This was fun! For the record, I think Station Eleven is a near perfect novel. I read it when it first came out and it's still swimming around on my head and heart. I loved it so much. ❤️📚
i find it interesting that you didn't like Legends and Lattes, but you like Becky Chambers' books a lot, since both are "cozy". i do think becky chambers is much better when it comes to writing characters, so the low stakes aren't really noticeable sometimes.
I loved Legends and Lattes but this is probably because I really needed that book at the time. I do believe our life experiences can both positively and negatively affect the way we feel about a book. I plan to read both Razorblade Tears and The Reformatory in 2025.
Great video! If you haven't read The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara, I highly recommend it. It's completely different than A Little Life, but just as engrossing. I also loved I'll be Gone in the Dark. It painted such a fascinating portrait of California during that time period, which was an element I wasn't expecting but very much enjoyed. Thanks so much and have a great day :)
I've got a couple for your TBR. ;) Babel is great! Caste is phenomenal. I read that years ago and I still think about it. I'm moving Station Eleven up on my TBR.
I've read 3 books on this list ! Surprised I had that many 🤭 The Spy and the Traitor is phenomenal, but it's not about Kim Philby, that'd be A Spy Among Friends 😉
´Babel´ and ´The House in the Cerulean Sea´ and ´Circe´, oh I love those, I hope you´ll read them! I think you´d maybe really like Babel. All of them are so wonderful. Of course, nothing has broken my heart as much as A Little Life. Still looking for something so devastating and beautiful. My favourite book of all time, probably. I liked Project Hail Mary (as an audiobook) a lot; wasn´t a big fan on ´All Systems Red´. ´I´ll be gone in the dark´ sounds interesting.
I have to put a plug in for what I think is the best fiction book in the past 3 years Demon Copperhead Kingsolver writes a book like David Copperfield but writes a book about character who grows up in Appalachia and the drug culture Read it You won’t be sorry, I promise
I also unfortunately did not get in to Legends and Lattes. I was so caught up in the hype I got Bookshops and Bonedust also-big regret but important lesson learned-do your research before purchasing!
I really enjoyed Dark Matter (Blake Crouch ) I had only seen the TV adaptation of wayward pines which I had fun with despite the cliffhanger ending ... couldn't get onto the TV adaption of Dark Matter I ended up giving it to a friends non reading husband to try.. Really want to read Piranesi not sure if I will ever be able to read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell as it's too long for my current brain sadly. I'm terms of the YA watch Heart stopper the TV show it's incredibly wholesome and lovely highly recommend
Dark Matter was fine for me...not great but it was fine. Didn't make me want to read more of his works, though. The Murderbot Diaries series was fantastic. My husband & I are huge fans. I could relate to Sec Unit and his struggle with understanding his emotions & not wanting to feel emotions. LOL I love The Handmaid's Tale and have heard similar sentiments toward The Testaments, but I am apprehensive about reading it. Part of Your World is the only romance I read this year. Not a fan of romance but it was the book chosen for the book club I'm in. It was awful. Don't read it. I will likely never read another book by her either. Hidden Pictures was pretty good. I'm not a fan of thrillers but I thought that was pretty good. The Spy & The Traitor is on my TBR. Killers of the Flower Moon & The Wager were very good but his writing style isn't for everyone.
Kind of only loosely related but when do you write off a writer? Or do you? I read Jason Rukulak's Hidden Pictures and got so irritated at it and the ridiculous reveal/ending. And then for whatever reason I picked up his latest book, The Last One at the Wedding, and the whole thing irritated me. I'm never going back.

Read The Reformatory! It’s brilliant. I also really enjoyed The Frozen River.
I'm currently rereading The Murderbot Diaries.
It's one of my comfort reads.

You absolutely *need* to read The Reformatory and Monstrillio. They are perfection 🤌🤌
Definite yes to Reformatory. I haven't read Monstrillio.
Definitely read The Frozen River. That was my favorite read of the year.
I didn't like Legends & Lattes either. I totally should have. I'm a D&D fan, I love cozy stories, & was so excited to read it.

I loved Legends and Lattes. I told my friend it’s like being hugged by a book. I finished it and was like “I needed that.”

This video was So interesting because i almost never hear you talking about these more popular mainstream books.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is one of my all time favorite novels. You should definitely give it a try.

Really enjoyed the Fifth season and currently reading the second book in the series.
Bad Blood is a great read about the whole Theranos debacle and how one person conned everyone to invest in technology that didn't work.
I have to put a plug in for what I think is the best fiction book in the past 3 years
Demon Copperhead
Kingsolver writes a book like David Copperfield but writes a book about character who grows up in Appalachia and the drug culture
Read it

Move The Reformatory to the top of your target Ollie! I couldn't put it down
*tbr
I’m surprised to find that I’ve read one or two of these too.

Killers of the Flower Moon and The Wager are both excellent.

Maybe I should give Taylor Jenkins Reid another chance, when I've read her in the past I found her to be a modern day Jacqueline Susan.
I think that’s a completely accurate description. Full disclosure: I love Jacqueline Susann
