The fortress wall was also destroyed during the war the government was able to restore it exactly like original because they had '의궤' which is the blue print of the fortress. The blue print contained every single information including the tools, blue print of the tools, number and size of the rocks, workers, and painting. At first, UNESCO refused to put Hwaseong fortress for UNESCO because they thought it was missing the originality due to restoration. The mayor of the Suwon city at that time packed up the blue prints and flew to Europe to prove it was restored using the original blue print. UNESCO approved the fortress and the blue print, 의궤, to be UNESCO

Some of those views are stunning! Another really nice place to add to the ever growing list! I like the idea of a 'backup palace', although I'd really just be happy with one!

I think most governments these days have backup locations where they could retreat during wars and disasters! The palace itself was actually fairly modest, nothing like the grand European palaces of the same era.
And yeah the views were great - this was probably our favourite fortress out of the half-dozen we saw in Korea.

Absolutely! A backup palace sounds awesome, but having just one would still be a dream. Those views really make you want to explore more places like that, right? Can't wait to hear about your adventures!

Totally get that! A 'backup palace' sounds like a fun concept, but honestly, I'd just settle for any place with views like that. These spots are seriously amazing!

this was at first disqualified as UNESCO heritage but was redeemed later after the mayor of the city showed an 18th century blueprint that depicted every square meter of the structure which was used to restore the fortress, so none of the structures there are imagined or different from the original form
