Wow its like bloomin Christmas! Sharpe, great series...i introduced a couple of US Army officers to Sharpe on VHS in Sarajevo in 1990s, they were very impressed! I remember the old airfix continental soldiers of the War of independence...i had them for years and then painted them 20 yrs later and sold them when I was on the move with the job.

Enjoy your videos and love the Boston accent.

Hello! I just discovered Bob. I knew he lived in my area due to his accent, which is beautiful unadulterated Eastern Mass speak. Some of which I also have..having been born here ..however I lived GA when a kid and it smoothed out some.
Anywho...I am enjoying this hobby immensely. I bought some Britain's LTD AWI swoppets back in 80. The last couple of years have been building up collection. Over 200 now with militia dragoons.
I also have some metal Britain's. One figure is none other than a flag bearer of the 23rd REGt R.W.F He is painted (as are all my metal figs) and bears the 23rds regimental standard. I am going to paint the grenadiers I have with the 23rd facings.
I am well aware that the fusils bearskin is a smaller shape than the full grenadier headgear..hope you would overlook this.
Essentially, I am going to represent the 23rd in miniature circa 1775. I have some regular hatmen and will also add the light infantry( appropriately stationed on the left against the grens on the right.
I will have to purchase other swoppets to paint up in other regimental colors although not in as many figs.
So I hope I am honoring the 23rd with respect as the center of my collection on Britain's side.
Forgive my wordiness...but it is a great fun hobby and a joy to share. It is 1771 now as tensions rise between Parliamentary ministers and the people of His Majesty G.R.III British colonies!

I like Sharpe and Hornblower, I'm semi-retired too my wargaming figures I gave to one of my sons everything from ancient Rome to WW2. He collected the more modern figures. I bought heaps of Italiari sets when a model shop was closing down. Mostly from the Crimean war. We have these sets are well made. I like semiretirment you can buy extra models although I am a railway modeler but I can appreciate your interests, enjoyed this video.

Good review..One extra comment: I have a sizeable collection of the AWI 1/72 figures, infantry, cavalry, artillery.. I always liked the Italeri figs. with the exception of 6060 set, American Infantry.. The Plastic Soldier Review stated "This set was quite a surprise when we opened it, and not a pleasant one either. Although the sculpting is reasonable for the most part some of the design decisions are very hard to understand, and the poor quality of the mould is inexcusable from a company such as Italeri. It is hard to imagine sizable wargaming units being built up using the figures in this set, and surely everyone wants the basics - standing firing, advancing at the walk, etc. - so diorama builders are also likely to be disappointed."
I agree 100%.. I decided to use IMEX set 512, British Redcoats, and painted them as Continental Regulars.
For American Militia I used IMEX set 511, George Washington's Army..
For Artillery, I used the Imex British (set 555) and Imex American (set 554) artillery sets.. The cannons are very small, almost 15mm size, but cannons from other 1/72 Napoleonic sets could be substituted with some imagination.
For Continental Cavalry, I used the Italeri British Cavalry (set 6044) painted as Continental Dragoons..
Hope this helps anyone starting out in the 1/72 AWI scale.

Good on you, you've worked damn hard your whole life and deserve to kick back and enjoy gaming! As to which scale he should choose, I'd say 28mm if doing AWI as there are some wonderful figures out there sculpted by the Perry twins. I'm particularly thinking of one command set where there's a pooch to run alongside the officer. Must admit I had a stab at doing AWI back in early 1990s using mainly Accurate figures. I had the Guards, the 23rd Fuzileers with heads taken from the drummers, the 33rd, the 71st Highlanders converted from Timpo figures and Von Bose. I also did Light Infantry, grenadiers, artillery and Tareltons Legion who were converted from Marx 7th Cavalry. My Rebels were things like the 1st Maryland and so in, plus LOTs of militia and so on. Never got it finished! (But do we ever??????) oh forgot to add that those figures were 54mm...

re the 1/72 nice to see the plastic horse already mounted on a base, some of the airfix stuff where you have to put a separate horse and base together can be problematic. The hard plastic is certainly welcome.

    • @robertgagne2388
      @robertgagne2388  7 лет назад +1

:) Hi Norman, I think your are spot on regarding the hard plastic, and the mounted horses (pre-based) is a plus.

If you get on Plastic Soldier Review you can put in the name Italeri and then the individual box numbers and see how they rate the sets on historical accuracy and molds.

    Thanks Bob,
I wanted this set badly but unfortunately i had in the past picked up all the figs in separate boxes.
Love that box art though, the americans are terrific figs i agree but look up the plastic soldier review who describe the faces on them as the ugliest ever committed to plastic!
Am now starting perry/warlord A.W.I metal and mainly plastic, really got the buzz and am going all out on this one,
thanks Bob for doing this, cold beer on the way!!!

John Wayne Everett italeri is great, their horses in particular are superb! I made the mistake of buying some Mars napoleonics because they looked like Italeri, but they were awful figures, small, loads of flash. The 95th rifles set are good.

:) Cool, it is an awesome period to look into, if you like small unit type action this would be a great period to start in.

My only qualm with what othetrwise is an excellent set, is the same use of plastic colour over all four combatants. If the (then) allied Brits and Americans were cast respectively in red and blue and the Indian and French contingent in tan and white, it would be easier (post sprue removal) to distinguish the French and Americans apart. The American army stood out because it required gluing as their weapons were individually sprued. Wanting to use these in a skirmish scenario however, due to rheumatism no longer able to pain figures in their respective colurs, four tins of spray paint will have to do the trick.

Those 172nd France are some of my favorite figures Italeri make some of the best and some of the worst figures out there. Bob check out Imex they make American militia British Redcoats and AWI artillery. Look them up on plastic soldier review The Gribeauval guns from Esci,HaT or Zevezda will work also.
