I think one of the reason the 90s version is unbeatable was because somehow the animators can manage put the expression of concentrating and struggling emotions whenever the sailor wanted to release their power. It just feels natural. Like in Mars and Jupiter. They really put an effort before attacking the enemy. The new version somehow lost it. And make the scene faster so we can’t feel the expression of each senshi.
Exactly is those little details!!! like Sailor V’s stance of pointing the finger while holding her arm, or Sailor mar’s finger guns against her forehead. SO iconic.
Honestly the only reason I like Crescent Boomerang more is because the name is a nod to Sailor Moon's attack 'Tiara Boomerang', since Venus role is to be a decoy to protect Sailor Moon

i think the thing that bothers me the absolute most about the remake is the color design. the old colors were rich and harmonious, and the designers really made certain elements pop (ex they use an off white for their costumes, which makes the sparkle effects seem brighter by comparison). even the shadows are colored carefully, (ex using shades of blue on the white parts of the outfit, and more pink shades on their skin). the new colors are SO overexposed, looking very washed out, and dont go together as well, almost as if rather than creating a pallet they just picked each color straight from the paint tube. the shots dont draw the eye any which way and are very busy. the way theyre all lit looks like it was shot in broad daylight, as compared to the other-worldy feel of OG. shadows almost exclusively look like half opacity black.
@@ijansk interesting point! i agree, i make both digital and traditional art and often it can be harder to get digital colors to harmonize because theres so many infinite choices, unlike traiditional which are based on certain pigments and usually are developed as a set which match somewhat. i guess my paint tube analysis was to say the crystal artists went for the most straightforward of each color. for example usagis hair: in original, its this rich yellow, often a bit warmly pigmented, almost to yellow ochre, though it changes depending on the lighting of the scene. in crystal, its almost always this kind of sickly pastel yellow, a lot lighter and more washed out. it doesnt contrast as well with her skin tone (which, in crystal, is also significantly lighter and more pale).

Yeah I find Mercury's attack so childish, like what? Bubbles? The others have striking attacks whilst she has bubbles or mist only. There are many strong water splash attacks but she was given a lame move. She is already the timid one and still got that attack. Luckily unlike the other scouts, her attacks normally levels up like the Bubbles Spray has a next lvl called Bubbles Spray Freezing. Then her next moves Shine Aqua Illusion and Aqua Rhapsody have strong splash attacks and can also freeze
I love the subtle detail of the original attacks like mercury's arms and mars' fingers, it's like they really need effort to launch the attack. The Crystal attacks are just like they're throwing things
The only thing that bothering me in crystal and eternal is the music. The music in the 90s was so special. Why couldn’t they just make a newer version of the old music.
The fun thing about Mercury attqcks Is than despait on paper actualy beeing usefull, It never did anything important. At least in Crystal She could trasfrom It in a water balst
it's so irritating because there are sooo many times where it could have been useful, but she didn't use it lol. like, so much for being the "smart" one.... if sailor moon was a shonen with more well thought out combat scenes, she definitely would have used it more.
When Mercury used Shabon Spray for the first time in the 90s anime, it had multiple effects if you watch the whole scene: 1. Mist to obscure vision 2. It made the enemy feel cold (foreshadowing her ice power) 3. It caused the students who were under the enemy's control and attacking sailormoon to drop on the floor (don't know how that happened). 4. She used it to reflect her image on a computer monitor fooling the enemy to strike it causing her arm to get stuck giving Sailor Moon the opportunity to finish her off. Point is. First time usage of this power easily goes to the 90s where it had way more effect. In crystal, it was just a mist. Nothing more.
@@Yuan3986 it having some plot magic and emphasized screen time in the 90s doesn't make it better. the mist has always been cold (if you read the manga, you'd know mercury aqua mist created ice crystals from the sheer coldness), but it being cold isn't going to bother a superpowered demon lol; they just had that scene of the youma struggling because 1) it was a weak youma 2) it was her debut episode, and they needed to show her off a bit. the third one was more or less plot magic, and if not, it was the youma losing concentration because it was confused by the fog. and the last one was just a byproduct of it being blinding mist and ami being smart.
@@venteanari I'm comparing the 90s anime to Crystal. Not the manga (Did you see any manga image in the youtube video? You must be watching something else). And in spite of everything you said, it does not take away from my point that all these happened in the 90s anime, and none of it happened in Crystal. That's a fact. Which makes it better.
@@Yuan3986 You’re not wrong that the first time she uses it in the 90s anime it was effective, not offensively but in different aspects which I think is worth talking about. Subsequent times were kinda meh mostly. Crystal’s first time usage of Mercury aqua mist wasn’t as impactful but I personally think it was understandable being a first time attack and it did serve it’s purpose so there’s that. Overall Mercury Aqua mist is still better in Crystal since it’s so versatile being able to act as an offensive and defensive move. But the point of the video was to showcase the first time attacks so yeah I would agree 90s anime scored better for its first time rendition of Shabon spray, overall tho Crystal made the move more interesting imo
crystal is more better at fighting scene, make sailor senshi look more powerful than just showing a stock footage and do nothing. But for storyline 90s is way better, crystal make thing too fast that there're not connection between senshi. They're not showing much friendship of sailor senshi
Only when it comes to the stock footage, which is where most of the budget went. I love the 90s Sailor Moon as much as the next fan, but let's not get blinded by nostalgia. The 90s had the one repeated stock footage attack for every episode in the first season, while Crystal had a fair amount of uniquely animated attacks.
90s attack for me are unbeatable, mainly for me because you can feel they are fuelling up ther power to attack there's emotion in it, the new version lack that, its just an attack...
Same here! _Crystal_ is closer to what _Sailor Moon_ creator Naoko Takeuchi always INTENDED the anime to be. The art style of the first 2 seasons is literally the manga brought to life. It was SO beautiful. ❤️
Problem is you don't care about literally all characters other than Usagi in Crystal. Villains are lame. 90's added more depth to the villains and the heroes as well.
Jupiter really shows this but the animation in the 90's is more fluid and has more power behind it. The Crystal Version clearly lacked a budget and they make a ton of animation skips to reduce the amount of frames. Even a digital blur or zoom would have been better to show more fluid movement. There's not even hair movement in Crystal. It's sad. Sailor Moon Crystal deserved a better budget with a better director.
Sailor Moon Crystal deserves real credit for restoring the reputation of the Inner Senshi that was destroyed by the original 90s anime network executives because the Outer and Inner Senshi were too close. Instead of being two groups united by their interest in protecting Usagi, they turned the Inner Senshi into weaklings that were desperate without the outer Senshi. In the manga the Outer Senshi rely on the Inner Senshi until they have to intervene, at one point not being surprised if the Inner Senshi were to surpass them in strength and in the true battle with Pharoah 90 the Outer Senshi were the ones relying on the Inner Senshi to fight until Saturn saved them all. The Senshi that benefitted the most is Sailor Mercury who was unnecessarily crippled to adhere to some stereotype of the smart ones being weak. Mercury absolutely dominated Fire Buster saving all the others with just her base Aqua Mist attack, which she can turn into a huge wave of water and take tiny water droplets and turn them into bullets that expand with huge concussive force. They also finally showed Shine Snow Illusion and showed her ability to manipulate dimensional space itself. I was so happy when they restored her abilities and strength, showing she was not someone to played with. They gave the Inner Senshi their planet powers back, and I would not want to get anywhere near Coconut Cyclone. Sailor Moon Crystal fixed an injustice that was created due to arbitrary executive decisions. Although I will say the 90s version of Shine Aqua Illusion was infinitely better than the Crystal version.
I LOVE how people are complaining about stock footage, while forgetting this was made before computers could help out. Did you all REALLY want animators to remake the same footage over and over again? Their hands would be dead!
Mercury : both looks same Mars : Crystal looks better, more emotional, and more powerful Jupiter : Crystal version Thunderbolt blast very dangerous skill and if I'm correct she also use flower hurricane to paralyzing enemies Venus: somehow I prefer 90's crescent beam than just throwing boomerang but she already able to use her chain skill in crystal from the very beginning..still it's pretty cool Venus can shot a laser beam 😆
that's really sad how crystal gets much undeserved hate :( in my opinion crystal is better than original, especially plot. But i enjoyed original soundtracks a bit more. So why Sailor Moon Crystal seems bad? Beacuse people never fckin shut up.
Crystal is way better 90s made the Sailor Senshi a joke and Crystal did it way better with the Story (based on the manga) and the senshis are more stronger and 90s ruined rei personality and bad filler episodes

About Jupiter's first attack...I think they renamed it Jupiter Thunderbolt to go with the attack of that name from the live-action drama Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (which Jupiter used with her tambourine during the second half of the series). They did something similar with Mercury, where Shabon Spray was renamed Mercury Aqua Mist in the 2003 reprint of the manga and onward (previously it hadn't been named in the manga), the same as her first attack in PGSM, a change that carried over to Crystal. It still being called Supreme Thunder may have been a continuity or translation error.
In original manga, Sailor Mercury's mist based attack was un-named in 1990s edition, so did Sailor Jupiter's thunderbolt attack. Mercury Aqua Mist and Jupiter Thunderbolt are from 2003-2004 edition of Manga.

The budget went fully into Sailor Jupiter here, just like it did into Sailor Uranus in Sailor Moon: Cosmos.
When Mercury used Shabon Spray for the first time in the 90s anime, it had multiple effects if you watch the whole scene:
1. Mist to obscure vision
2. It made the enemy feel cold (foreshadowing her ice power)
In the original things were fast, you just like fillers
Crystal wins always and forever. Their attacks are powerful and beautiful in Crystal.
Sailor Moon Crystal Eternal Cosmos supremacy🤩😍😻💫🌙🌟✨
I prefer 90's
That frame when Mercurys right glove dissapears in Shabao Spray bothers me soooo much
The 90s animation is so much more fluid and natural looking than Crystal.
Gross
So I'm not the only one that thinks that? Well that and I just prefer the 90s version over crystal
@@GrandAngel8000 Uniquely but so poorly animated, that is makes the whole Crystal thing lousy and cheap…
@@arretminute Uh, no? Some of the animations are amazing, actually.
90s attack for me are unbeatable, mainly for me because you can feel they are fuelling up ther power to attack there's emotion in it, the new version lack that, its just an attack...
The new attacks look more powerful to me
the shade showing venus's attacks being ineffective XD. The 90s version did a better job at building the anticipation though.
90s ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Im sorry been growing up with the Original 90s but the epic Crystal One is the REAL Sailor Moon that Ive been waiting for.
In Philippines. "Shabon spray" was dubbed as " Soap Bubble Spray" .
They would just love to not see stock footage so often
90s got budget on fillers
0:11 Ami has no glove
90s bgm forever
I remember my sister loving this and I ended up watching it sometimes. I ended up loving sailor Jupiter and her powers lol
Me emociona la música de trasformación de las sailors scauts, extraño esa época tan linda.
and the background music was iconic
あみさん、頭がいいです‼️
I just love the 90s no matter what
Mercury : both looks same
Mars : Crystal looks better, more emotional, and more powerful
Jupiter : Crystal version Thunderbolt blast very dangerous skill and if I'm correct she also use flower hurricane to paralyzing enemies
Venus: somehow I prefer 90's crescent beam than just throwing boomerang but she already able to use her chain skill in crystal from the very beginning..still it's pretty cool Venus can shot a laser beam 😆
that's really sad how crystal gets much undeserved hate :( in my opinion crystal is better than original, especially plot. But i enjoyed original soundtracks a bit more.
So why Sailor Moon Crystal seems bad? Beacuse people never fckin shut up.
Its kinda like a show to watch incase u didnt read the manga because SMC plot is based off the manga
Because it didn't live up yo their expectations, crystal was ALWAYS supposed to look like in episode 25 towards Pluto's death scene.
@@chrisss838 90's anime was not perfect too... the only things what were perfect are stock footages.
Nostalgia and prejudice with evolution...
@@fiszylll I'm talking about character development and animation
90s >> remastered ...
My favourites are FIre-Soul and Crescent Beam :DD
Crystal is way better 90s made the Sailor Senshi a joke and Crystal did it way better with the Story (based on the manga) and the senshis are more stronger and 90s ruined rei personality and bad filler episodes
Sailor Venus is gorgeous as always. But Sailor Moon. Yeah. She is different. Coz she's the moon herself💞
Thr biggest thing for me is that the old version has better music. A way way better music.
Lol both of Venus' attacks failed.
Haha exactly
Haters
They did 😞 Why do they always do Venus dirty? 😂
Right? I'm so sad to see that 🤣
and in Crystal they made Sailor Moon kill Beryl instead of Venus. Venus been done dirty again
I personally prefer crystal's attacks sisne theyxare more dinamic and action oriented.
From a kid 'till now, I believe that Amy was saying "Bubble Spray". So I was wrong all along? 🤣
Bubble spray is partially right, Sabão Spray means Soap Bubble spray
I like how in Crystal the inners are strong enough to destroy a monster on their own. In 90s version then had to Team up to tmdo that wait for Moon to finish it off. Which never made sense given there was no Moon during the Silver Millennium.
crystal wins just bc of the nonstock footage attacks
Period.
And? They are horribly animated (not to mention s2 uses stck attack so often)
I honestly 90's is better. I don't think you even watched the first one, or even none at all if you gonna think that lol
@@underground_clinic4506 Crystal is way better 90s made the Sailor Senshi a joke and Crystal did it way better with the Story (based on the manga) and the senshis are more stronger and 90s ruined rei personality and bad filler episodes
Jupiter Thunderbolt is not “called Supreme Thunder as well.” They are two different attacks.
mercury 90 s mars 90 jupiter 90 venus 90
yea yea the nostalgia is cute but thats it qualitity/ animation/ and characters looks way better in crystal
Maybe Jupiter Thunderbolt is the stronger version of Supreme Thunder
In original manga, Sailor Mercury's mist based attack was un-named in 1990s edition, so did Sailor Jupiter's thunderbolt attack. Mercury Aqua Mist and Jupiter Thunderbolt are from 2003-2004 edition of Manga.
今回、初カキコ
亜実ちゃんはいつもすました感じが素敵だと思う。
Jupiter’s the best 😍😍 ⚡️
Can’t believe they got rid of Crescent Beam. I mean it’s a laser beam! It doesn’t get any cooler than that!
I like the original attacks better.
You know that their original attacks are from manga and Crystal have it?
90s version all the way!!!
90's may have cooler names but I will never agree that they look better, Crystals attacks look dope Af
Yes! That artstyle have so much potential, and they just need more emotions and details..
But still.. i prefer Crystal than 90s
Mercury: 90s (but the name aqua mist is better than shabon spray)
Mars: 90s
Jupiter: 90s
Venus: 90s
I love how SMC Sailor Venus’s power was the only one where we see it fail 😅😅
I much prefer crystal over the original because I thought it stayed more true to the manga and it's characterizations. But the original was iconic and it still holds a special place in my heart
Original is manga
@@SailorCoockie I know. But I was referring to the original anime. I just call it that
マーキュリーは元々技名がなかったからいい、マーズもほぼ原作準拠だから結構。
でもなんでジュピターはシュープリームサンダーじゃないんだ??
それ思った
smc should have started with the character designs from eternal and cosmos and same budget too
Funny that u showed both Venus attack clips that flopped against enemies 😭
i love how uploader use ineffective attacks for sailor venus.
