    This honestly looks so much easier than a lot of the other methods I see on here.
    Just requires patience. Which is something lacking in the world today.
    Absolutely beautiful work

    It's my wife and my 40th anniversary next year, and I'd really love to make new rings for us, maybe with some Ruby red wood in it. I'll have to practice.

    Nice result, i like it. I plan on trying something similar. The method I was planning on using was going over different types of wood with a hand plan then wrapping the shaving round a piece of plastic pipe while glueing them ontop of each other. If that makes sense. Once I get to the desired thickness let them dry and shape with a file and plenty of hand sanding. Would be interested in your thoughts on this process. You may even want to try it in a video.

    looks beautiful
    what if you dip it in epoxy after it's finished
    is that make it harder?
    and can you compine a small silver or brass ring in the middle of the layers
    but is it gonna stay together?

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  Год назад +1

      You can put a piece of metal in the middle but often that becomes the weak point as the wood doesn't adhere as well to metal. Even if you etch the surface of the metal to give it something to hold on to, they tend to break apart between the wood and the metal. As to dipping it in epoxy sure. It really won't make it any stronger but it will give it a nice smooth finish.

    Love the finish on the ring! That matte look really sets it apart. How long will it hold up with regular use? I would imagine you'd want to take it off to do dishes as well

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  Год назад +1

      Yeah you're not going to want to get this one wet but occasional washing of the hands isn't going to be a problem. The nice thing about a simple homemade boiled Lindsey oil finish is the oils on your hand. Will continue asleep. Keep it the same appearance.

    Looks a bit bulky to wear. No wonder you didn't try it on. Also, I would have sanded the strips so you get a less visible glue line.
