We live in Scarborough and also have a motorhome , what the council has done is shameful and will have a massive impact on local businesses in the town ! We've just walked around marine drive 1/09/24 and can't help but notice that there are about 15 tents set up on the plateau above the parking bays where they were have fires and bbqs ! These are the people that need banning not the motorhomes and campervans !! We should arrange a huge motorhome get together and gridlock the whole town !
Totally totally agree with what you both are saying! The council have not got the facts and figures correct! They need to get back on this and come to some agreement so us campers can get back to parking there. Typical council. Big wigs taking all the money into their pockets and full of corruption!
It was getting to a point where locals who lived there could not park there car to have a walk on the beach. It is for cars to park not a massive campsite 🤣
I live on the seafront southside and all the litter is from all the boy racers that are constantly speeding up and down the road and chucking crap everywhere!! But for some reason the council or the police just don’t care about them doing whatever they want til 1am in the morning. But let’s just pick on the motor homes and campervans. It’s a joke. And I happen to know certain people complained with ties to the council so that’s why it went through so quickly!!
I've just replied to someone else with this! People will still go for the day and have BBQs and leave litter. Vans with just a bed can still stay overnight without a toilet as they are not classed as a motor-caravan. People in cars will still discard their MacDonalds cartons on the road. People will still set up their tents on the grass overnight without a toilet. How does an overnight ban on motorhomes (with toilets) help these problems? And let's be clear - the council in their report couldn't identify whether some campervans were motor-caravans or not. So you'll still get vans parked up overnight with less facilities than motorhomes. The notorious boy racers will be back taking up those places. Thanks for watching and commenting from Scarborough. Would be interested to know about those 'ties' privately... Cheers Andrew
in Australia the Motorhomes etc when parking over night or longer are encoutaged to put their receipts in a local box of what they have spent in that area so the local council can find out how much they have spent locally and apparently it is welcomed by all good idea don’t you agree
I'm a local resident why on earth they have banned these is beyond me. All these people are spending money in the town, cafes, pubs, shops, is there any wonder seaside towns are struggling. Lets hope it gets over turned in 18 months before we put the final nail in the coffin. Why not put a designated car park for camper vans next to Peasholm? Very short sighted by north Yorkshire council😡
Putting in designated bays somewhere is another option not explored. Scarborough is a big seaside tourist area. Some provision needs to be made. It's not just Scarborough though, it's England and Wales in general. It's so far behind reality. Scotland (outside of the NC500) and Europe embraced it and isn't an issue. Let's hope it gets reviewed by someone who cares about Scarborough on the council. Thanks for taking time to watch and comment.
new subscriber here. Very informative, I can understand a bit as to why they have done the ban with vans staying on a forever basis , I agree instead of banning they should have put rules in place so nobody stays more than 48 hrs.
Thanks for watching. We think the council took the easy way out of a situation they could've handled better. 57 locals out of 60,000 residents isn't enough weight in our opinion.

The people who are running business's should get together and demand it reversed as it will have a detrimental effect on their lively hood. 🇬🇧
Wirral council have done the same on the prom .vilifying campervan owner putting hight restricted barriers up on coastal car parks .Not a breath of conciliation with anyone. Just a burning hatred for any one driving a van .Some of the vans where 100k rigs ? Any body driving this kind of machine has money to spend !! Chasing the cash out of a so called leisure peninsula absolute bunch of fools labour councillors actually working against the population.
Thanks for watching. We've been all around the UK in the last 16 months and stayed at over a 100 places. Some councils are accommodating, others look like they're under pressure from campsite owners rather than locals. And yes we agree people with expensive motorhomes have money to spend. We need to take a look at what Spain did last year and define 'camping' first. That makes it more easily enforceable and would stop some of the problems. The ,local councils who can't be bothered and put a ban in place need to look at what other councils do that manage it properly. However our community need to learn that places like this WILL be lost if we keep taking advantage.
My wife and I used to park on marine drive pre Covid and the boy racers used to drive up and down park up eat there takeways throw the rubbish out the windows and drive off. Not all of them but a good 30%
We see it everywhere we go. It's not just the boy racers, it's lots of people in cars and even walking with Costa cups & McD's boxes. Skegness beach the other weekend was a disgrace. As motorhomers, most of us have toilets and bins onboard. We've seen first hand a man just chucking takeaway stuff out the window of his while on the phone. So sad. Thanks for taking time to comment.
I’m from Hull and all year round my partner and I regularly spend the day and night in Scarborough for a bit of a shindig spending a fortune in the pubs of the town. The next day we always buy a cooked breaky on the sea front and fish n chips later. Not to mention waffles, crab and donuts we consume guaranteed because it’s virtually free parking at night apart from the £8 quid we pay for parking the next day to enjoy our fish n chips etc. NUTS. They will loose thousands of peoples business as they have just lost mine and we always spent over £100 per visit once a month. Stuff you Scarborough we will take our money elsewhere now. All you had to do was police it properly. Thanks to those 57 buffoons who voted for the ban you’re now loosing potentially 130 vans plus spending £100 per day in season could loose you 2-3or4 million in revenue to local businesses as we come for the day and night as part of the Scarborough experience.
Yes it does seem like a very small minority have influenced the council. Enjoy while you can, there's an email saying 14th October start, the BBC are now saying 21st October start and we've had an email direct from NYC saying they can't give a date...what a shambles! Thanks for watching and taking time to contribute.
The same problem is happening at Skipton were people are sitting in the carpark by there van drinking we will lose such a good parking spot because of such behaviour we have lost so much allready
Whether people like rules or not, they make it a level playing field. At least we wouldn't be left wondering what we can and can't do... Thanks for watching and commenting.
The waste point was put there to stop vans dumping the crap in the road and in the bushes. You should also park within a bay, its part of the parking bylaws. Pay your rates in the borough and you get to have a say. What about the vans parking on the grass, what about the tents its also encouraging. All van sites have a restriction of 6mtrs so fires do not spread. Its not a bloody camp site, go and ask the camp sites what they think.
@@StuartandAndyVanLife Yes We have witnessed first hand how it has been abused, vans set up with awnings out, vans drive onto the grass inside the boulders, im all for people enjoying our sea front but quite a few abuse the situation, bank holidays are bad, vans park sideways taking up 5 spots while cars are running round or finding spots on streets in town and its bad enough as it is. Admitted the winter months are quieter but the parking rules do not change, even though it is free. The restriction is in place now but there are still vans parked over night. Im sure your great guys but you make a mokery of the camp site rules of 6mtrs apart, the rule is to save your lives or property when your gas fire, cooker or bbq set fire to your expensive van, some park virtually together and can only just get out the door. One guy this summer set his solar panel up on the footpath and run his cable over the road. I will repeat a point previously stated, the council put the grey water facility in because people were emptying on the road, this goes straight down the grate and into the sea, only contributing to the poor water quality we suffer and some were emptying in the bushes. This year tents have started appearing in the North bay, 14 the other day because people see it as a camp site and they do not have waste containers. The truth is you cant get an over night stay on a camp site for a tenner with a fantastic sea front view, akso renember your money no longer goes directly to Scarborough it goes to support places like Harrogate. We totally agree with what you're saying and cannot dispute the evidence. The attitude needs to change for sure. If vans are taking up 5 spots why aren't they getting 4 penalty notices? When there's a sign saying no camping and and no BBQs, why isn't anyone doing anything about it? The new ban takes effect on 13th September. But even then how do enforcement officers determine what is a van and what is a campervan when there are so many converts? (Motorhomes are easy to spot). The 6 metre rule should be applied at all times - where does that leave motorhomes and campervans - do we need to pay for three spaces? What is 'camping'? Is it acceptable to get tables and chairs, awnings etc out? Sadly, discarded litter isn't just a problem in Scarborough. It's everywhere we've been. Some people just don't care. I've written to the council three times this week on these subjects and I'm just being passed around departments. No-one wants to take responsibility. Do you think the NYC is taking care of Scarborough as well as SBC did? Having lived and worked in Scarborough and Filey for 14 years, I know what it's like. We're trying to highlight the problem and hopefully try and educate a little bit so that other places aren't lost. My opinion is still that the rules need to be made clear and then they need to be enforced. I'm afraid common sense has been replaced by entitlement. I hope that we can still enjoy Scarborough and improve our footprint so that one day the ban can be lifted. Thank you for taking the time to highlight the issue further and thanks for watching. All this "van life" is nauseating - back in the day, we just used to do it and keep our heads down - now with the internet, everyone is making a big noise online and swamping areas.
And there’s an entitlement too. “I’ve spent x money on my van” So what? That doesn’t entitle you to do whatever you want? Up here in North Wales, a lot of beauty spots get filled up with vans for the whole day rather than cars that typically stay a few hours or half a day. During Covid we had loads of vans rock up and start defecating in bushes and weirdly also in lakes. I don’t get the problem with just going to a campsite and supporting them? We even had people moaning that they had to defecate in the bushes because they weren’t provided with facilities. So you’re not paying, but the locals should build facilities for you so you’re not forced to go in the bushes and/or lake.
