My submechanophobia leans more towards animatronics than ship and planes, just imagine an abandoned animatronic (that just so happens to be submerged partially or mostly, or hell even fully underwater) having water in its circuits and crossbeams, etc. just springing to life as if it's nowhere near water, yet its sounds or voice box is "stuttery" and as it moves shakily it stops dead silent and just stares at you it seemingly deactivates and goes back under the water, but then you feel a hand grab onto your leg/teeth bite onto your leg and you get pulled down by a mechanical beast, you try to fight back, but your underwater which makes your attempts to attack slow and unsuccessful, even if you did hit it, hard or not it wouldn't flinch, it wouldn't feel...
I dunno they're just kinda creepy!

Finally, I found out what this is called.
My first time experiencing this was when I was at the museum. I was in an ice cave tunnel with a small body of water next to it. It was about 1 foot tall. (Or so I thought) there was a small rock of ice in it. That crap terrified me. The water was pitch black. You couldn’t see the bottom if you tried. (Quick note: I’m less scared of like shipwrecks and more scared of like animatronics or like statues.) the next time I experienced this was when I had a dream about a swimming pool with a statue of a giant swimming dinosaur. My parents wanted me to go on it. As I steeped on it it began to submerge and almost become progressively decayed. I woke up after that

My mind always goes to like something is going to appear behind me and nobody can help me, if I’m not alone it’s fine, like if I’m on a ship with other people it’s fine. But if I’m alone I will piss myself. That why night is so scary if it’s pitch dark, emptiness surrounds me and I can’t see away from me. The Mario 64 staircase freaked the shit out of me.

it's the thought of going for a swim, and finding something that doesn't belong
like, when you go swimming, you always know that there's a possibility that you'll get pinched by a crab, or bitten by a shark
but imagine, putting your goggles on, jumping in and taking in the scenery, just to find something that once danced around like it was alive rotting, unable to move, and no one to take it

I have a little story for you all,
In scotland, theres a place called pease bay, where I have been countless times as a kid (it's basically a caravan park next to the beach). So it's all cool until you get to the other half of the beach where you cant get to when the tide goes in, but when you get there, there is a sunken shipwreck from God knows where , and to me, it terrifies me, especially when the tide goes in and the sea just, idk, consumes the lower half, making the lower half oblivious. Search it up if I dont make any sence.

Some shipwrecks, particularly in the Great Lakes, still have corpses in them, so they’re just floating around down there. My fear is being INSIDE of these wrecks and turning the corner just to come upon a decomposing body. Claustrophobic, decomposing, man-made spaces where a tragedy occurred, underwater are nightmares.

Super interesting video! I personally have intense scopophobia, which is the fear of being watched, stalked, or stared at. To have it in a world with a lot of cameras where you’re frequently under surveillance is... unnerving, to say the least. I tend to keep most windows covered and I don’t like being photographed. It’s especially freaky if something’s particularly unnatural-looking or unsettling.

I have a version of submechanophobia, which involves animatronics rising up out of water. I think it stemmed from the trolls in water in Malstrom (the now gone) ride from Disneyworld.

for me it’s not too scary looking at the structures underwater but if i’m right next to them or touch them i’ll think i’m dying. i guess u could say i have a mild submechanophobia case, but it’s slightly different. like i’ll only get scared if i’m in person right next to it. especially bridge supports in the water

Sh33Sh Im planning on going with an underwater expedition in the future under a very thick layer of ice in Antarctica. When you swim under the ice,you can hear the glacier expanding.(Also you have to be quick cause your hole might close and you'll get trapped under the ice)Im not sure if I go(in probably 6-7 years)

I'm weird in that I have Submechanophobia (along with Megalophobia) but I love learning about shipwrecks - especially the Titanic. I played the Titanic: Honor and Glory Demo 3 and had to close my eyes as I boarded the ship because being right up next to it, even in-game, freaked me out. We even went to the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge (which has a massive model of the Titanic's bow as its show building) and I was super excited to go, however I refused to take a picture in front of the museum because of how badly it freaked me out.
A list of other incidents where my irrational submechanophobia and/or Megalophobia kicked in are as follows:
-I legit turned off my game without saving after accidentally bumping into the submarine in Boston harbor while playing Fallout 4.
-I noped right out of a building in Fallout 4 and abandoned the far harbor story for days after seeing the submarine that a Children of Atom base was built on.
-I almost quit playing Bioshock 2 after the window-breaking scene where I had to walk around outside the city. (Bioshock 2 is my favorite game, which is double weird all things considered.)
-When I went to the Milwaukee museum on a recent trip to Wisconsin and had to walk past both a Giant Mammoth skeleton in the lobby and under a giant whale skeleton on the stairs leading to the main museum. (Oddly enough, humpback whales are my favorite animal.)
-On the same trip up north as listed above, when I went to both the Science and Industry Museum and the Field Museum in Chicago and I had to walk around both a TON of Dinosaur skeletons and statues along with the U-505 submarine (which I have been afraid of ever since I first saw it as a small child.)
Now, my fears have gotten better as I've gotten older. They were horrible when I was a kid, to the point where my parents dragging me towards certain things made me scream, but now, as an adult, I've made a lot of progress in facing my phobias. My most recent success in this regard was on the aforementioned trip up north when we went to go see the U-505 Submarine at the Chicago museum of Science and Industry. As I said, I've been scared of it ever since I first saw it as a kid and it still made me uncomfortable when I went to see it as an adult; however, knowing how much I love shipwrecks and maritime history, I told myself that I needed to get over it and actually made a very thorough walk-around of the Sub. I even leaned over the railing on the catwalk to touch her at multiple points, something I could've never done as a child.

Even though this gives me the creeps, I still wanna experience that IRL, like a deep vast blew atmosphere, and you're swimming towards it, and then at the end you see a blurry silhouette that is becoming clearer and clearer, and you see a rusty torn down ship. It sounds scary and what I picture on my head is even scarier, but I still would LOVE to have an opportunity to dive and go there.

I have submechanophobia but have it more in relation to submerged machinery like animatronics, the sight of the Titanic is fascinating to me but the sight of the abandoned 20,000 leagues under the sea animatronics make me want to remove my skin and die!

oh shit it's literally Thalassophobia 2: the electric boogaloo
i mean, i feel like those 2 fears go hand in hand, because the fucking deep dark murky water is scary enough, now you have this huge fucking hazardous object in it that could crush you at any moment without a warning or could produce a super loud sound that could leave you deaf (or take sonar for example, it's so loud that it could kill you if you're not far away)
speaking of which, gigantic manmade objects MOVING in water or underwater, like submarines or cruise ships or something like that, big submechanophobia trigger (at least for me)

Ya see, I'm scared to death of fish. Not sharks, whales, dolphins. Just fish. Gold fish are fine as long as they are tiny as fuck. The bigger, the worse it gets.
