Tim, the London Transport museum building was once a flower market in 1871 as part of the covent garden market back in the day, it ceased being used in 1971, and eventually became the museum in 1980.
i've not been to the new version of this, but i loved the old version, this one sounds even better. the interactive sections were brilliant. as a blind person, getting hands on with the transport was wonderful.
Everytime I go down to London from Edinburgh I pop into the transport museum for the upstairs part of the gift shop for the model buses. I love buses and could spend a whole day in there
Watched the documetry of old paintings and old pictures of train systems watched on telly always used to visit when i was small as a family with dad and mum
I visited this museum about 20 years ago. I love it, it's one of my favourites and I would like to go back again someday. The early tube train without windows looked very claustrophobic! My other favourite museum in London is the Science Museum, partly because they have the original Apollo 10 capsule which orbited the moon in March 1969. Getting close to real historical objects somehow brings the past to life. Thank you for another interesting and informative video.
Great video. Must get to the museum myself one day. The "60s" tube train you went in was 1938 tube stock. The were used up until the mid 80s and I remember travelling on them on the Northern Line as a teenager. I loved the 38 stock as it was like travelling back in time with all the art deco design touches and that great interior. Incidentally, they just retired some 38 tube stock on the Isle of Wight's "Island Line" which ran services from Ryde pier head to Shanklin. Not bad for an 80 year old train
What a brilliant museum! I never knew this place existed & it looks fascinating. Makes you wonder how different our transport might be in the future. I love the simulator that let's you drive the underground! Fantastic video!
Hi Tim really enjoyed this used to love getting on the red double decker bus 207 to Ealing from Uxbridge. To visit my aunt and uncles when I was younger. Always sat at the top . I can remember as well when my Nan lived in Norwich we used to get the double decker all the way to Great Yarmouth. Used to be great fun riding through the little villages and going through the trees . Great memories you took me right back . Thankyou for sharing with us love to you as always Tracey 💕 xxxx
Hi Tim enjoyed this one , vintage transport amazing ,my dad late dad was a train driver ,from fire man steam engines,to fast trains ,all his working life ,love, the indoor tours , fantastic,so cool, Tim, 👍,amazing we got all this ,😂,and you got a scooter?lol😂
Great video, such a wonderful place too. Visited a couple of years ago, brought back some memories of my early years in West London. Keep up the good work, enjoying your informative videos 👍

You are a big kid Tim and that is ok. You will soon be taking your little one to places like this. So interesting to see all the trains. Great job Tim.
I need to go next year! I went to the shop last time I was in Covent Garden but haven’t got a chance to check out the museum yet. Funny how much I hate using public transport on a daily basis but love seeing the history of it lol.
Hi Tim not if it's been mentioned but I went earlier in the year and the guys in the blue t-shirt told me to go to acton depot they do theses special events about 3 times a year it would be worthwhile its alot bigger then the that one but u can buy old tube maps and posters etc there alot more buses in there and trains
I loved your commentary. If you're ever in NYC, I'd love to see you do a tour of the New York Transit Museum. The entrance is setup as if you're entering a subway station.
Brilliant tour Tim of the London Transport Museum I really enjoyed watching the Vlog as I’m in to my transport as my RUclips channel is transport related it looks like the London Transport Museum is definitely on my visit list keep up the good work your doing Tim take care and stay safe
'Hidden London' part is exhibiting the fact that tours are available to go into areas of the Underground normally prohibited to the public. You can arrange to join a tour through London Transport Museum and they will take you into tunnels abandoned decades ago, etc.
Btw at about 11:00 it isn't 1960s it's 1938 stock this is the first modern ish design and was used as a Base for many newer stock until the 1970s or 80s
Great video! Dont know if you were aware or not, i know you can visit some of the old disused underground stations which are really interesting (be a great video to do!)
Very enjoyable but, as you admitted, you were in a bit of a hurry to get round before closing time so a bit rushed. Thirty minutes would not have been too long a tour. My recollection of the gift shop was of high prices - not as expensive as Harrods :) , but...
Going to watch this tomorrow as feeling really tied as had my covid booster and flu jabs today but I had to go to Huntingdon boots as there was no covid booster in st Neots from Monday just gone and work was asking me when am I going to have my booster and lucky someone I know that lives in st Neots was working in boots in Huntingdon
