How would you react if your essay got accepted into Harvard University?
With the top applicants from every high school applying to the best schools in the country, it's important to ace your college application. The aim of this video is to show you Harvard application essays got that in so you get an idea of what Harvard is looking for.
The essay I read in this video is NOT the common app essay. Instead, it’s the Harvard supplemental essay that is “optional.” It’s stated as optional but if you actually want to get in, it’s not.
The essay prompt was “you may wish to include an additional essay if you feel that the college application forms do no provide sufficient opportunity to convey important information about yourself or your accomplishments. You may write on a topic of your choice.”

Would she have written it on her own, or is it a possibility then some elderly or a professional could have aided her with the "epigrammatic" style she went for. Not that i doubt her(ofc she has been accepted to harvard) acuity but seems too unreal and to the point for a senior year student to pull off. Anyway, Kudos to her, that essay was really profound and well-written.

I think I’m too silly to write a Harvard essay 😐
As a Korean American, I feel this so much too. I used to get frustrated at how my parents never said “I love you” when I heard my Caucasian friend’s parents say it so easily - saying “I love you” at the end of phone calls or adding “I love you” when saying good bye for even short hiatus from each other. I used to think my family was broken. Then I started to notice things. My parents showed love through action. They worked several jobs so that my sisters and I would never go without. My mother always made delicious home cooked meals, even after long hours at her jobs. My dad would get our car started way before I got in so that it was warm and comfortable in the winters. My sisters did my hair for school even when it cut into their morning time. My parents saved and saved so that we could all have money for college and then later helped us with down payment on our homes. My family is not rich at all. I realized all these sacrifices and actions were love.
I read the 5 love languages book years later and realized that my family and probably a lot of other Asian families show love through acts of service, which to me is the greatest love of them all. Words are beautiful but meaningless without action behind them.
This got me to really sit down and have a different view of my parents, thank you

Ahh, such tender caring, and even harder in situations to make children stronger to face difficulties of life
Then, there comes papa , ohh the strictness, nowdays they are a tad soft too but that love through action can be seen in their hardwork, Sweat and even worries
If they are not very well-off and can't fulfill the demands of the child, they show strictness on outside, saying "it is not worth, a waste", and at that time child thinks how bad are his/her parents, who can't even bring a simple thing he/she asked for, and gets sad or stubborn
But later in life he will discover the pain of a parent who can't satisfy the simple need of his/her child
Not very proficient in English, so can't describe in a more better manner
Rip. I'm Korean American but my parents had a hard life when they were young so we say I love you so often that it's a instinctual response to everything.
You should always let the people you love know you love them.
Not just through action but through words.
Words are weapons, words are hugs, words can inspire. Words carry power,
use them to help people, use them to express your appreciation for others.

Well, I can tell you that you absolutely can. I love math and physics, but I write as well. I love reading classics and poetry but my real weakness and only true love is physics. What I'm saying is that STEM focused students can have artistic talent. I would, if you allow me, formulate the question as follows.

Mm yeah for us Chinese people (and probably many other Asian cultures), we’re more of doers and express love that way. I’ve seen people write about Asian family love before, but that one was very creative and the way it’s written gets to the heart of the issue and/or the comparison people tend to make with western family love. We all love our families, but express it in different ways. Just because we have the phrase 我愛你 in Chinese doesn’t mean we’re always going to use it directly. It’s interesting how that phrase makes people question your motivations though. 那你觉得爱是什么呢？

Just to prove essays r bs, many share the same feelings but not many can write like that, and yet, Asians r categorized as “boring”. Why should admission officers assume the quality of people based on essays? Not all r going to be English major.

Furthermore, they are supposed to write an essay if they feel like the application procedure doesn't let them showcase their capabilities and identity sufficiently and she wrote one about love. And got accepted. We will reach a point when we will be sending photos of us in a warzone to get accepted into Ivy League Unis at some point.

Am I the only one who thinks her getting selected to study in a University partly thanks to that essay is fucking ridiculous? I mean, unless she applied for English or Literature or something similar, this is laughable. That girl just lowkey begged them to accept her application and they did. Imagine being someone less fortunate than her in life, with a bigger motivation to study in Harvard and the skills to do it, but with minimal talent in writing. As if there is an actual need to explain to the most elitist Uni on the planet why you want to study there, anyway.

@@mit4539 Because writing is used in almost every profession and even when acquiring jobs. Having a decent level of skill in writing could help you a lot and I think Harvard is preparing students for that.
