0:50 I love the detail in this little moment. Any type of animation is a very laborious process so putting in Gumby's little mistake of picking up the receiver incorrectly, realizing it and fixing the mistake is a strange but incredible detail to intentionally include.
I noticed this too and it put a smile on my face. Like they must have really loved making this animation to put in effort for this little detail like this lol
Hey Steve father said I can come over so I’m going to put my roller skates on now and head over to your house while you’re waiting for me make sure you find your toys in the milk crate your father put in your garage don’t worry I’ll bring my toys with I’ll bring them with me in my parcel see you soon Steve
So glad my dad was able to show me this when I was younger, glad to have a refresh watching. I have a small figure of Gumby and he has been coming with me to school lately! 😌
I got a rubber Gumby AND Pokey for Christmas...55 years ago!❤ and now that I think about it, they had rubber Gumby & Pokey erasers for the ends of our pencils in school! Those were the days...this show was on TV after school, I would race home to watch!
@@CatCrafting. bro it’s just a joke or a clay no need to be mad. Because it’s just a kids show. This one is in the 60s but in the 50s were even better lol
Never saw Gumby in color. These are great. OT: My family had a b/w Zenith and my father never replaced anything until it died. Except the Zenith wouldn't die and in about 1983 he gave up and got a color set. The first time I saw the NBC peacock in color my eyes about jumped out of my head.
Gumby defeated the Indians AND delivered the mail before supper. I cant even get to work on time if the car in front of me stops at a single yellow light
Wow what a memory slap!! I remember having movable gumboots toys as a kid, watching this I can almost feel and smell them again. That sounds weird but hopefully it makes sense lol
I wasn’t around in 1956 (I was born in the early 2010s) but this is really good animation! I can’t remember how I came across Gumby, but I’ll definitely show it to my kids when I have them!
One joke went over my head the first time I watched this, the Postmaster was complaining about the "pesky Indians" . Later on, Gumby tells Pokey "those Peskies are a wild tribe!"
I remember having a big green eraser of Gumby, some 50 yrs or so ago. The times of normalcy and simple, long gone, never to be repeated, only remembered.
Anyone that used to watch this cartoon back in the days oh my God I used to love watching all Gumby it took me forever I had to go to Google and ask her cuz I forgot the name for Gumby I love this cartoon it was one of the best cartoon ever made out of glaze Barbie zombie I know he's close to Bambi but I know you're Gumby he took me a long time to find Gumby here on RUclips but I'm so glad I did
The shot at 9:41 was made around 1961-1962 when "Pokey Express" was split into two separate shorts. I think that shot was from the "Indian Trouble" short...
@@WillCWilson That would probably make sense. It also seems more neat hearing the John Seely "Light Movement" track concluding under that shot, rather than what was heard in the "Indian Trouble" edit. Plus, Art Clokey himself was actually part Native American and wanted to make sure they were portrayed positively (the late 60s episodes that didn't do so were obviously because Clokey wasn't involved as much with the show back then).
Those cartoons are still Cool . Maby the first time in 25 years I have seen these . Gumby had Respect for his Father , we see Nothing of this anymore . Maby Gummby should be brought back on T.V to show our children the way of being respectful!
I literally only looked this up because being high and watching gumby a million years ago popped in my head. This was definitely one of the go to shows to watch when I was lit... lol, no idea why
Though maybe (with the money it'd take) not voiced by him, the manager of the post office--the psotmaster, the guy with the beard--is based clearly on none other than Walter Brennan, who was now having his own television show "The Real McCoys" and in the then near future to sing those classic songs "Dutchman's Gold" and, of course, "Old Rivers", in the wake of his being maybe the most awarded character actor b y the late 1940s.
I got introduced to Gumby because of the 2010 Google Doodle. I found some of the episodes and watched them, my love for the show grew, I bought the 80's FHE VHS tapes, and I was hooked on Gumby. Still love him to this day.
There are problems with how indigenous people are portrayed in this. Fox Entertainment bought the rights last, so expect there to be comeback. Just not with this particular episode.
@@Glopdemon Yes, Fox Entertainment just bought the rights to this, so I assume that they will be doing consultations with the tribe of them Pesky Indians who will not let the mail go through. I am sure they will give them some speaking lines instead of just making whirring noises like Dialeks and oh-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo noises that they normally make.
They were shot in color, shown on TV in black and white [most likely during the show's time in syndication, but I'm not sure about back in '56 or '57.]
Them 'Pesky Indians' reminds me of the Dialeks from Dr. Who. They seem like machines that roll around and make whirring noises. They do not seem human as they cannot talk until the second half when they make 'oh-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo' noises. At least, the Dialeks could say "Exterminate!" Yet, somehow 'extermination' also figures into this equation. I wonder if the creators of Dr. Who were influenced by this at all and grew up watching this.
