Water front hotel = Clarence hotel spent some of my misfound youth there in the late 80's as a 18 year old
Customs love that building i knew the owners there Paul and Tony Jubb brothers that also had the Theatre royal Hotel prior to Customs (great blokes)
not sure who has it now
in the eighties the publican or staff would open the keg shute on new years eve and sell liquar to the passer by's to help save time going in and buying beer to cause havoc around the docks on new years eve
telegraph wow that was a rough pub in its day just about every Saturday night there was punch ups but i believe today its done up good and a place for a quite brew
the place ya talking about was actually a credit union as i had a bank account there as well as my family (just cant remember the name of the credit union. i also believe above it became a night club before shutting down
franklin Wharf was a flash ritzy place and no nightclub when i was groing up and what i really rember it was just dead space doing nothing ..
jack greenes cant say i havebeen there but next time i am in hobart will make a effort to try them.
Shippys this was a regular spott my mum and dad would take us growing up mum and myself would always go for the Tassie scollops , they was brilliant , but i have only been there as a young kid never had a beer there
gosh missed a few good pubs though going errol flynn park way like St ives (yes i know no longer a pub (intestinging enough they brewed beer called the dogbolter and the redback and they did 1 other beer at St ives ( this was where all the cool kids hung out )
Dr Syntax this pub has had a reputation (My mum thinks its an honest pub) but back in the eighties it was a very rough pub and was known for it , but these days the pub is quite mellow.
however though you guys brought back some history of my wild days of drinker in ye old tasmania. old sydney hotel Bathurst street by memory what a pub old historic and had charm.
but 1 bar and my mum would have a fit if she new i had a drink there was the old red lion hotel( no longer or heard off ) the red lion had some good bands but it was a rough place with big fights most saturdays.
1 thing i used to love though on night on he town wether it was the old round house or at a pub or night club was heading to the hotdog joints either in Maquarie Street or in Argle street oppisite the hospital and getting a double dalmation or hot jam donut on the way home.
anyway not trying to take away your mini pub crawl but they did bring back memories .
i tell you this weekend we just had GABS ( great Aussie beer Show) Fox Fridays Tassie brewer once again tried there beers i cant get enough of there good beers and wasa goto place at the festival....
thankyou for sharing love ya work into these honest and fun viewing guys
