I chose this song for my wife's funeral, played as she was taken out of the church. I still can't listen to it without crying. Beautiful words, beautifully sung ❤❤❤
my old man used to sing this when he was drunk, only time we saw him happy, the war turned a happy young man into a broken wreck...like so many others...god bless em all......miss you dad still my hero.
my darling ,now long departed grandma sang this to me many years ago on my 16th birthday,im turned 50 now and ill never forget that day God Bless my lovely gran Jane kilvington she will still be singing in heaven, xxx
A song that says the words you cant say but can put your arms around them and mean it ..i miss my beautifal brother and mum and dad rip untill we meet again xxx
I can't add much to the wonderful stories below, but for my part I'll simply revel in the glorious timelessness of this beautiful song - if you don't shed a tear, you can't have a heart.
love this song.my dad used to play the fureys and this resonates as I first got with my now wife when she was sweet.to quote another all the words I could say.but were still together 32 years later.
A young Irish lady died yesterday. Ashling Murphy was her name. Gone before her time.. So sad for everyone in Ireland right now. The whole nation is thinking about you Together we stand... Rip.. this was her favourite song..
I was only 16 and he was 19 when I seriously began courting Patrick and now we have been married for 40 years and counting. We actually met when I was 14 and he 17 one summer, broke up and got back together two years later. We both knew we were made for one another and we were right - this song encapsulates those lovely early years. It is my favourite song and this video brings those old days flooding back. Thankyou to Furey Brothers and Davey Arthur for giving this song to the world
Wow....finally found it. been trying to find this tune for years. heard it as a kid and ive had it in my head since not knowing who sang or what it was called. my mrs rip me to bits for the kinda soppy love song/ballads. this im afraid is why....what a tune..
unbelievably good. a wonderful old song sung by many. perry como, al jolson, joseph locke, to name but a small few. well done the fureys and davy for helping keep it alive.
This is relaxing and comforting music. Now at 65 and a 1/2 divorced , 16 yr old daughter living with me, sadly not her scene. Hopefully she will be able to come back to it and have memories .
Reminds me of the springtime of life, all hopes and dreams awaiting to be realised, like the buds on plants awaiting to flower. And for balance: For many a flower is born to blush unseen and waste it's sweetness on the desert air.
What a beautiful it still lingers in my heart when I first heard it over 40 years ago when my young brother to help my baby son to sleep he was 6 months old at the time
She was 15, I thought she was 18, I was 24. We've never been apart & just had our 61st we wedding anniversary I weep a little as i hear this beautiful song. I feel so sorry for those who are unable to stay together.
Bless you both...It is heart lifting to hear that there is still room in this "instant throw it away world" for love and commitment may you live for many more years with the comfort of each other.
That is beautiful, Cecil. I am very happy you met your love. This song reminds me of my mother. She married my dad and they have opposite personalities, but they respect and love each other. I'm Irish, in Ireland! Congratulations, on your wedding anniversary boy! Wishing you lot's of love. Can you say a prayer Cecil, that I will meet my true love? God bless to you and your wife. xx
Same here I was 15 he 19. He knew how old I was because I spent a lot of time at his mother's babysitting etc. He told me he would marry me one day even before we started dating. He proposed after I finished school four weeks after my 16 th birthday we married. That was 52 years ago on list at valentine's day, He's all I've ever needed or wanted. Folk say marrying young dooms your life. Well we both finished the education, both attended uni both did double degrees. I later returned to do a second set of doubles. Both had excellent careers in our differing fields. Both reached highest levels possible. I actually lectured internationally. We raised three children first born 5 years after we married much to the dismay of the finger counters. We're retired now and totally enjoying the fact that we are once again living alone. You know what I'd do it all again tomorrow even knowing what lay ahead.
It's been 53+ years since my late Beloved and I started going steady, in the jargon of the time. I miss her every day. This song, like Ringsend Rose, always makes me think of her. Thank you.
