I used to be a prof at Wisconsin and now am at USC. I probably shouldn't say this, but to me, Camp Randell dominates the Coliseum as a college football venue.

I grew up in Wisconsin but I've also been to the Coliseum (and my sister went to USC during undergrad, Wisconsin for law school); Camp Randall is DRAMATICALLY better than the Coliseum. And I actually think the Rose Bowl is much better than the Coliseum. Yes, the Coliseum has the columns, it's a cool stadium, but Camp Randall is much better.

Camp Randall now seats 75k following the recent renovation, yes that’s down from 80k but still by no means small. Hell that’s bigger then the average new NFL stadium these days, and it even took all the way up till 2010 for Lambeau to surpass it as the biggest stadium in the state.

I wouldn’t say there’s only two other good teams in the big 10 other than OSU. You have Wisconsin, Michigan State a lot of years, granted they both just change coaches, but usually pretty good teams especially when they have a lot of seniors. Then you have the teams that are good only when they have a lot of seniors on them, Minnesota, Iowa and if Nebraska can ever find the right coach they can be in the Wisconsin Michigan state spot, possibly competing with Ohio State, Michigan & Penn State. Maryland has potential now you add UCLA, USC, Washington, and Oregon makes it even better.

The Big Ten has the #1, 2, & 3 largest capacity stadiums for college football, but after that, there’s a HUGE gap in stadium capacities for the fourth largest stadium in the Big Ten. It kinda sums up the Big Ten in football. Three really good teams and everyone else is mediocre at best with some absolutely awful teams at the bottom.
Then you have the SEC which has the #4, 5, 6, 8, & 9 largest college stadiums in terms of capacity. In total, there are seven SEC stadiums that are larger than the fourth largest Big Ten stadium, Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium.
4/14 SEC stadiums exceed 100,000 seats
3/14 Big Ten stadiums exceed 100,000 seats.
5/14 SEC stadiums exceed 90,000 seats
3/14 Big Ten stadiums exceed 90,000 seats.
7/14 SEC stadiums exceed 80,000 seats.
4/14 Big Ten stadiums exceed 80,000 seats.
9/14 SEC stadiums exceed 70,000 seats.
7/14 Big Ten stadiums exceed 70,000 seats.
13/14 SEC stadiums exceed 60,000 seats.

When it comes to BIG football, I want minimalism, just football, I don't want SoFi Stadium amenities or comfort. I want rabid fans, not those complaining about the Wi-Fi, sitting on hard benches, but spending most of the time standing, engrossed in the action on the field. The more "old school" it is, the better for me. Had some of the best times of my life, freezing on November days in Ohio Stadium. If you want the experience to be like your living room, stay home!

    • @MrSheckstr
      @MrSheckstr Год назад

Im not saying i agree with him but i can understand the bias. Upper decks tend to offer a dramatic sub standard experience compared to the rest of the stadium, often ruining the sight lines of the back end of the lower deck seats and the concourse (if open air) and they often look like an asymmetrical after thought even when they were part of the design from the beginning

As a Terps fan, I can’t disagree about how annoying the layout is. Our stadium is the result of someone getting too cute with a design just for the sake of being different. It’s never going to get changed because of how many structures are near it, making it too expensive to renovate. If that wasn’t an issue, it would be clear to just finish creating the lower bowl, add another Jumbotron to it, and add another upper deck to make the stadium look normal.

I think there are three obvious tiers 1-6, 7-10, and 11-14. Maryland could ascend to the middle group for maybe even Rutgers if they somehow got back to going 8-4 every year like they did from 05-14. Ditto for Nebraska getting up to the top tier with some strong seasons, just look at that volleyball crowd. I personally like Minnesota as the best of the middle group but the city setting is just way different for tailgating. Agree with the comments on the interior though. And also think Michigan probably deserves a higher spot than OSU, but don't tell my neighbors.

by ESPN's Reece Davis during their successful stint during 2001-2003. It is actually a great place to see a game, affordable family fun. Compared to the price of the various other Washington, DC area events, which the other B1G members just do not have to compete with. Luckily, our basketball stadium is top tier.

If you're talking about gameday atmosphere at each stadium then it's too hard to pick the best in the Big10. But if you're talking about quality of the stadium and aspects like line of sight or amenities or ease of movement in the concourse area, then Huntington Bank is easily the best in the big10. It's a phenomenal place in that regard.

Even though Michigan Stadium is not the loudest, it has a really unique vibe. The fact that it has minimal parking is a feature, not a bug.
    1. It is just south of the main part of campus/downtown, so walking in from the north, there is a huge "party parade" like atmosphere before and after games.
    2. Just south of the stadium, instead of a parking lot full of cars, it is a golf course full of tailgaters. Love the reuse of that space 6-7 times per year. Really cool tailgating with trees and grass all around.
    3. If you go west or east, it is all neighborhoods. Has a "Wrigley" (or European Soccer) kind of feel to it someone in from those directions. Also, Some of us have our "secret spot" to park a 1/2 mile away.
One other thing about Michigan Stadium, there is space in the concourse to just hang out on the grass. Even though it holds up to 114K, If you want to just take a break on the North side on the hill, you can. Feels great to be there and hear the crowd and PA system in the background.

The fact that there’s little to no parking within a kilometer of the stadium and maybe further, is not a feature. That’s called awful planning & designing.
Plus, single tier large stadiums result in atrocious views for fans that are near the top of the stadium. You’re just so far away at that point, which is why that design has been dead for nearly a century. Tickets at the top of Michigan’s stadium are probably some of the worst views of any football stadium in this country. It’s not solely because it has the largest capacities, Penn State, Ohio State, A&M, LSU, Tennessee, & Alabama all have stadiums that exceed 100,000 and the top of the big house has the worst view possible. Meanwhile, the other six stadiums seem to offer great viewing of the game with none coming close to how far away everything is when at Michigan.

Not completely true about Huntington having nothing unique. The names of all 87 Minnesota counties are cast in giant stones around the exterior. There is a Minnesota Tribal Nations Plaza outside the main entrance as well.
The end-zones in Ohio Stadium are full of students, including a 225-piece brass band, and it’s absolutely deafening.
