It’s interesting the shift to seasons on RUclips because I feel like this is something creeping in from podcasts. I do think if you don’t already have an audience the random inconsistency is not going to work for you, though. I’m a podcast strategist and what I advise my clients who want to go the “just publish when I have something to say” route is that if you do that while trying to build an audience, it likely won’t work because the new person who finds you doesn’t know, like and trust you enough to hit follow/subscribe on the promise of randomly released content. Once you’re established I think it can work, but when starting or growing, seasons is always my recommendation. It is so interesting to see that approach seep into RUclips now too.
I agree, larger channels have a following, they have that base to be inconsistent. If a smaller channel like mine decided to upload one video every two or three weeks, I would lose a lot of my viewers.
YT has NEVER been a low-effort platform. I think she’s confusing it with TikTok. Consistency and effort has always been a requirement to grow on this platform
New sub! I love this. I've experienced burnout a lot over the past year. My channel exploded in just a couple of weeks back when I started it 3 years ago and I jumped in head first with lots of videos. Then, I struggled to keep up with the pace. I seriously may consider a seasonal approach to 2023. Thanks for the tips!
Absolutely agree the bar has raised on RUclips… cameras are better, inclusion of b-roll is more prevalent, and the newest crop of RUclipsrs are not shy about diving in to it as a business. Whereas 10 years ago? Not only was the tech not as good but we were all still trying to figure out what this was going to be. Lol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
The idea that the pressure to post so often is changing is really exciting to me. I tend to do trips in batches and then create the travel content after the fact, not during. I know what I am going to post so the teasers is a great idea and something I have been noticing with other more organized travel creators lol. I work a full time job so the overwhelm has been real this year and I've been okay with the slow growth lately when I post longer videos once or twice a month and then reels 2 times per week.
TRULY, yeah i also struggle with the overwhelm factor of working fulltime. i've been thrilled with the progress my channel has made since september, buuuuuut it has definitely come at the expense of some all nighters and that doesn't feel sustainable! goals for the new year will definitely include striving for balance, experimenting with different routines to really assess whether it will be possible to do youtube and have a job and have a social life and hmm i dunno maybe also occasionally sleep just as a treat 🙃
I think I would be lost in navigating the whole shebang-- content creation, youtube and what sometimes feels like a social media nighmare without your channel. You are a godsend, thank you for such valuable content that you share! A lot of the times it's hard to find an answer when you don't even really know the question to ask. Each video that you upload and release to help others get where they want to go is GOLD.
I definitely agree to all of this and I found this really helpful as I prepare to make the content I enjoy. Lately I’ve been loving that RUclips suggests a lot of small RUclipsrs to me and the algorithm is absolutely spot on with the videos/content they suggest. It makes me feel more confident that the people who enjoy the kind of videos I create will be able to find me.
I agree with your predictions, especially regarding making sit-down videos more engaging by switching up the scenes and using graphics and b-rolls; that's an area I am working on improving. I love a good sit-down video but realise it's essential to make it more interesting to increase watch time. As it relates to creating and publishing content as a series, I'm definitely all for that. I have included that in my strategy to reduce the overwhelm and burnout with content creation. Great video, thanks.
One of my major roadblocks for starting my channel has been the idea of *needing* to create long long videos. (And not having enough to say/fill it with) Interesting to hear your take on this. Kind of relieving some self imposed pressure! Thanx!
Hiya Katie ! First off thank you for being that girl for eloquent content! I do greatly lean on and appreciate your thoughts and words. But I deeply appreciate this video, as I have been working on the foundation for the Network for all of 2022. And I found that all your saying for the new year, as I also kick start mine for the start - have been feeling inclined towards all you have mentioned! Double thank yous for the confirmation - and I’ll cya in the new year chica ❤😊 !
This is so interesting to watch - it is my Goal to create calming, cozy vlogs that people enjoy watching And that I can capture memories too - I moved to posting weekly but would love to post more however - I feel my views and subs decreased when I posted less
THIS is exactly what I needed to hear. I'm so close to hitting my watch hours for monetization, and I thought uploading 3 times per week instead twice per week for the holiday season would get me there by the end of the year. NOPE. My views have gone down and watch time is either the same as usual or less. I've been forcing myself to make more videos and it's only making me feel bad about myself and my content. I think those bad feelings have been reflected in the quality of what I'm creating. The advice you gave in this video has made me stop and think about all of this. Time to reassess and create a new plan.
I totally get where you're coming from - I feel like youtube studio especially can sometimes make you feel like you just need to push out more content to succeed. And that works for some people, but in my experience, my quality always suffers when I just push to make more. That's why I'm trying to do a more quality over quantity approach especially in the new year!
i've only been doing weekly uploads since september, and one thing that's been a real learning curve is how this version of "consistency" has a lot to do with following trends and striking while the iron is hot. it's been nice to have a few videos do well on the heels of a timely topics, but i also know that making those videos last minute was a bit stressful and wouldn't be sustainable long term. so i agree- leaning into "seasons" or experimenting with different versions of "take some time away to rest and create, then come back with high quality content" in the new year will definitely be a goal for me!
@@tracecasey nah i haven't reached that level of consistency yet...! definitely a goal tho, for now i'm kind of adopting how jenna marbles used to end her videos with "i upload new videos every wednesday/thursday"... we'll see what 2023 will bring and try to improve on that!
I LOVE THIS DISCUSSION! It’s funny that I’m coming across this video because in the last week and a half that I’ve been watching a particular RUclipsr and absolutely loving her Vlogs, with more background music, text on screen, and then she has little moments where she’s actually talking to the camera So it’s a nice balance of watching some thing that is quiet I can play in the background while I’m doing other work and then when she talks to the camera, I can pay attention for a quick minute. I have binge watched all of her videos and even started re-watching them, because I realized this is the kind of RUclips video that I would like to create. I don’t want to do full ASMR, or completely silent videos…. But it has become so exhausting to try to get one video out each week and even more so feeling like you have to have this information packed 10 minute video.. When the truth is a lot of things that I need to say, or talk about, need to go into a lot of detail, and with that being said, I could easily break a top five video into two videos, if I make them more of a Vlog style Also, I have found with some Vloggers that are very educational. They just talked with so much energy and so fast that they’ve actually caused me to feel a little anxious afterwards as if I’m not doing enough as they are or as their video says.. I think since the pandemic, a lot of people have just become more relaxed in life, and I personally think that’s what might be contributing to people changing the way that they’re filming on RUclips. This RUclipsr that I follow, I noticed she’s got 67,000 subscribers already with maybe only 20 videos on her channel that have all been filmed in the last 11 months Yes, she had very sporadic videos from three years ago four years ago and eight years ago… Maybe totaling five or six videos where she tried to do style videos and I guess it just didn’t work out I wouldn’t think that those very sporadic videos in the last 3 to 8 years have actually done much to gain her subscribers, I truly believe it’s her blog style Plus, she lives in New York, which is always a dreamy city that I personally love to watch about .
Interesting ideas! In I think 2020 I posted one video per week - then couldn't do it anymore... Took a break for a looong time, thought I needed to get back to posting once per week, but then just decided to stop the pressure and aim at one video per month. These videos have generally done better than my previous videos anyways - so I'm going to continue like this! It makes life and work so much easier, and I'm trying to build things on the side to, outside of RUclips, and now I feel like I will have the time to do so! Posting one video per week, as soon as one was uploaded I had to start working on the next one. Just so stressful!
This is really interesting, I just started this year so learning what works for this platform is definitely intimidating. I am realizing storytelling is becoming a big thing again on all platforms. Thanks for sharing as always.
My goal for now & going into 2023 is to post at least 2x a week. I know for Tiktok, they like videos everyday, but I want to prioritize making quality videos that I can look back on with pride. I know your video was about YT specifically, but I can see how it translates into alot of these social platforms too. Excited for your 2023 videos!
that's a great goal for TikTok! I also like to focus on making my videos something that I'm proud of - you never want to look back and feel like you pumped out subpart content - so taking your time and following your creativity is a great plan 🙏🏻
I’ve been posting once a week for almost a year now, slow growth but I’ve noticed the people that are subscribing interact well with what I’m sharing. Planning on shifting in the new year and focusing on being a better story teller.
As a Travel Vlogger I tried to work faster and it backfired on me so I decided one video every two weeks would be the consistancy I would aim for and I'd "bank" videos so if Life got in the way I'd still have videos releasing on time while I was sick or traveling or had no reception or whatever. We also take a month break in the early Spring each year. I look at it as building a Library rather than trying to grow really fast. I'm hoping that will not just curb burn out but also actually work so we build a channel organically that will last. Now, it may totally backfire and we'll never grow but, well, at least we won't burn out! LOL! Thanks for the tips!
One thing I am including in my youtube apps and tips tutorials, is my life as an CEO to help other how to achieve golas and how I also have problems and things like that❤❤❤
I’ve basically switched to TikTok. RUclips is focused on big creators and they made it harder for small creators to grow or monetize. Short form content is so much easier and RUclips’s shorts feature isn’t great. Creators who still work don’t have time to spend weeks on a video that might flop.
I like many of the ideas. I appreciate the encouragement to be my "real self" in my ordinary life of building a candle company while living with chronic pain. My goal this next year is to work consistently on RUclips. As a VIEWER - I don't really enjoy the 15ish minute video ideas. I enjoy the 25 minutes - but that is just a preference. THANK YOU for your informative, encouraging content.
I really like the idea of ‘seasons of content’ maybe posting 12 weeks once a week then taking a week off every season. Posting 4 less videos a year is not going to make that much of a difference but will help people’s mental health.
I appreciate this video so much! These predications give me hope, and I also agree with them as well. I’ve been struggling for a long time with consistency and quality at the same time. This makes me feel a lot more validated in choosing to not always be consistent so that I can create videos that I’m more proud of and feel authentic rather than forced. I’m actually taking a little bit of a break from posting consistently because I’ve had a fresh perspective of how I want to change directions, and I need just need time to translate these ideas. Yes, I’m not growing at the moment, but I believe in the end, it will be the best decision for my channel.
I love this! The seasonal content makes a lot of sense! I’ll keep that in mind but I would still follow the one vídeo a week on a specific time and I believe that works. My channel is about travel stories as a solo woman traveler. Right now for example I’m doing an India series where I talk about my two months in india for 5 vídeos straight and my public seem to really like the idea! ❤
The first prediction reminds me of Netflix! I think if RUclips does go this direction it will help with quality of video, creativity, and balance. Great video and timely as I’m putting together my 2023 strategy.
I think you are into something. It’s important to avoid pressure to just “produce” something and get burned out. It’s shows when creators just keep reprocessing the same stuff and show up with a video to just say they came.
That is good news! As someone who is trying to push out both shorts and long form videos, having a more flexible schedule is definitely key to helping me make better videos. I also like the idea of seasons as it really helps to take a break or even just take some time to get several videos together.
Loved this video! It's hard to keep up with how quickly things are changing on RUclips! I'm definitely into creating edutainment type content but have been losing subs as I do that (since I grew my channel with a different type of content).
Loved hearing your insight, I can definitely see a lot of these changes coming in next year. I've made it my goal to take my channel to a new level next year and I hear constantly consistency is so important in doing so. It's definitely so difficult to juggle it all next to a day job so I love the idea of posting in seasons, I can definitely see that being the case for many. And love the idea for having a 'next video' teaser, definitely makes it all seem that touch more professional. Quality over quantity is definitley key too! Loved this vid, thanks for sharing!
I agree! I can definitely see the merit it in seasons. It shows consistency in a "series" of several weeks and then breaking to anticipate another "series" which shows the audience that you are here and you want to take the time to create something new and special for your audience and then they have something great to anticipate!
I'm really focusing on quality, like youtube is my dream, like posting here makes me so happy... I will take my time two times once a month as a medical student I think that will be the consistency for me... I'm still at 400 , what I know if I make more quality with trendy ideas ,one day it will blow up... Hope all of you are not burnout quth this..let's have fun in youtube... of course I want to get monetize and stuff, in my nature if I make it something must ,I won't do it... That's why...
Good tips to think of, but also a bit intimidating! Im travelling in January and will be teaching myself video content/social media/youtubing so lets see what happens! Thanks for the tips!
Love this! I was literally just thinking about creating Seasons on my channel and organizing them into playlists. I can communicate when I'm taking breaks to my audience and get them excited for the next season. I totally agree that the regular influencer is becoming over saturated and a bit redundant. This is an exciting time for anyone who has a career outside of the internet to show the BTS of their life. Thanks for sharing, Katie. Enjoy your time in Costa Rica 💕
i want to be a digital nomad so bad I just don't know how to get started. I'd love for you to make some videos about that! I'm so ready to start making money online
Great video :) My views have been tanking the last 6 months even though I moved to weekly consistently (which totally burnt me out!) I have a toddler and only work 2 days a week on my business and client work so I don't have a tone of time to invest (especially when it doesn't pay off). Do you have any examples of education channels that are doing a good job of "seasonal content". Also what are your thoughts on shorts in 2023?
Absolutely agree! I started around 4 months ago and got great views then recently since I started posting once a week - my views and subs have gone down ❤
@@tracecasey I've had my channel for over 5 years (posted weekly for 2 then had a baby so started fortnightly but tried to go back to weekly a few months ago). Doesn't feel like it's worth the effort when my new views only get 100 - 200 views when I have 15k subs and following all the YT keyword/creation best practices
It makes sense that YT will promote quality over quantity as a valid USP in comparison with other competitors such as Tik Tok and Insta Reels, also I'm not sure how the all shorts things went so far. Personally, I clicked 'hide this info' when shorts were prompted to me. I love YT for what it is, meaning well-thought-out long-format vids.
How do you think this consistency strategy applies for small channels (like mine)? At the moment, because I've just started, I want to publish once a week consistently until I've grown to a decent amount. Is that thinking still valid in 2023?
I have a small channel as well and I don’t know that I could create outstanding videos without having the practice of regularly making videos in the first place. Mindset wise, I’m not comfortable ditching my weekly routine because I could easily slip and let weeks go by without posting. Interesting to consider as my channel grows tho.
I totally agree this Alycia on this! I've actually got a video coming next week where I'm going to talk more about this in depth - but in general I think if you're still learning the ropes, being consistent is important for your own skill building (less for algorithm reasons) and then once you're confident with your content, that's when I would lean hard into the quality over quantity thing 🙏🏻
This is so great. I have 2 small kids, one of them is a little sick. And ijust started out with my channel. Producing videos in my niche is time consuming. So it is such good news that i do not have to uplpad every week. In the beginnig i am going to try, but it s nice to know it wont make or break my channel.
I'm guessing that video watchers will not go for the channel seasons. They will jump to the first available channel that walks through the door. Have you ever met someone that stops watching the larger channels as they grow?
I totally agree with quality over quantity! 🙌🙌 I just started RUclips this year, and since spring I have only posted five vlogs. But I've had a surprising amount of growth. At least it's surprised me!!! 😜And while I could beat myself up about how long it takes me to edit, and how difficult it's been to get in a disciplined routine of editing and posting, I am just so so grateful that I started and that I'm focusing on high quality videos! Making videos that are interesting to watch and and that connect with people is where you'll get results!
I been off on youtube for like 2 months for college but now im back 🙌🏽🥺❤️but it's so nice that I had few views even tho I didn't post anything. Keep up the work guys 🥳❤️you can do it 🙌🏽
Currently - I upload once a week; since I recently restarted my RUclips channel. I have said that I don't plan on niching down, and for now, I'm doing a combination of lifestyle, short conversation videos and writer life videos. I also think that for the moment - I prefer doing shorter videos that are fairly quick to edit. 😄
I loveee this video!! Makes me feel so confident going into 2023 knowing a lot of this tips were already a part of my strategy for the new year! I’m also going to start working on shorts and see how that works!
Yes! I’m excited for 2023! I just started my channel about two months ago and I’ve already started a seasonal playlist. Instead of “Vlogmas” I’ve created “HAPPY HORROR-DAYS” But that’s because my niche is geared towards horror movie reviews, tarot card decks reviews and deep dives into the psychological aspects of horror films
Thank you for this! I also loved your video about Vlogmas. A question: for baby creators who don’t make any $ from ads yet, is their any benefit to doing Vlogmas ?
definitely! vlogmas can be a great opportunity to practise with getting comfortable on camera, improving your editing skills, and all of that good stuff! it's also just fun for your own memories :) but it's not necessarily something that will grow your channel!
LOVED this video! It was encouraging to hear about quality > quantity, and that some channels do well with a semi-inconsistent upload schedule. Weekly is hard due to the nature of my content! Rather than filming demos with dogs that already know the skills, I instead show the genuine journey of how I teach a dog that's never been trained that skill before😊Depending on the dog & skill, I'm often spending multiple days (or sometimes weeks!) filming & training them for one video. I'd love to not be penalized for missing a week of uploading!
I started prioritizing quality over quantity as I started to see subscriber growth, and already feel so much better. But I love the idea of posting a "season of content" and creating a real storyline. I am definitely going to rethink my 2023 strategy!
I’m REALLY intrigued in your prediction of not needing to be an educator/being able to grow as a lifestyle creator. Do you already have a video on how to utilize the recommendations algorithm for sparking video/content ideas?
I'm actually currently working on a video talking about how I grew my vlog channel to 1K subs and tips for beginners on growing from scratch with lifestyle/vlog content :)
It’s interesting the shift to seasons on RUclips because I feel like this is something creeping in from podcasts. That's a very interesting and useful perspective. Thank you for sharing!
I’d love to know what you recommend to do to grow…
This is something I was going to ask- thank you for the insight

Thank you for sharing. Quality and Quantity still interesting. High value and fast video. Consistancy
I’ve been posting seasonally for a couple of years now. I love it!
Super interesting to hear your thoughts on this and the idea of “seasons” - just like tv has always done. Love your work!

Agree! Would rather viewers who Want to view and interact over ghost followers
I agree with the breaks then posting .. and yes better content is a breath of fresh air . We need the breaks girl
Thank you! These are the exact thoughts I've been having! Quality over quantity!
Thanks Katie! I was literally just debating with myself over which to prioritize in the new year, this really helps my perspective on it ❤
As a Travel Vlogger I tried to work faster and it backfired on me so I decided one video every two weeks would be the consistancy I would aim for and I'd "bank" videos so if Life got in the way I'd still have videos releasing on time while I was sick or traveling or had no reception or whatever.
I love the way you film this educational content. Gonna comment back after I watch the full video.
Ooh interesting! I feel like my videos need to be longer
Great prospectives & predictions ❤
I love this! The seasonal content makes a lot of sense! I’ll keep that in mind but I would still follow the one vídeo a week on a specific time and I believe that works. My channel is about travel stories as a solo woman traveler. Right now for example I’m doing an India series where I talk about my two months in india for 5 vídeos straight and my public seem to really like the idea! ❤
Love this idea! Do you just post once a week - same day?
The first prediction reminds me of Netflix! I think if RUclips does go this direction it will help with quality of video, creativity, and balance. Great video and timely as I’m putting together my 2023 strategy.
Yes! Netflix is starting to slow down on pushing shows and movies out. And focusing on quality!
I think you are into something. It’s important to avoid pressure to just “produce” something and get burned out. It’s shows when creators just keep reprocessing the same stuff and show up with a video to just say they came.
Those are interesting takeaways. Would you advise the seasonal content calendar for established accounts or also for very new ones?
That is good news! As someone who is trying to push out both shorts and long form videos, having a more flexible schedule is definitely key to helping me make better videos. I also like the idea of seasons as it really helps to take a break or even just take some time to get several videos together.
Me tooo I have been working everyday of improving 🙌🏽each video I upload
Maybe, the best should be a mix between search and a more you content (personal but useful)
Loved this video! It's hard to keep up with how quickly things are changing on RUclips! I'm definitely into creating edutainment type content but have been losing subs as I do that (since I grew my channel with a different type of content).
I honestly feel like - you post what You enjoy posting and hopefully your type of people will find you and follow you ❤
Loved hearing your insight, I can definitely see a lot of these changes coming in next year.
Awesome Video Stacey. Thanks 🙏
So helpful!!! Thank you❤
I agree with all your predictions
hi ! 💛I appreciate your work girl! 😘
I really hope this will happen because I want to make a second channel. Thanks for this awesome video!
Great info and inspiration! Thank you
I’m only making videos to start my coaching business. This video came out just in time! Thank you!
Way to take action, Lorainda
Information niceee
Good tips to think of, but also a bit intimidating! Im travelling in January and will be teaching myself video content/social media/youtubing so lets see what happens! Thanks for the tips!
you've got this!! 🙌🏻
I think this video is spot on. I can see all of your predictions coming true.
Thanks. I'm trying a vlogmas, with some not too long and longer videos in the mix
Thank you! All good things!
Enjoy your time in Costa Rica 💕
that's an awesome idea! i definitely think seasons is a great way to go 🙌🏻 and thank you!
Great video and insights. Trying to figure how to use these tips with my cat channel. 😻
Girl I agree when I see a king video at 2 hours I just can’t
Thanks for sharing your insight! 👍
i want to be a digital nomad so bad I just don't know how to get started. I'd love for you to make some videos about that! I'm so ready to start making money online
Oh my gosh, what is your mini microphone? Do you have a link? (The big mic is linked in your bio)
@@AlyciaBoutte that's a great point! I feel very similarly, and almost like I want to "ignore" new trends until I have a solid habit
@@katie Great explanation--thanks Katie!
This is so great. I have 2 small kids, one of them is a little sick. And ijust started out with my channel. Producing videos in my niche is time consuming. So it is such good news that i do not have to uplpad every week. In the beginnig i am going to try, but it s nice to know it wont make or break my channel.
totally! just post as much as you can, and focus on making each video as engaging as it can be :)
@@katie will do :) thanks so much for your content. Seeing that you uploaded always makes my day❤️🙃
I'm guessing that video watchers will not go for the channel seasons. They will jump to the first available channel that walks through the door.
Have you ever met someone that stops watching the larger channels as they grow?
Seasonal content? This is going to be the next tv or netflix or something like that! 😝
I CAN'T AGREE MOREEEEE, cz i already in that position rn.....
I started this year too! I started posting so many vlogs then changed how I posted and my viewing went Down!
Hello. Thanks for the video. What was the little mic you had in your hand? Thanks.
any thoughts on how making reels vs. not posting reels will affect things?
I been off on youtube for like 2 months for college but now im back 🙌🏽🥺❤️but it's so nice that I had few views even tho I didn't post anything. Keep up the work guys 🥳❤️you can do it 🙌🏽
Currently - I upload once a week; since I recently restarted my RUclips channel. I have said that I don't plan on niching down, and for now, I'm doing a combination of lifestyle, short conversation videos and writer life videos. I also think that for the moment - I prefer doing shorter videos that are fairly quick to edit. 😄
YES!!!!!!!!!! Best way to start my day is with another Katie video! Happy Tuesday, Katie!
awe yay! hope you have a great day!
Batching is my plan. I like having a series and resting.
Please do more digital nomad content!!
okay yay! i would love to 🥰
You should go to Rythmia while you're in Costa Rica and do Ayahuasca 🎄
I loveee this video!! Makes me feel so confident going into 2023 knowing a lot of this tips were already a part of my strategy for the new year! I’m also going to start working on shorts and see how that works!
yay so glad to hear that! can't wait to see how shorts works for you- I've had limited success so far, so I haven't fully committed 🙈
Okay two, nicely edited 3D videos.
Very valuable content! Thank you!!!
RUclips also hasn’t fixed the spam issues! Every comment section is full of spam.
Great video! What do you mean by the RUclips recommendations algorithm (7:20)?
I like the idea of seasonal content I’d be interested in knowing your ideas on how to make that for content like this channel that’s education basdd
ooh that's a good question! I can brainstorm that and include some tips in a future video :)
I'd love to know that too! Like do you choose a topic then create 10 videos on that topic, one linking to the next to the next?
I prefer longer videos because I like listening to people talk while I’m driving and working
Yes! I’m excited for 2023! I just started my channel about two months ago and I’ve already started a seasonal playlist. Instead of “Vlogmas” I’ve created “HAPPY HORROR-DAYS”
But that’s because my niche is geared towards horror movie reviews, tarot card decks reviews and deep dives into the psychological aspects of horror films
I love that! such a fun title!
@@katie thank you!!
Any suggestions or videos for people starting a RUclips channel?😊
I'm so glad to hear this, weekly videos can definitely feel overwhelming! I think quality over quantity is the way to go ✨
Thank you for this!
RUclips is really Changing
One thing I think is home prices will come down due to the amount of deaths due to the "safe and effective" Kool Aid that the Sheeple got.
@@katie Awesome! Thanks for the info, I’ll keep an eye out! (Already have notifications turned on😊👍🏼)
