Jesse Härkönen It costs as much a brand new mid-range car. You’ll also have to imagine that he would have bought at tested, via trial and error, many components before deciding on the final setup.
For anyone interested... according to the Sheldon Brown site.. a 60 up front with a 17 in the back (middle cog on an 11-28) at 90 rpm is just shy of 25 mph. 100 rpms is just shy of 28 mph.
Yes my optimal cadence is around 85-90 . One of my plans is to try and break my 50mile record of 1:34:43 so I might need the extra gear for this. I also plan on doing a few team relays so will change the gearing on the front for this. That's the great part about etap.
Why would you run a cassette like that instead of 12-25? I bet the closer gaps give you a lot of benefit. Maybe a bigger ring with 14-28 ultegra junior cassette, yet closer ratios. EDCO makes 14-25 too, miche makes custom... Have you tried shorter crankarms too? Oh, and covering bolts with tapes is uci illegal AFAIK
Large chainring and a more central cog on the rear cassette keeps the chain in line and improves efficiency. In the UK Time Trials are run under the rules of the CTT (national governing body) not UCI rules.
what is the max rpms a human can do. Me and my friend were at the gym and were fooling around on a stationary bike machine. We both got around 166 rpm, on level 8 intensity. Just wondering if this translates to cycling. Thanks!
I know, that's not my point. The point is if his most used cog is 17 he has 2t gap both ways, and probably doesn't even use the smallest cog. A 12-25 cassette adds both 16 and 18 cog, so there's better cadence tuning, and the 17t cog will be in the exact same place.

The new Shimano TT shifters actually use synchro shift which means all the buttons control both derailleurs. The front shifts when it needs to. Shifters wise it works like a one by system. The right hand switches to a harder gear and the left to a lower gear both on the aero bars and the base bar.
Sasu N this has already been answered below. The software can be customised for di2. They have programmed it so the shifters on the poles change the rear mech, and the shifters on the bullhorns change the front mech

At the other end of the spectrum 60-28 is roughly equivalent to 34-16, 36-17 or 39-18. Definitely not something you'd use on 10% and above gradients 😱
wonje han well, I'm not a junior but never felt the need to use more than 53-12 except in some descent with few corners... Running after pushing such a high gear must be a sight to see :)

Because it allows him to use cogs in the middle of the cassette (e.g., 60x17) instead of the smallest cogs on the cassette (e.g., 53x11). This keeps the chain running in a straight line (when viewed from the top) and also means the chain does not have to make a tight turn around an 11-tooth cog (when viewed from the side). So it actually reduces drive-train friction in two ways!
