christian Vieiri and Cafu.
A Nwankwo Kanu hat-trick and goal from Robert Pires gave Arsenal Legends a 4-1 win over Milan Glorie in a charity match at Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners attempted to start the match with 12 men when Nigerian striker Kanu didn’t realise he had been named as a substitute, but the 40-year-old made up for his mistake when he scored a header from Emmanuel Petit’s cross on 27 minutes, before Milan’s Christian Vieri equalised with a scrappy effort five minutes before the break.
Kanu scored a second on 72 minutes before Pires got in on the act just a day after playing at the Wembley Cup, while Vieri netted a late consolation for Milan when he rebounded in a penalty which was well saved by David Seaman.
Highlights included Martin Keown begging Arsene Wenger to bring him on throughout the match and Nigel Winterburn squaring up to Paolo Di Canio in a mock incident of when the Italian confronted a referee against Sheffield Wednesday in September 1998.
Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg and Kolo Toure all featured for the home side while Wenger and Fabio Capello took charge of the respective squads in a match which is expected to raise £1 million for the Arsenal Foundation’s mission to build pitches for children in London, Jordan and Somalia
Arsenal Legends: Jens Lehmann, David Seaman, Martin Keown, Marc Overmars, Ray Parlour, Emmanuel Petit, Pascal Cygan, Gilberto, Nigel Winterburn, Kolo Toure, Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg, Sylvain Wiltord, Anders Limpar, Gilles Grimandi and Nwankwo Kanu.
AC Milan Glories: Christian Abbiati, Dida, Cafu, Paolo Maldini, Demetrio Albertini, Alessandro Costacurta, Paolo Di Canio, Edgar Davids, Marcel Desailly, Daniele Massaro, Marco Simone, Angelo Carbone, Dario Simic, Giuseppe Favalli, Kakhaber Kaladze, Zvonimir Boban, Massimo Ambrosini, Stefano Eranio, Giuseppe Pancaro, Ibrahim Ba, Serginho and Christian Vieri

Babayaro, babangida, oliseh, kanu all african legends
God bless you
We were lucky that we have seen the 90s and the early millennium. After 2008 football passed away unfortanely. The new generation only witness ronaldo and messi. Our time, every club had fantastic players. Im missing that time :(
that's really true. even with Real Madrid's hoarding of stars (the galacticos), the top clubs still had at least one of those great players. today, there aren't even enough great players to go around.
@@kayvaldo today there are football schools. Football is now a kind of education. Before, the players worked hard to upgrade to their levels. And ofcourse the rol of money in this time. The players are making money to much. So the effort is decreasing too.
I stopped caring about football after 2012 or so. I casually watch highlights.
M
Well said
He was one of the most technically gifted footballers of our time.
Who
He surely was. There is no way to take the ball from Kanu!
U understand football
Yes...and more perfect finishing than okocha...
@@jessicaboateng8918 Kanu you twat!
I'm not a football fan, but I remember playing fifa street A LOT back in the days, and there was that player called Nwankwo Kanu... a tall player with excellent ball control, which I always wanted to score goals with. Ever since I always adored this player. Not really into football, but I kind of respect this guy, a Nigerian legend.
King Kanu !!! Unmatchable. He made football so easy.
I'm a United fan and I must say this arsenal team in the early 2000 was a team to beat. They were so good and matches in Highbury always gives me goosebumps.
Drake Zakra yeah man, got to agree with ya. No offence but football nowadays are blinded with money. Used to be played with loyalty, passion and pride. It’s very sad to see how football has changed throughout the years
Nice one
United always made me nervous to be honest
Africa should be thankful of this two soccer legends, nwankwo n okocha. We r proud of them. African athletic skill respect just rested upon their accomplishments in soccer. history. Otherwise no African Athlete oversees is recognized without them today. They open up doors for youths that had interest in playing oversees no matter how good or horrible any star from Africa is.
Kanu and Okacha were among the group of African legends but they didbt open the door to European football lol. There were many before them. In fact Abedi is still the first and only African with world best to his name.
@@emmanuel.n8458Roger Milla was the first African to enter Europe football, and highly successful as well
I became an arsenal fan because of my mom, and it just breaks my heart when she talks about d glory of arsenal back in the days.
Class has no age
Kanu was so talented, still better than present lazy Nigerian players
Best comment ever
The one now only collecting money and showing off their dancing step on the field, yeye players
You present lazy Nigeria youths
Hahahah lazy nigeria youths
Papilo! One of the most intelligent and technically gifted players I was privileged to watch. Love the guy to bits.
Your choice of word is 1 TRIILION PERCENT SPOT ON BRO!!!
Intelligent is the word i've always used for him....till now, i have not seen any other footballer match his intelligence, and this makes his technical ability stand out....higy exceptionally INTELLIGENT player....most rely on skill and techniques and other abilities.....this man even till now just oozes inteligence when it comes to football.
I wish he can apply it to coaching......the great Papillo!! The greatest!!
Papilo, I know say 1 day, u go make us proud

@Ben Ben taribu west, Sunday olise.. the whole 98 team had players that were playing in top teams all across Europe
My favourite is Ahmed Musa
Kanu put a big smile on Wenger face like the good old days
Cold footballer, could play the game at walking pace. Arsenal fans will never forget
What a great player Kanu & he still plays fantastic football.
Proper baller. In his early days at Arsenal he was putting defenders on the floor with ease. KANUUUUUU!!!! ❤️
Even at 40 years old. Kanu is miles better than Nketiah
Kanu score's a better penalty than early 20's professional footballers. Fabulous!!
Some legends were made. ...Nwankwo Kanu was born. ...surely he qualifies among Africa's GOAT. ....
Kanu meu segundo maior ídolo mundial depois de Rivaldo. 2 lendas .
Our people used to say that an elderly man is never age in a dance he or she knows how to dance very well 😀😀
That must be DELTA or igbo speaking region
The Brazilian goalkeeper Dida knows Kanu too well 😂, he will never forget Kanu in his life, watch Atlanta 96 Brazil - Nigeria 😂
You are right guy

Kan u believe it?yes i kan
Wenger looks as happy as I’ve ever seen him like it’s 2002 again
How couldnt he.. he is enjoying a magical legend! Just chills here.
He left Arsenal.
Yeah that's the joy of a father that is proud of his son
@@bakaweiner6956 😂😂😂
Kanu is 40 at this point of time.. but Zlatan is still playing in Serie A at 39 and top scorer at the moment.. respect to both legends..
Age respects zlatan
Heart injury made kanu retire early
Kanu shouldn't even supposed to be playing....its a miracle he played that long with his heart conditions
A heart condition cut his career short. Even in his final years, he was playing with quality you don't usually expect after 2 heart surgeries.
Lol, Kanu is easily 50+ in this vid.
seeing Wenger at Emirates stadium makes me cry. Arsenal fan boy since 2004, now almost 30
Almost 20*
Kanu nwankwo is my favorite star. I love him
I bet Dida still hunted by the two goals Kanu scored against Brazil at the 96 Olympic semifinal... 😂 poor Dida.
true...those goals would cause any goalkeeper sleepless nights
kay valdo and to face the same nightmare again, 20 years later... l hope the guy don’t suffer PTSD! 😆
@@Lemon-yf1cv lolz
Was it Dida or Tafarel? I guess it was Tafarel not Dida.
Oluwaseun Adeleye Dida was the one in goal for Brazil at the ‘96 Olympic semifinal in Atlanta.
A legend is always legend.
Did I hear 40yrs old? Can you imagine, and someone is just 34 and he will not just allow us rest.
Lol
Legend of the legendary in football
I rate Kanu at the same level with African football greats
He's literally one of them
He didn't score enough goals really tbh
@@billybobjenkins2855 Kanu was never the same again after the Heart bypass surgery

Name any one of the so called African great that is better than kanu technically
Kanu and Jay Jay are legends in the history of African
The whole of African players were great legends but awhite man never wanted them to be seen ma friend
les années passent tellement vite que je me dis ils sont rendus des légendes et des souvenirs.respect à tous ces joueurs 🤩
Kanu my best African player ever , people called me Kanu when I was younger playing soccer cos Am really tall and skillful.
Very talented footballer, there was Okocha in him Yekini and Finidi also Ikpeba in him
Tahira Abdul oliseh
A comment of an indepth analytical perception. Sagacious!
@@ekeneokeke8244 I loved that super Eagles team, though am Not NIgerian i once lost my shoes in the Stadium watching those men....upto now i don't understand why they couldn't lift the World cup for us the fans! i always believed they 'Never want to coz it was not a priority for them'....They showed they could go for it and do it (if they want to) against Spain.....May be they could have done it for the late Gen.Sanni Abacha if if he was alive @ 98 world cup(he was the only one could push them to the limit then i.e Olympics) .. Legendary Team
Dida looking at kanu like damn Atlanta 1996 nightmare.
Note that he didn't celebrate any of the goals and even feigned injury on 2nd. Inter Milan was his former club in the same city AC Milan hails from.
Suarez can learn one or two from him
Kanu Papilo Nwankwo he has all his life played Football with ease that watching him you wonder if his going to last 20 minutes on the field. Beginning from his childhood days when he played football on the street of Owerri during the Accada days
Football always looked fun to him, easily going past players, but looking like he's playing in the park
This Arsenal team would destroy the 2021 squad by miles
Kanu running 50 yards...at 40
More than his whole career
As if Atlanta 96 wasn't enough, must King Kanu continue to torment Dida? 😅
Always look like he's on slow mo, but covering lot of grounds, his sleeky body movements, his deft touches and finishing were beauties to behold. What a legend! 👏
Kanu is a fantastic footballer and grand personality.....be bless Papilo.
Even Dida wont forget. Legends
It was a privilege to watch Kanu play for club and country. What a talent, what a grace
One of my very first idols... he is tall and technically impressive on his prime.
Good to see hot new prospect Kanu 18 years old bright future ahead ...
Kanu can play better than the current squad. Call him back.
The goat we know
Kanu scored a bace against Dida in 1996. 20 years later he's scoring a hat-trick. 🐐things
Best player of his time
I love kanu
I think Arsenal can now sign Kanu.
kanu makes soccer look easy
Kanu was comfortably playing premier league football at 40 lol
Who else sees many similarities between Nwankwo Kanu and Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor?
Ade was more like a villan whereas kanu is a Saint
Lord Claude GoonerTV right bro
Only the height
C’est un excellent joueur que jais la chance de voir il été très bn sur le terrain
Kanu was alleged to have faked his age but it seems he's a rear case like Benjamin Button.... He look younger in my eyes..
Real Talk when how?
@@chrisoghenetegamaloney5799 Kanu look better now , can't you remember his face when he was allegedly 25 ?
He was looking 45, now he still look 45...
@Gossip Heart That was back in the day. The new guys look VERY young. Even younger than European players.
Did you see them in the recent youth tournaments. They look much younger than everyone else. Also now we have concrete evidence showing the youth of players like Iheanacho.
and lastly, MRI (which isn't entirely accurate, but largely accurate), has made it very difficult to age cheat. I would say the likes of Ndidi, Iheanacho, Osimhen etc. are DEFINITELY young.
It was the generation of Kanu, Obafemi Martins etc that were much older. Yes it WAS a big issue, but it isn't really an issue NOW. Even if a player age cheats, it might be by months or a year.
I have been a huge fan of Nwanku Kanu ever since and I am still a fan.
KANU is a legend
Legends of the noblest industry - Football ⚽. Love you all.
That hattrick can't have gone down well with Milan fans.... He used to play for Inter.... I bet when he eventually left for Arsenal, Milan thought they'd seen the last of him.... How wrong they were! 😝
lolz
Very wrong they were
What goes around sure do comes around I bet u..
It would be nice to have some sorta competitions for retired footballers. Something like champions league, competitive but nostalgic. It will produce another form of football entertainment for the fans
Very respectable football player super eagle of Nigeria
And easportsfifa won't add him as a legend Kanu is King !
Old is Good

Before Kanu kick off the penalty Dida knew it's a goal. Kanu is a nightmare to Dida.
This Arsenal golden team is still better than the current Tottenham first eleven. 😂
Beautiful
I'd rather watch this Arsenal than the current side anyday 👍
He is a hero
1:09 ... 'Kanu, he has run about 50 yards with the ball, he never really could do that). Lol.
