been to Bangkok once, when I wanted to go back, I was called into the immigration office in the airport for reason that I still don't know. So they called me into the office, and asked me to sit there, while the officers were talking to each other, staring at me. When I asked why I was called into the office, they didn't give an answer and kept talking among themselves. Meanwhile I was worried that I would miss my flight. Later when my family followed into the office, the officers looked like they were caught in the act, and laughing nervously and let me go. I still don't know why they did that, but looking at their faces, seemed like they wanted to get bribe or something.
Have you run into Brian from 'New Atlas' he lives in Thailand and is an awesome content creator, mainly about Thailand, China and American interference in just about everything? It would be great to see you both do a live broadcast together discussing the regional issues you both have in common.
The New Atlas banned me from his channel for saying that he should provide evidence for his assertion that US foreign policy toward China is based on racism.
@C1PH3R 1.0 This makes me incredibly happy to hear. I remember when Serpentza actually loved China, then suddenly he got kicked out and went full on fascist, and that's not even a exaggeration, the crap he says and propaganda he makes now is vile.
I am a Singaporean, Chinese race, last year I was in Bangkok and met an extremely rude sales person working in the shoe department at Paragon. At that moment , I thought she must had had an bad day, because Thais are known to be gentle. Now, come to think of it, she must have been a racist.
Thank you Nathan. You made me laugh on your comparison with the RAPTOR. Any way, keep up the good work. Wonder have you meet Brian from the "New Atlas" channel. He lives in Thailand. Like both of you and Brian's channel.

Many countries in Southeast Asia have racial discrimination against Chinese, because most of the ancient Chinese immigrants were concentrated in this area. In ancient times, the local population in these areas was relatively small and did not form a national consciousness, so the attitude towards Chinese immigrants was very friendly at the beginning. It was not until modern times that the local population in this area continued to grow and a sense of nation-state was formed, and Chinese immigrants became a threat in their eyes. In Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar and other countries, anti-Chinese movements of different scales have emerged against Chinese immigrants. This is essentially no different from the current anti-China campaign in the United States. It is entirely out of fear of competition, so they use their numerical advantage to attack Chinese immigrants. While persecuting, they also concocted a theory to make themselves morally upright. Over time, the current deep-rooted discrimination against the Chinese has formed.
Xenophobia in Thailand exists and it can be quite troublesome, especially the prejudice to others. during the interwar Phibun, the Thai fascist dictator imported fascism to Thailand, changed a bunch of stuff to suit his ethos-nationalist view, with the noticeable one being the name from the cool and not ethnocentric "Siam" to "Thailand". He set up a cultural mandate and enforced his law to only limit culture to what he saw as "Thainess” and suppressed others, much to detriment of non-Thai people, especially the Chinese, in some areas, it went badly and led to conflict which is the case with Patani where the locals aren't even recognized as seperated distinct groups so there has been insurgency there. The Chinese immigrants have been in Thailand for a very long time, what made them unique during the feudal times was that they were mainly free labor unlike peasants who are tied to the lands so they had the freedom to choose their jobs and rose in power and influence as the feudal system declined, a lot of present day business people have Chinese descendants. Of course, this didn't sit well with a lot of people, I mean the 6th king even wrote a book titled "Jews of the Orient" but it got to the worst with Phibun’s fascism. I'm Thai so I'm biased as a result but these day, people, at least the ones I know, treat Thai Chinese like other Thais (although most of them are well assimilated). However, I don't have experience enough when it comes to foreigners to really talk about it.
I went to Bangkok a few months ago that was my first trip to Thailand after pandemic. I was in a rush and didn't get a chance to exchange THB at that time before departure, but simply used all my THB left from last trip. I paid in cash for my taxi fare from airport to hotel, as well as my dinner, then I had only 6THB left, which was a very embarassing situation, even though I had more other foreign notes unexchanged. The next day I just asked for 1THB coin from the lobby which plus my 6THB in hand, I would be able to manage a bus ticket to a nearest forex shop. A lobby Thai girl gave me 100THB right away and said I could take metro which is more comfortable to go. The same night after I exchanged THB locally I returned her 200THB for her being quite helpful when I was inneed. I'm sure most of the Thai people especially in the service industry know how to treat their guests well. The more mutual understanding there is, the less bias there would be among people regardless of nationality or races etc.
Well for me as an Asian Chinese, it is already been like a normal things to me if some other foreign people who call me Alien, Kaijin, or Yellow guy whatever. What is my reaction is just give them a smile and do nothing else just ignore them. What we need to do is other people maybe racist to us but as long as we do not racist to the others than that's good enough. Maybe sometime we have to forgive those people who are such racist and such negative mind. They act like this because they didn't know what they did actually is wrong. Forgive them, well this is what the Bible teach me to do as same like Jesus forgive those people who want him death and betrayed him. For me Jesus is a legendary not only as a God and my lord, his mercy for all of us and his kindness, none people can do like him before and even today. And I love him so much. 😢🙏
That "Raptor" thing was obviously a joke, Masseuse was telling Nathan to "Laap-Taa" which is to "close your eyes" in Thai, I heard that all the time inside massage parlor and never once felt like they're being racist. Masseuses here like to joke around with their customers, and they don't discriminate there's always going to be some small talks involved.
I am not sure if Nathan is being totally serious here! Getting someones age wrong does not make them a racist! As for the raptor comment? Just making conversation with their broken English and probably did not intend it as an insult. I have not been to Thailand since the pandemic started so things could have changed but I remember Thais being friendly and polite. Good luck with the rainy season Nathan!
You are totally right, indeed! :) Thanks! :) Yea, Nathan was trolling/kidding with us. The lady was telling Nathan in Thai saying 【หลับตา】 (close your eyes) ! 🤣🤣🤣 Nathan got us and was being funny today🥳🥳🥳! Love his channel, and love you guys too! Cheers!
Hi Nathan, 👍 good to hear from you again ❤... What? the Thai masseur said you are "rapper" !! 😂😂😂 maybe by physical perception it could be because of those tattoos on your slender nice body! 😊 I visit Thailand occasionally, generally most (not all) of the Thais are nice & friendly people! Sure, the Thai Tourism Minstry would take note of your comments to improve its tourism systems! 😊

Haha! Nice joke. I'm sure you know Nathan is trolling/kidding. The lady was telling Nathan in Thai saying 【หลับตา】 (close your eyes) ! But yes, that's extremely passive aggressive of her 🤣🤣🤣 You got me too, just as Nathan did! 🥳🥳🥳! Love your joke and his! You guys are funny! 😁😁😁
I heard that there have financial crisis in Thailand (Due to loans & mortgages within regions, including credit card overdraft) that would cause the collapse if it persists 🤔
I am from HK and in Thailand now. I am not defending anyone, just want to say the point of view after I listened your story. For Asian, western people look older in our eyes generally, it’s nothing about racism. It’s a typical thinking here, Asian looks younger than the actual age, opposite of the western. I don’t think they mean to offend you by saying you are old. About the conversation, I think they are just trying their best to use their broken English to make friend with you, be friendly is a part of their service, and what Thai people are. I am sorry that they might try in a wrong way, but be honest, we are in Thailand, isn’t we should speak their language? Because your Thai is broken as you say, so they have to speak broken English with you; why not think otherwise, you speak Thai with them, since you are in Thailand 🇹🇭! Many misunderstandings come from cultural differences. We try to bring our stand to the place we visit. Just my opinion: A perspective from a person born in Hong Kong, Chinese parents from China, grown up in a British education background, and living in Thailand for 13 years.
Indeed! LOL hahaha! Although he was joking/trolling. 😂😂😂 Lap-ta【หลับตา】 (meaning 《close your eyes》in Thai language) !!!!! What a 🦖dinosaur! 🦕 😁😁😁 But I personally prefer the sarcastic RAPTOR (dino) version! That's way more funny! 🤣🤣🤣
Nathan, I don't know... what to comment about your video today.... cause I am really a Chinese who lives in Bangkok, Thailand for more than 5 years... I am working here. For the massage I had a once weird experience, normally I will ask for a Thai massage but I will tell them to focus more on my neck and back, cause Thai massage commonly will massage your whole body, from the legs to your head. What I mean is to only massage my head and neck, and that's what I say "P kaa, please massage more with my head and neck." I think the massager she understands causes obviously she's been doing this job for a time. But that day she ask me back, with a somehow not very friendly accent, "Do you learned massage?" I was like?????? "What do you mean?" I am really confused, confused about her unfriendly accent cause I hardly ever meet Thai people who speak like this in my 5 years here. She repeated, "Do you know/learned massage?" By this time I feel annoyed, cause I NEVER meet someone, especially service people in Thailand speak to customers like that! I feel she's rude! So I use my poor Thai to ask back "Why, why do you ask that?" And I am sure my accent is not friendly at all, then she keeps quiet. This massage shop is very near to my condo, so I always go to this shop, I think some of their massagers already know me like they don't know my name, but they see me more than once a month. Because of this, I tried to remember what does she look like, I don't want her to serve me on my next visit. But after I forget how does she look like, the next time I came with my boyfriend, she serve me again (after I thought back I just realize it was her, the first time she tight her hair but this time she doesn't, so at first I didn't recognize). This time she is kind, like other massagers, and just asks where do you come from, then I closed my eyes, and she keeps quiet. The last time I was thinking she knew that I am Chinese so she treated me like "special", but this time she was really kind, even asking me "Is it pain?" When I use my poor Thai to answer her, she praised my Thai... That's why I feel so confused, cause I feel like it's the person who made me feel offence the last time, but this time she's kind, as kind as other massagers... Then I came the third time, I am pretty sure it was her, cause she had the same hairstyle...I still have a shadow of my first time with her, when I knew she would serve me I tried to ask the shop to change a massager, But it was rush hour no other women massagers are available. At the start, I feel like "If you dare to say something offensive, I will fight back! Today I even take a man with me!" But nothing has happened... I just thought too much. I'm not sure if she recognizes me or not, anyway, she just serves me as the other massager, polite with smiling. After this time, I feel like maybe the first time she asked me"Do you learned massage" might be a misunderstanding... it's like, in the Thai language if Thai people ask you do you learn something it's not polite, but her English is not very fluent, and she cannot express herself very well in English, then she said it, then I feel offence. Cause by the next two times I don't feel any unfriendly with her... It might just be a culture misread. The word you heard from the massager, maybe she's using the Thai way to pronounce the English word, if you don't understand, just forget it. I've been here for more than 5 years, I can speak a little bit of Thai, and I've always taken the public bus, and van, as a foreigner here I can say that I've contacted more local Thai people, especially the "lower class people" I feel sorry for your unfriendly experience, but somehow I feel it might not be a racist issue, it was just because of the gap between languages... Anyway, I really wish you have some nice days in Thailand. I love it here, I know it's not home, but for me, Thailand is like my second home. All the best!
Same thing happened to me when I was in North Georgia. A white store owner started to make stupid comments to me. She’s doing it with a smile like I’m dumb and wouldn’t know that she’s being racists. I asked her for the restroom and she says oh you don’t want to use restroom here. Try next door the line is long and I see there’s no freaking line at all. So before I left I said it must be hard being white
The taxi drivers there are maniacs. They speed, disobey traffic rules and take reckless risks. BTW Nathan, the lady who gave you a foot massage may be a ladyboy laptor.
Haters be thinking he's on the run But rest assured Nathan stay # 1 The hotpot king is a young thing but he ain't no rapper But our boy stay fiercer than a Velociraptor 🎶
Hello Nathan. In my opinion , the massager who had broken English communication’s skill ,may be trying to make you enjoy during the relaxing period while doing foot massage. Even though she is not very good comedian but doing her best for your relaxing time. Her ideas about joke storytelling might destroyed your wonderful time but she didn’t aim the racism. In Thailand, we don’t have any racism issues to foreigners especially the tourists. You can ask her directly that you enjoy the silence mode during foot massage hours.
At least years ago in Asia, when someone is bald, it's age 40-50. When someone sees a shaved head, maybe that's the assumption. No idea where the second reference comes from...
Mi friend is Singapore Chinese,he gone to thailand and experiece nothing of this there,on the contrary, the thai people were very polite and accomodating
哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈Nathan, happy to see you again,
"Ah, the classic 'I had one bad experience in a foreign country, so now I'm an expert on their entire culture and people' mentality. It's amazing how quickly someone can switch from defending one country to bashing another based on a single interaction. Keep up the narrow-mindedness, it's really helping to bridge cultural gaps."
Nathan what was the point of this video??? Was it to test out youtube's algorithm or something? I found the video not serious at all, and some what funny, got a couple of chuckles out of me. But at the same time I don't see why you would waste time to upload this video, since it addresses no points at all like your usual videos.
Only a 50 year old guy gets a foot massage. We also know why you were really in a Thai Massage parlor. Nathan looks 50 and has the maturity of a young teenager who gets his feelings hurt.
Hey Mr Rich, it's just a cultural misunderstanding. 😂 Actually, they all joke this way including their own people. Crown a nickname is pretty common and will be your brand once you accept it as is. I know some of us foreigners may feel offended, but racist? Nah! 😆 Not sure if you're aware Hong Kong locals also share similar behavior toward those who aren't Hong Kong locals, but just an attitude instead of prejudice.
The reference of thinking you are 50 isn't racism, it's Asian stereotype. Asians don't usually have shaved head hair style. It's usually assumed to be bald. It's also rare for Asians to be bald unless pass age of 50.
I’m not sure about regular Thai people, but the stall vendors at markets and tourists attractions are pretty friendly towards Chinese people in my experience. Some of them also learned Mandarin Chinese to converse with Chinese tourists from China,Malaysia Singapore etc.
That's why you didn't know that he was telling a joke. Because in Asia, of all countries, no one would ever think or even contemplate that Thais are racists.
To be fair, every country, every race in the world have racist people. It's just the volume of people being racist matters. If you encounter racists often, then it could be a problem.
Nathan, some in the service industries like making inappropriate jokes. My tour guide (female) always does it, and yes, it sometimes makes my friends very UNcomfortable. Things like small penises, sex orientation.
Some Old people are anti US because of iraqi war and some fakes new/conspiracy (USA are behind some political movement in Thailand) Some Young people are anti chinese because people are generalize what they saw from the media (some bad behavior of chinese tourist/ chinese that come to do business in thailand) and also how media portray the CCP in negative light.
a 50 year old velociraptor is an achievement of the species
good point though
Nicely done 👏✌️😉
You don't look 50 at all Nathan. Those people are just mean. I always though you look 60.
😄😄😄
🤣
Asians tend to look younger in their fifties. It's not racism. They have a different view of what someone in their fifties might look like.
Maybe the masseur said 15
It's the gray hairs and the face that makes him look old.

Your guess about bribery may be right. Thai officials, I mean some of them, are not reliable.
Good to know.
Almost every Chinese tourist was charged for extra fees for passing the Custom... we are walking wallets in their eyes😢

Been to Thailand 5 times, had a blast ( not for sex). The folks are so interesting and polite and absolutely happy to share their culture.
@user-lk7cv8vg7r lol exactly.
Well, Thailand is famous for that so it's understandable he would feel the need to mention it.
Stay safe Nathan, You look better. Wish You Best.
Nathan , the good thing you looks a lot of more healthy right now, keep enjoying your life and do not do too much videos which make you stressed
50 years old?! There goes her tip.
its probably the bald head
Lol. I'm guessing she just learned of that word and is practicing that word as much as she can.

I found it to be a funny joke, but a lot of people are taking it too seriously. Are they being too uptight, or am I just too laid-back?😅
Nope quite clearly parody. I wonder if those who are easily tricked by this are the kind who easily fall for propaganda

It's like she was being passive aggressive
Haha! 😁😁😁
Good to have you back, been a long time.
Nathan, you are a comedian. 😂
Sorry to hear that Mr. Raptor. You are defnitely 200 million year old instead of 50.
The words she said "lap-ta" means eye closing or close your eyes lol
I heard that there have financial crisis in Thailand (Due to loans & mortgages within regions, including credit card overdraft) that would cause the collapse if it persists 🤔
Nathan has this sense of humor that only Chinese people would understand.
@elektrotek4032 What was the joke here? Whats "lapta"?
I don't think Nathan's being serious in this video. He's just being silly.
It's just parody
@@marxistsaw8849 Yes it is. I am Chinese but I would look down to Western, Japanese and Filipinos.
Nice to see you back, you 50 rapper raptor.
Indeed!
She needs to eat from the garbage all the customer stay away from that place. She will get her karma
多謝!
Haters be thinking he's on the run
But rest assured Nathan stay # 1
The hotpot king is a young thing but he ain't no rapper
But our boy stay fiercer than a Velociraptor 🎶
You made my day
Most places I go to in Bangkok the girls say I am a handsome man even though I am 84 years old
Maybe they have granddad issues
😂😂😂Cute Nathan. ❤
Love your humor.
Love you long time Nathan Rich 😂😂😂
❤❤❤from NY
That deadpan 😂
😂😂😂 nice one nathan ...
哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈Nathan, happy to see you again,
totally understand you. i ve experienced the same thing.
Hiya Bud, just wondering if we could catch up?
"Ah, the classic 'I had one bad experience in a foreign country, so now I'm an expert on their entire culture and people' mentality. It's amazing how quickly someone can switch from defending one country to bashing another based on a single interaction. Keep up the narrow-mindedness, it's really helping to bridge cultural gaps."
He sounds like a Thai version of Serpentza, really ironic
Nathan what was the point of this video??? Was it to test out youtube's algorithm or something? I found the video not serious at all, and some what funny, got a couple of chuckles out of me. But at the same time I don't see why you would waste time to upload this video, since it addresses no points at all like your usual videos.
I think she means the singer of the Thai band.
It's called the Raptors There are two members and one of them might look like you. "The Raptor"
hilarious😄😄😄
wow,孙中山tatoo~~~
I love how Nathan's sarcasm went over some people's heads in the comments
Only a 50 year old guy gets a foot massage. We also know why you were really in a Thai Massage parlor. Nathan looks 50 and has the maturity of a young teenager who gets his feelings hurt.
Ahaha 😂 it doesn't matter what they said. You look amazing. Always enjoy your content Tq
Hahahaha, You need some facial massage rather than a foot massage to look younger.😄
I was adopted. I wasn't racist before, but they I've been treated and the racist remarks that have been thrown at me made me a bit racist myself
As a Laotian. I would of tell her to open her "Thai-nee Aye". Baa-Bye! LOL
I live in Thailand. People say "hello" to me all the time!!! IN ENGLISH.....damn racists....
Mind you, a Thai girl told me I was fat. I'm a size 10/12 in UK size
I’m not sure about regular Thai people, but the stall vendors at markets and tourists attractions are pretty friendly towards Chinese people in my experience. Some of them also learned Mandarin Chinese to converse with Chinese tourists from China,Malaysia Singapore etc.
They literally have to be friendly, it's their money at stake.
They love America white tourists, Chinese tourists love spending money, that’s all
When Chinese make up 40% of tourists they know what happens if you upset your biggest customer.
@@retro5014 yea my point exactly, they’re friendly, that doesn’t change regardless of their motives , i’d still appreciate it nonetheless
@@davidlazarus67 yea my point exactly, they’re friendly, that doesn’t change regardless of their motives , i’d still appreciate it nonetheless
Nathan, you don’t look 50, but you don’t look 20 either 😅
That's why you didn't know that he was telling a joke. Because in Asia, of all countries, no one would ever think or even contemplate that Thais are racists.
He looks 60, because he is bald.
Lol .. I never know you have a sense of humor like this. I was laughing... Thank you for making me laugh!!! 😂🤣
To be fair, every country, every race in the world have racist people. It's just the volume of people being racist matters. If you encounter racists often, then it could be a problem.
I'm just happy that even though I also have a dent in my skull, I was still able to pick up that he was joking.
For the first time I feel the humorous of Nathan. He is tooo serious in past videos. Seems Thailand life is very relaxing for him.
It's not about being ricest, it just the way they explain what they thinks
Nathan, some in the service industries like making inappropriate jokes. My tour guide (female) always does it, and yes, it sometimes makes my friends very UNcomfortable. Things like small penises, sex orientation.
I live in thailand, i am 40% thai, and im 60% British
Nathan! I was really worried for you! Being discriminated while getting a foot massage!
As a thai, sometime I think that we thai people are too friendly and being misunderstood and even looked down upon by some foreigner!
ใช่หรอวะงี้ต้องอบรมให้เคลียดเหมือนคนรัสเซียแล้วมั้งถ้าเฟนลี่ก็ไม่ชอบกัน😅
I am laughing hard. I like the sarcasm.
Nathan, Can u talk about the Fukushima contaminated water?
He got 66* on his leg. No wonder he thought they were racist. They not racist. They just don’t want demons around them
Looking good today!
A question to people who have lived in Thailand: Are there more anti-American racists in Thailand, or anti-Chinese racists?
Some Old people are anti US because of iraqi war and some fakes new/conspiracy (USA are behind some political movement in Thailand)
Some Young people are anti chinese because people are generalize what they saw from the media (some bad behavior of chinese tourist/ chinese that come to do business in thailand) and also how media portray the CCP in negative light.
haha that was hilarious. So did you move to Thailand?
