I decided to build a Tamya kit of a M46 Patton tank fashioned after the German King Tigers in the Warner Brothers Movie Battle of the Bulge. The Tank is a M46 Patton and painted up as Col Hessler's R-01 Command Tank. I am also working on an American Chaffee Light Tank fashioned after Sgt. Guffy's "Bargain Basement" (A M4 Sherman in the Movie) Chaffee tank.

Great memories thank you 😊
Where are you mate?? We miss you
Working a lot, I need to get some videos up.
Great to see you posting again, hope all is well. One thing to say that wargaming has been dying for one reason or another since the 80s 40+ yrs on were still here with multiple conventions across a number of countries, don't think we need to worry yet. About the age thing, as younglings we game for about 5ish years then discover wine, woman and song, higher education, jobs, starting a family. I've lost count of the posts saying started when a young lad, now getting my youngling into it or the younglings have moved on picking it back up stories, and we'll be wargaming old duffers for upto 20+ yrs so your always going to see more old folk then younguns cause were gamer longer as oldun than we did as younguns, imo.
:) so true, wine woman song the best distractions.
Hey Bob, Glad to see you back online! I bought the Memoir '44 basic game system along with the add on, Russians and British, etc, additional game boards, e.g. desert, snow.. I even painted the figures and tanks, artillery, equipment (yes, the one style piece is barbed wire), etc.. The game pieces are nice. As you mentioned, I also bought several boxes of Airfix figures, painted 'em up to substitute for machine gunners, engineers, etc.. I bought it several years ago and after painting only played once, solo!! I have a closet from ceiling to floor and a garage full of boxes of wargaming 'stuff' that I have painted and never used! I must ashamedly admit it's an obsession for me! It's a good game and lot of fun, but no one for me to play against... sniff sniff...poor me.. ha ha!! It's a simple game along the lines of Battle Cry, which I also have.. that I have played a few games by twisting my 20+ year old daughter's arm a many years ago. The number of scenarios in these game systems really makes the re-play value very good! I think you will enjoy playing it. Good Book, looks great.. I like the Bill Board songs.. I remember them all, as I am an old codger now. And yes, M109 155mm SPA. Good to see you back again! Be well my friend and don't work TOO hard!
:) Thanks bruce, way too much work, I actually had to request my own day off tonight too get out of night firing exercises and post poned it two weeks ahead. I was just dog tired, last thing I wanted to do is drive two hours tothe range and then do night shooting. The issue a lot of us have now is finding people we can actually wargame with. I hate to even think it but I think we are a dying breed.
@@robertgagne2388 I watch the videos of the gaming conventions and ~90% of the attendees are senior citizens it seems. Some in their 50's/60's but very few 'kids.' Now when I want to play a 'war game', I play computer games so I have an opponent. I work on solo war games off and on, and have been somewhat successful for the Horse and Musket periods using basic rules from the Battle Cry/C&C/Black Powder rule sets and modifying using cards and dice to determine the strategy of my 'opponent'.. Sometimes I lose too! Be well my friend!
Nice to see you Bob, Hope you're well, Regards, Terry.
Hello Terry!! Hope all is well with the Family, I need to see what you have been up too so after I answer all the post I will visit. :)
It's a great game with lots of expansions I think you'll enjoy it
I didnt realize how many expasions there are with this game :) the air war looks friggan cool!!!
I ordered "Tank Trap" from some magazine or comic book as a kid; early seventies. The "tanks actually exploding" sucked me in. You can imagine my little kid sadness when I discovered the tanks didn't actually explode with fire as was depicted in the advertisement. The explosion was a rubber band triggered separation of the tank into two halves. I really felt ripped off. But thanks for the memories. I didn't imagine it.
Had this around 1973.The box art is EPIC. The figures and tanks were by Roco Minitanks. Aurora never got into 1/72 armor, they just reboxed Airfix and Esci. Roco was in HO 1/87 scale, but as kids we weren't rivet counters, lol. Panthers never served in North Africa, but who cares? It was a fun set. I've never seen the Sgt. Troy/Christopher George figure outside of this set.
I had all 6 games when I was a kid. Loved them. Helen of toy ads in my comic books. Made by Giant plastics. They were very well made for tiny plastic soldiers in the early 1970’s.
Had 2 of these in the 70s... I just didn't like the yellow parts. It never made sense to me. 🙄
Where are you Bob ??? I hope all is well
Im doing well, however i have been working double shifts for the past couple of months, the time i have off im either with the wife or sleeping my days away.
Great collection. Happy wife = Happy life 👍
So true :)
Edge of my seat...
🤣
This scenario is turning into a major battle!
Great stuff!
Really enjoying this scenario, hang in there Guardsmen!
Awesome stuff Bob!
I've played this scenario myself in 2nd, great fun! Also, love the multi-game system linked campaign!
Cool basing technique.
Great collection!
Looking good!
Your collection never ceases to amaze, Bob!
Love your real man bunker. Jersey or New York? A hillbilly from Kentucky loves your content. More!
Keep it coming.
That was awesome!
Thanks :)
Hi Bob. Hope you are OK ❤️
Ahh reminds me of the old 'Herman Sherman"
Sir you are an incredible resource for the toy soldier collector, hobbyist and war gamer. Incredible knowledge with a wealth of experience in the subjects and always ready to consult or answer questions. Thank you sir.
:) Thank You for your kind words :)
Sir that is an awesome preparation of the Le Haye Sainte farm house. This is the first time i have seen this video. What did you do to create floors in the farm house buildings to enable you to put figures in the upstairs. Again great video with a great breadth of knowledge of the hobby. Many thanks.
I used thin model plasticard for the flooring, its white plastic card I traced the inside of the farm house units and then scored and cut the flooring and primed the top half white, that would be the floor you would be looking at once you take the roofing off.
Beautiful job. Thank you so much for your reply, it is very helpful.
I have that Lost In Space kit as well as a larger scale. Love all the soldiers. Im jealous.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
I love these sets.
I just built the USS Grissom model from that kit. The decades were an absolute nightmare to put on. Good luck.
Bob, watching your videos brings back all those good memories of toy soldier playsets. Thks a lot.
:) Thanks john, i do like pulling out the old plastic toy sets.
Sad to hear to hear you are struggling, hang in there,I purchased an Army Battleground Maneuvers box 1957 empty , info was very helpful.🙂🧯
Did you enjoy the 4th of July celebrations? I'm from Europe 🇪🇺 I have both civil war and revolution war soldiers in my collection.
Hopefully feeling better soon Bob, interesting vid, think tanks look like M103’s maybe 😊
Best wishes Bob, get well, Regards, Terry.
Good research Bob. By the way the Airfix tank is a Centurion not a Churchill. They were just too late to see action in WW2 but did very well in Korea and in Israel. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Thanks Ed , I really wasnt on point with that one :)
Sorry that you are not feeling well, been wondering what you have been up to lately. Happy 4th of July Bob, and hope you and your family have a great day today. Hope you recover from your illness soon. Be well.
THanks bruce., both the old lady and I got hit pretty bad, her worse than I. At least I was able to get around she was bedridden for several days. The research for the video was interesting, I learned that T Cohn (Superior) put out a lot more very cool military and western toy sets than I thought. Some of those sets are really hard to find these days, The Marine Base and the Naval Base. The Battle Ground set (The answer to Marx's Battle GRound Set) is extremely tough to find intact. They used the smaller tanks and the Monogram/Marx knock offs in green and grey, some even have the Lido Soldiers in the green and grey as well. I wanted to throw a bit more info like this into the video but my head was killing me and that nasal drip thing was just too much to deal with. Happy 4rth :)
@@robertgagne2388 Thanks for the additional info. I had not heard of the T COHN sets.. maybe it was after my time as a kid. I had the Marx BG set along with many of a the other Marx sets, like the ACW, ARW, even a Zorro set with Don Diego and dozens of Mexican soldiers.. All brings back great memories. Hope you and wife are over whatever you had, sounds very nasty. Wishing you and the family good health and happiness on this 4th of July.
Can I ask where you are able to get these models from nowadays? They must be collectors items now. Great video by the way!! I still have some of my Monogram armor models from the 70's. I've been building dioramas, on and off, ever since I discovered Shep Paine's work on the Monogram boxes. I'm just getting back into it (again) and I would LOVE to get my hands on some of these models. I'll start my research now. Any advice you have is greatly appreciated!
Hello Mike, The search begins :) I feel your pain. Ebay was me' go to place for these old out of print Monogram Models. I grew up with the white box series, so i decided that there is where I would begin. Ebay is your best shot for these. Another thing you should look for are Monogram Catalogues from the 1970's - 1980s (usually on ebay) they have some really great photos of the armor Series Plus look for the Monogram Models book band by Thomas Graham (Amazon) there are several editions out. Take your time buying these, they can get expensive. There are two (2) model currently in production be Revell that you can find at Hobby Lobby, and some other chain stores as well as better stocked hobby shops we are talking about the German Panzer Kampfwagon 4, and the USA M48 Patton.
Been using that Napoleon's Campaigns book, for any years.
It is a pretty cool book. :)
I also made a frontier for out of popsicle sticks when i was a kid.
Thanks Bob... fun stuff.. enjoyed the sound track of the movie..one of my favorite parts!
Sorry Bob, this is an M47 "Patton" Tank. Build in the Cold War. Not a Tiger😮
LMAO I know!!! :) I just played a word game to see what would happen.
We agree ? an U.S tank used as Tiger/ panther : it's not O.K !! hopefully todays movies are more serious....take care
LOL have you seen movies in the past 10 years? When they are not garbage (see fast n furious) they are CGI. These were at least real tanks.
Interesting idea. I never thought of making a model of the movie tank. BTW, the barrel is a bit bent to the left.
That's what she said :)
This movie, along with a model produced around the same time, is responsible for my lifelong affection for the M47 tank ( the M46 turret was very similar to the M26 Pershing's, I believe what you are displaying is actually the M47) facing off against Chafee tanks in the battle scenes, it looked monstrous and unbeatable, actual Tigers and Tiger IIs even more so of course,, but these just looked beautiful in that color scheme, loved them
Great stuff Bob, not the best movie in the world, but still watchable 😊
That's a hell of a deal. I've been trying to get a Civil War Cannonball game set for a long time but it's either not around or very expensive.
