You review is based on today's style cameras. Back in the early 90s it was true innovation compared to the Kodak disc cameras & 110 cameras. And you certainly need the instructions. My ex girlfriend bought me one of these back in 1992. I Loved it, the photos were absolutely BRILLIANT! I Took it everywhere with me & I was a regular nightclubber back then so I've got loads of fantastic photos taken in various clubs in various levels of lighting, strobes, lasers & disco lights! Loads of people used to ask me about it because of the design. Only ever had it in 'auto' mode & every photo came out perfect. They looked even better when I had all the old 35mm film scanned onto disc. Went out to a club with a mate one night, gave a couple of girls a lift home in my Astra GTE 16V. Wedged camera under drivers seat, dropped everyone off & went home. Got up next morning to find my car had been stolen off the drive never to be seen again. I Didn't realise camera had gone until I couldn't find it a few days later then I realised! I Was more upset about not seeing the photos in it than losing the car TBH! Fast forward to now, was browsing ebay & saw one for sale local to me, 'not been used for decades' and only came with its carry case. And still has a roll film inside & I could see it was Kodak ISO 200 which is what my other negs are. Could this be my old camera??? For £40 it was worth a gamble, I will be getting the roll finished & developed next week!
Not sure the correct approach has been taken here. Completely agree it’s a mess of a camera, but something like this simply wouldn’t make it to market now. It’s amazing that something so unique actually made it into production, for better or for worse. I’d say, appreciate the quirkiness, the 90’s, etc. No need to be such a downer about it! Would be interesting to see a Samsung ECX-1 review.
I hear you, though shooting this thing is a painful experience, not helped by the 36c weather we had to shoot in. I am glad they made it though, just to show what they could do. If it was a bit easier to use it would actually be an amazing camera.
hey man! Loved this video! so funny. Ive been doing some research on this camera for one of my own videos, and wondering if i could source this video to use as broll! Its not a review or competing video!
I got one of these in a batch of random used point and shoot cameras for my wedding so that we could have guests shoot film. This is not a good camera by any measure, but it is quirky and was definitely my favorite odd ball of the batch.
Designed by maths nerds who don't need things to be straightforward. I remember feeling about these the same as I do about olympus menus now, fiddly and annoying for ages and then suddenly the brain works out how to do everything. It's a Konica though so you know the image will be nice.
I got one of these as a joke and then fell in love with all the modes 😂 I'm yet to try the elusive 39 multiexposure but I've had a fair crack at 4, 5 & 6 haha Happy to see a JCH vid featuring it!
As a Star Wars fan, I love the look and want to have it on my shelf! As a janitor, I wouldn’t touch that with a ten foot broom! Now, as just me, I’ve got choices. Does the Star Wars fan in me, or the janitor in me win?
I was Gifted this camera for Xmas in 91. I've had some great pictures from this camera over the last 30 years or so. It maybe out of date now in comparison to modern technology but I doubt if half the digital cameras now will still be functional in
This thing looks like some kind of overdramatic pencil sharpener or something. Also to quote @KaiW talking about the Nikon 50mm 1.8d back in the day. "The focus motor sounds like one of those idog robots taking a shit" 😂
It may be weird and wacky, but the shots seem OK to me; exposure is fine, lens renders colours well and the bouncing ball image has some creative merit. It’s not for me, but it’s a fun camera and will get people talking about it. Don’t bin it just yet, Bellamy, as it’s got novelty value!
Nice video, but that Konica won't be in my collection. Question: What is the camera on your desk - the small one just in front of the Nikon rangefinder?
Absolutely love how ugly it is. I'm sure I've seen this in a flea market for $3 over the last 15 years. eBay has zero under $100. Shame, would've loved something this weird in my collection
Thank you for introducing us to this hideous looking camera with an awful design :-) Although the test photos actually look great, although the practice of capturing them was an arduous process. I'll definitely give this one a hard pass.
Every time I watch a video about a camera I have to check its availability and pricing on ebay and this is no exception (even though I won't probably get it, it does sound seem a bit weird. Probably fun and interesting for a few hours then end up being tossed in a box). 200 EUR here in continental Europe. In Japan they are slightly cheaper probably due to the weak Yen (or because they know better, or both...) Nevertheless, thanks for the review!
What’s your problem? The man puts all this effort in to make a cool, funny, interesting video for us to watch for free and you think it’s somehow ok to meet that with an empty, cranky, demanding comment? No one is forcing you to watch this so just keep it moving if you don’t like it.
So you want someone to talk about a camera that uses film without them showing you samples of the results said camera produces? Also - and since you are so interested in the technical side of things - the structure "just ... only" is a tautology and gear as a noun denoting equipment should be singular as it is a case of an implied plural in common parlance.
Fun fact, the lenses and zoom mechanism was used to make the night vision goggles from the original Jurassic park.
Awesome. I didn't know that.
The design screams pure 90s, where designers thought "bulbous" designs meant "futuristic". Look no further than the Apple iMac G3...
About Leica R8 and R9? Haha

Oddly enough, the photos came out nice- especially when you used those features. I’d get it purely off that alone 🤷🏽

Great video as usual. Love the showcase of something so silly.. that I find myself wanting it just to remind myself not to take things too seriously!
That's what we were going for. Cheers

“Masterpiece in awkward design.” Now you made me want it.
ALWAYS enjoy your videos!! such education!! Thnk you.
Just as I searched "Worst Camera Ever", I find this video that was uploaded yesterday. great vid by the way!

Thankfully they made the Konica Hexar RF. One of my favorite cameras I own.
What’s up with that cycling jersey in the background?!? Were those ever for sale?
Hope you make the JCH bike jersey available for sale!

Quirky but nice.
Will you review the Konica Z-UP 80? Somewhat similar but a bit more organized and easier to use than this
Honestly interval timer function on a film P&S is so unheard of I'd consider getting one just for that alone.
It's actually kind of wild, once you push an insane amount of buttons.
Just got one off eBay .Guess it’ll take quite a while to figure out its bells and whistles. Thanks for sharing👍
Hope you enjoy it!
I have about 40 Konicas (about half are variations of the FP and AR lines) and a few compacts, but not this one, it's now my next target!
Careful what you wish for,
I have to say, your video format is a refreshing change of pace from the hipster cookie-cutter norm from other RUclips film camera channels.
Bad camera but gives good results which is what really matters but only in the the right hands.
Bank security systems: I'll take your entire stock!!
Bellamy woke up in the morning and decided peace wasn't an option
the lens on that thing looks surprisingly sharp!
A camera with too many features, and the worst user interface a zoom lens, P&S ever had. Needed more thought!
Could’ve been a movie prop for Spaceballs.
Seems like someone designed it on a dare.
0:18 sounds like my tinder review
Bouncy ball mode is kinda cool 😮❤
I always liked the design, reminded me of the head of a Zaku Mobile Suit from Gundam.
konica really should have just made more big minis
Whoa! When is that cycling jersey going to be available?!
Probably never. They are staff only.
@@japancamerahunter aiight where are the job postings?
What film stock did you use? The dynamic range is horrible hahaha or probably it’s because of the developing process?
almost picked one of these up yesterday in Auction for the DArth Vader-esque memes.
fun fact: Pentax IQZoom 900 also has an Interval shooting mode and ME mode. I've got three of them lol
This thing looks like some kind of overdramatic pencil sharpener or something.
Also to quote @KaiW talking about the Nikon 50mm 1.8d back in the day. "The focus motor sounds like one of those idog robots taking a shit" 😂
it may be ugly, but its far from being the worst

I am not going to bin it, but I will probably give it away. It is a pain to use.
Nice video, but that Konica won't be in my collection. Question: What is the camera on your desk - the small one just in front of the Nikon rangefinder?
That'll be a Sharan Minox Nikon SP
@@japancamerahunter Thank you!
Just bought one for $20

The lens makes up for all the cons
Yeah, it kind of does. Kind of.
Where can I buy fugu film?
nowhere, yet...
Is that Jesse sporting a Genba Kantoku?
good eye. MY Genba Kantoku lol.
@@japancamerahunter Ahh yes it is. For some reason I have a liking on the orange colored ones, even though I already own a grey 35WB.
never heard of that but... it's beautiful :D
WHERE? Can I get the cycling hat you are wearing?
Enterprise coding in camera form.
And I thought the Pentax SF1 was damn ugly.
The worst camera ever takes quite good pictures!!!
put it in the hands of an angry kid, like the design as well as the Konica Z-ups
I would buy it just for the bouncy ball mode.
Mine died and I miss it
lol I unironically love this, I absolutely want one
Thank you for introducing us to this hideous looking camera with an awful design :-) Although the test photos actually look great, although the practice of capturing them was an arduous process. I'll definitely give this one a hard pass.
Actually takes some pretty sweet photos. Sharp, nice colour and the motion shots are very cool! Whodve thought...
It does, it is just such a nightmare to use.
i would guess the Canomatic is worse... ;)
The photos were actually great, but I think that has more to do with you haha
haha thank you. The camera didn't make it easy.
Image quality looks good though!
It does!
Awesome photos. Please take photos and talk about gears only, okay?
Looks like Gantu from L&S
wowowowowow this camera!
You won't say that if you use it...
@@japancamerahunter haha oh I meant it more in a this looks wild haha
I'm not sure what's worse, that featureless camera or that goofy music you keep looping over and over again
Thanks for watching
What's wrong with something fun . . . Its clever!! Nice they actually produced it.

Actually the photos was not that bad tho
