💯 agree with you about cleaning new air rifle barrels, many Facebook “experts” say I’m wrong.. but I always do it. Then lead them in, and. Only clean again if accuracy drops off, works for me…..
Newbies need to know that each individual barrel will shoot different pellets, weights, head size and brand. also when changing pellets, groups can start off like a shotgun spread at first and very often a dozen pellets or so will tighten the group.👍
I once was talking to a benchrest shooter and I was saying I only clean my bore when I get a new rifle or it's got wet or your POI wonders off and he argued black and blue and said you need to clean your bore after every shoot ,then I said to him "why do you shoot 5 to 10 rounds through your rifle before you shoot your comp card" he said "they are fouling shots" I then said " there you go you need to lead in or fouling shots for your rifle to perform " I used to make the same mistake as in my skill at arms test as we were tought to clean your rifle after range work ,but that was the days of old cordite powders ,no need to clean with modern powders or airguns ,😊
Between you and the people here in the comments I think anything I have to say is covered..A quality barrel properly maintained is so important and why I'd recommend that if you're on a restricted budget a quality 2nd rifle is the best bet👍
Usually allow around 20 too see results start to close up, by 30 - 40 generally back to normal, usually do the leading in at home, prior to going to the range, and usually with the pellet of that particular rifle, but yeah, when accuracy goes off, especially with a specific rifle / pellet "marriage" time for a pull through and re - lead..
I might be going against the grain here but I have an AGT Vixen .177 long and I find it’s more accurate just after I have cleaned the barrel. After 100+ rounds I notice flyers in my groups (10gr zan slugs). After I clean it with a pull through it’s instantly back to being laser. First rifle I’ve ever owned to be that way 🤷🏻♂️
Is it fac? Zan slugs is your answer mate I know the barrel can take slugs all day but at 12ft pound they will drop out the end of the barrel like a cartoon!
I’ve only just come back air rifles after a 20 year absence, and this is great advice re getting the best out of my new purchase, many thanks. I’ve given you a sub after a recommendation from PiperX1X, glad I’ve found your channel 👍
Welcome back mate hope you’re finding your feet! RUclips is great for help, tips & advice just stay away from the experts and massive channels with big sponsors etc they all paid to say great things about crap products. Thanks for joining me here at ritr. Denny. P.s just subbed 🎯
@@Ratsinthereticles I’ll take that onboard, I’ve noticed with archery gear that big channels do tend to push kit that I know isn’t as good as they’re suggesting, so it makes perfect sense that the same applies to air rifle channels. All the best, Steve
