Going back to older Daytonas, the 955i from the late 90’s and early 2000’s wasn’t as aggressive as the liter bikes of its day. And according to rider triangles the new Daytona is pretty close to the CBR650R, slightly more aggressive actually with the reach to the bars being a tad longer as they are a tad lower. Still doesn’t change my mind on this bike, I think it’s an excellent daily rider sport bike.

Some people need to chill out and understand the market. The old Daytona is not what the majority of people are looking for. Just because a few people want it doesn't mean they can just make a model for those few people. An example of this would be the Thruxton. Sales sucked on those the last couple years (I work at a dealership). The Speed Twin far out sold the Thruxton so the it was cut.
Thruxton deserved a place in the market... but the only reason why it didn't sell more, was its high price. We could also have a Thruxton with no Ohlins (just as MotoGuzzi did with their V100 Mandello) or even a lighter and more fun new Thruxton 900.
i own a speedtwin 1200 and ive been looking for a beginner sportsbike to get started on the track, and i think this is gonna be the one! i really love the looks of it
It's not a supersport, it's a sports tourer. We had this same issue with the R7 where people didn't like the idea of it taking the old one name and yet it's been a success. I personally think for the money I rather like the new Suzuki GXS-8r more, again not fit for purpose if compared to old GSX-R 750.
It’s where they have lowered to bar to see what they can actually sell at that price.... it’s pathetic compared to the almost the same price speed triple 765 R - 10k for non adjustable suspension suspension ????? Get real.
I like very much the concept of this bike: sporty but suitable for longer rides. The name is not a priority for me. It is the top 3 bikes to buy in the next year. I had a Speed Triple and currently own a Thruxton with clips and a lot of upgrades
Good video and I can appreciate each perspective. There is no lack of passion with bikers! That is surely one of the draws! I own a Daytona 600, Daytona 765 Moto 2 and a Street Triple Moto 2. The branding is not such a bother to me personally. What does matter is whether sitting on this bike will feel like I am on another part of the Triumph line up. And given that I just sat on one two days ago... I can say it does. And thus I am sold...or bought. I literally pre-bought one on the spot. 😂
Most of the push back I have seen online has been about the name, how this does not deserve to be called a Daytona. My arguments are: 1). A 660 Daytona does not change that a 675 Daytona existed, they can exist together in one world for anyone mature enough to accept it and move on. Look at the fuss that was made about the R7, people have now accepted it and moved on and it's a great bike that seems to be doing very well for Yamaha. 2). Daytona is probably the best name for Triumph from a copyright POV in ALL its target markets (I worked in Global Marketing, copyright is a big challenge to negotiate) 3). Daytona has not always represented track focused high performance machines. One example in 2005 Triumph released a 650 Daytona effectively removing itself from the 600 racing class. Earlier Daytona's were built to compete directly with the old CBR600F which in itself was more road friendly. 4). There is so much choice ATM, as consumers we are spoilt, I love seeing a road friendly, approachable Daytona appealing to and attracting newer riders to a sport where the demographic is aging. Thanks for doing this Motobob, love your content!
CB and CBR650's, R7 and MT07, Ninja 650 and Z650, all of the major brands have found a good market to go into, especially considering the markets in other countries where you have restricted licensing, a2, lams etc where your bike has to be restricted out of the box essentially to be able to ride it as a newer rider, I think the trident was a good naked version, it was sort of inevitable for someone who has a a reputation for doing mainly naked, speed and street triple etc for daily riders to do a sports bike that isn't full super sport tuck. The name daytona is reference to their sports models, same as the ninja/zx line up, cbr, R series, you get the point, it gives options for everyone so instead of splitting the brand and forcing us other brands like yamaha for sports bikes, you can split it into different models, with similar components but different skin as at the end of the day WE LOVE HOW THEY LOOK otherwise we wouldn't own them. So major props to them for giving it a whirl after how successful the trident was, seen heaps here in Australia.
People seem to look for reasons to get their panties twisted nowadays. The Daytona name has been on at least ten other Triumph models. None of the ones that followed the preceding one was the same spec and usually not the same cc or even the same number of cylinders. I don’t purchase the bike for the model name but what I can do with it. The new bike doesn't diminish the previous Daytona name or the ones before it. It is done all the time with Honda, Royal Enfield, Kawasaki, Harley and Suzuki just to name a few. Triumph has carried legacy names like Trophy, Trident, Bonneville, and Thruxton over many many times and none of these were like the original.
I understand people wanting a supersport bike. I own a 2022 speed triple 1200rr because I wanted a new daytona. To be fully honest I almost have to go to the chiropractor every time I ride it and the power it's insane for the street. It's almost imposible to shift to second gear on the city. My previous bike was a Aprillia RSV4 and I had the same issues. I believed that the speed triple was a little more confortable (the clip ons are a little higher) and with 30 less hp (201 vs 178) I could get to the road easily without struggling so much on the city. Also having the semi active suspension with "confort mode" would create a good road bike. I was totally wrong. It's still 100% a supersport aimed only for the track. I think this bike fills that gap. I'm pretty sure it's going to be my next bike.
Really love your content. Triumph should really produce this in India. The scrambler and naked 400 will be a success. I am really a fan of 600+ cc motorbikes. But due to CBU/ CKD, it really becomes too expensive to purchase. This is applicable to every motorbike company in the world
Bikes like this are the perfect entry point into larger capacity bikes in markets like India where daily riding is almost a necessity for many, especially since this general populous top out at around 400cc/40ish HP even with this likes of the RE650s. The pricing is also accessible enough where people here can actually buy the bloody thing without having to sell a kidney, so regardless of how many keep shitting on the Daytona branding, it's definitely a bike I'm considering as an upgrade from my speed400
A really interesting vid. We were at the Triumph Visitor Experience, looked at the Moto 2 Daytona 765 and the proper old Daytona 675 race bikes in the museum. Then looked at this new 660. Its a great looking bike and it should sell well. I'm still on the fence if it's worth the Daytona name.
It’s only good and competitive when compared to r7, 8r and cbr650r.... when you look at a motorcycle that is used or 5% more money, all 4 are drastically lacking.
Who are sports motorbikes made for? Which age groups have taken up motorcycling in recent years and currently? Does this group really want a radical sports motorbike with low handlebars that leads to sore wrists after a while? And do they want to be so intensively involved in sporty motorcycling that they can master high-performance motorbikes? I think the Daytona 660 is well positioned for the market with its parameters. It's suitable for versatile road use, doesn't overpower, delivers enough power to have fun with 95bhp and will appeal to a wide range of potential buyers. If you want something much sportier, there are other machines.
Even though the 660 isn't as track focused or premium as the 675 I believe it's a more realistic bike for day to day riding, IMO the perceived "insult" a lot of Yamaha aficionados felt when they named a 680 parallel twin the R7 broke the ice for Triumph to use the Daytona name, one consolation fans of the old Daytona should have will be the 660 being the fastest of the budget sports middleweights and knowing Triumph almost certainly the best handling.
I still don 't know why Triumph insists so much on that 660 c.c. platform (which feels more like a well-tuned 4-cylinder engine) and doesn 't use more the 765 c.c. engine, which is truly wonderful. I would love to see a street sport bike Daytona 765 (not just that limited, expensive, track-oriented "Moto2" version), or even a new Sprint 765. An everyday bike capable of taking a passenger, making small or longer trips and at the same time being able to have lots of fun in the twisties. Not everyone has the ability to do "track days"... and the best twisties are usually quite a distance from the urban areas, where most people live!
I ride a CBR650F - you won't regret it, that inline 4 is so smooth, it's got the revs for sporty riding but it's also really easy to use around town - sounds great with the akra pipe too.
I'm defo getting the cbr. But the Akra over here is just a waste of money, we can't leagally use it wihout the db-killer in and with it in it sounds stock. Just stock with a pricetag of 1600€@@ByronWWW
@@Daniel-dj7fh I haven't taken the dB killer out of mine and it's loud enough to fuck my hearing up on an hour long ride if I don't have ear plugs in (right ear will be ringing all night). Bought the bike used with it on, probably wouldn't have stumped up that sort of money myself.
I own the 765 R 2024 street triple. I got it because I couldn’t stand the RS dash. I’m surprised it has so much hate. In person it is actually one of my favorite layouts
I have two opinions about this. First more personal one...I started on a ZX-6R from 2005...so when 600 were crazy...including the Daytona...now seeing the new one which looks more sports touring like...the disappointing just jumps up a bit. BUT and this a big one. If I think on riding on legendary names in the car industry with sth like the Mustang Mach E...I think the new Daytona still honors the name a lot better 😅
The thing is at my market. You can get unridden -22 rs660for 13.7k€ and 514km ridden for 12.5k€ where as daytona is 13k€ here so tbh you can get a really good deal on a rs660 currently edit: also found a un used -21 tuono660 for 12.2k€ with factory warranty
Glad you mentioned the Aprilia. RRP is higher than some of the bikes mentioned, e.g. R7, but the fact is you can get Aprilias for below RRP. In terms of bang for the buck the 660 Aprilias are excellent and way more advanced than this new Triumph or the R7. Better components and superb styling too.
think of it this way. the ZX6R and the 650 both have the Ninja moniker. the 660 is by no way a 675 replacement, just another bike bearing the Daytona name
They truly should have left any restrictions available for A2 on the other 660s and off of the Daytona as they likely could get motor up to 100 hp, much more of a match with super sport name and intent for the bike
I think if Triumph had just lazily stuck the base 660 engine in a Trident frame with fairing stuck on, it would’ve been a big disappointment, however, I think there are enough overall tweaks with this model, and the fact Triumph have tuned a fair chunk more power out of the engine, to just about justify the Daytona name - but I agree with other people saying it should have been called a Sprint, not a Daytona. Just like the new GSX 8R should have been called the GSX-8F, as it’s just a faired version of the base, naked bike.
If you dont do too much track riding, which lets be honest, its not as much as it seems, ppl go 3 times per year and thinking themselves racers or track addict :p these are vehicles, tools that serve a purpose. Yes daytona 675 was more powerful but so what? They stopped producing it and said the one with moto2 carbon edition was the last one ever… would it be better if there were no mid size sporty bike with fairing from triumph? Most people commenting with a very narrow vision, just because its a british brand you live in uk, they designed this just for you lol. Also be smart, engines getting stronger, but traffic rules are not getting updated, security features are improving but speed limits are not… also there are cameras everywhere and they dint need humans anymore they just send you ticket… bikes over 100 hp is not realistic whatever you think or like, on average in practicality, 100hp is more then enough, +20 hp would make you smile a bit more for like 2 seconds but, i also would rather have best all rounded sporty mid size bike, rather than a stupid legacy that was discontinued. You can technicaly compare this sith aprillia but this is fkin way better and reliable then aprillia… honda is 4 cyclinder and old and heavy, r7 has both ups and downs. This bike is perfect.
Great bike, pity about the A2 cap on power. It needs the suspension from an R7 and to finally lose that stupid dash. The Street Triples need new dashes too.
Street Sport might be a new genre for these kinds of bikes…less aggressive and performance oriented than true super sport bikes fr the track, but geared more for lively everyday real world use.
I wasn't impressed initially I wanted it to be an RS660 competitor, but after thinking about it and the PHR kit that's been developed for it, if they make Daytona 660R with better suspension, better exhaust and better dash and lost some weight? it would be more expensive but I think it would hit the mark, personally not interested in the 675 I come from T595 and 650 Daytona's.
first impression without knowing much: very excited for a triple sport in the 600 class, but the externals look dated so heres to hoping the internals are not
The Trident dash looked cleaner and more exclusive compared to the Daytona. The shape and white lines to the warning lights makes it look cheap and toyish. Otherwise the Daytona looks great.
I didn't know that the RS660 has such a relaxed seating position. It looks rather like a "real" sports bike. The Daytona 660 doesn't. I think the RS 660 hit the spot, where it looks just like a sports bike, but still is quite comfortable. That would have suited the Daytona as well, especially with the history of its name
People tutting and clucking about the Daytona name, lamenting it being nothing like the original bikes, etc,etc The fact is if they re-released the earlier bike, vloggers would whinge about hurty wrists and back and sales would tank from the off. Speed Triple RR anybody??
Triumph don,t normally get their marketing wrong. But i think they have on this one. Will never persuade Street 765 RS owners to change to a (sports bike) which is slower in all aspects. Bring back the Daytonna 765.
I've got to say MotoBob, I've noticed your audience always seems to spark massive depates in your comment section, more of this type of video would be interesting for new bikes.
Someone else recently stated that Triumph chose to avoid creating a 765 Daytona to avoid cannibalizing their Moto2 line of bikes, thought that made sense.
They could have just stuck on a fairing on the Moto 2 Street Triple. It already has clip ons on it. The rider's triangle is pretty aggressive. The Moto 2 just looks odd as a naked with clip ons
How about making a proper street bike, capable of 2-people riding, everyday commuting, yet of having fun in the twisties, with the 765 cc engine? And I will not give a damn about how it will be named!
Shouldn't pay too much attention to comments, it's mostly people sitting home bored and having nothing better to do than commenting on every video. If comments were relevant, nobody in the world would buy BMW GSes, and everyone would ride 1000 cc supersports on track.
No they wouldn’t, been riding by 52 years , Fireblades , R1 s ok but waste of time on the road you only use half the hp , and the extra weight, swapped to a tiger sport 660 nice and light , handles well , no need for quick shifter (not on the track ) clutch action really light 1//4 inch in you’ve changed gear . And just right for power 😊👍👍
Clearly this is a coice for new or inexperienced riders. The first taste of somewhat sporty riding on public roads. Direct competitor for the r7 or aprilia 660. And what mora a 20yo could dream about with limited resources?
A name is a name. The Trident was a badder a$$ bike back in the day too. The power is fine. Probably really perfect for a street bike. But I can't get over the lack of adjustable suspension. The R7 and RS660 both have it. It is really a non-starter for me. I love Triumph and am getting my 5th Triumph bike in a month, but if I was in the market for a middleweight sport bike I would go Yamaha or Aprilia. And, sad to say, the more I look at this bike the more it looks like a Honda to me. Pretty cookie cutter. It's disappointing seeing as how nice the Trident looks and how the Street and Speed Triple are the most sexy things around.
Great video as always, cracks me up all these 675 owners and ex owners bitchin and moaning that's its not worthy of the Daytona name, like to see how many would buy it if it was more focused and 13-15k hardly any that's why they don't make one anyone like most other manufactures hence why you now have these more road compliant versions. It's a business there running to make and sale bikes and what the market wants.
Like the look of it , but please, please triumph and other manufacturers, stop putting those ridiculous uncomfortable metal foot pegs on bikes , everyone I know changes them for rubber pegs , so just stop putting them on 👍👍
The bike is in a good price and looks good… But that’s it, the brakes and forks are on the cheap side and the dash looks like it is from 5 years ago, would rather pay a little more and get other bike It is cheap and it looks cheap
Everything has become sterile due to financial and regulation restraints. Wasn't it great in past decades where bikes were manufactured just because they could without restrictions.

@@kaveiros75 Well you got it all figured out now. Call up Triumph and let them know the error in their ways. LMFAO!!!
I think New Daytona is a good choice for many motorcyclists...commuter, universal bike
i own a speedtwin 1200 and ive been looking for a beginner sportsbike to get started on the track, and i think this is gonna be the one! i really love the looks of it
765cc or bust.
Yes. Is the 41bhp twin Daytona “not a true Daytona “?
WOAH! Never imagined my comment would be discussed this way. And thank you for discussing it
I was planning on getting Tiger 660 after winter but seeing Daytona 660 making me rethink
By the way, definitely I prefer a Trident Neptune kit fitted.
Classy and gorgeous, with an analog dashboard.
I already contacted our dealer here in the philippines but it will only be available in March. I'm lined up, see you in March or April red daytona!❤
It should be named 660sport then everyone would be happy
Totally agree.
The Jacksonville 660
Enjoying your review videos, greetings from Istanbul 🖐🏻🖐🏻🖐🏻
Even though the 660 isn't as track focused or premium as the 675 I believe it's a more realistic bike for day to day riding, IMO the perceived "insult" a lot of Yamaha aficionados felt when they named a 680 parallel twin the R7 broke the ice for Triumph to use the Daytona name, one consolation fans of the old Daytona should have will be the 660 being the fastest of the budget sports middleweights and knowing Triumph almost certainly the best handling.
..its absolutely optimum to put a smile on face while riding.....
I really like it. It's on my short list for this spring.
Once you said “it’s restricted for A2….😒”…..already messed up the “Daytona” name. But that being said I still like it😂
The real problem is that whenever a younger rider says "Daytona" I won't know which bike they're talking about...
Remember the Daytona 650 four-cylinder years ago? That's basically what this is doing. But people forget that due to the 675 and 765 distraction.
It's a really nice sports-tourer, but I don't know about the Daytona name.
I'm still going for the cbr650r tho.
Haha, I can’t stand this dash. The only show stopper for me here
You should do a stats and drive comparison with this new Triumph 660 and the Aprilla RS660
I prefer the old shape personally 😊Pete
Definatelly! It looks wilder, thinner and sexier with its less plastic.
It might not have the right name. Still, I've ordered mine in white.
I look forward to your introduction of the 2025 VFR 800R. If anything like that will ever exist. ❤😅
Triumph should offer a super sport kit for the street triple RS.
In my city there is a 2019 cb1000r with 1600 miles for the same price as this.....
An RS 660 isn’t better than speed triple 765 or a used cb1000r - both cheaper.
@@ellwoodwolf We are talking about new bikes here since the Daytona 660 is new.
Where I live the RS660 is 27-35% more expensive than the R7. More than a Street Triple R, which is quicker.
think of it this way. the ZX6R and the 650 both have the Ninja moniker. the 660 is by no way a 675 replacement, just another bike bearing the Daytona name
They truly should have left any restrictions available for A2 on the other 660s and off of the Daytona as they likely could get motor up to 100 hp, much more of a match with super sport name and intent for the bike
Great video bro!
In my opinion, the white one attracted my attention.
Behold for 765 version
Looks like a street triple with fairing.
Way more people will buy a 660 over the 675. Blame the MT07. Triumph smelt w way the wind was blowing
first impression without knowing much: very excited for a triple sport in the 600 class, but the externals look dated so heres to hoping the internals are not
It looks dated because it’s basically a Honda cbr650r that has been out for years
Any bike over 130+ hp good for track however not suitable for city use
Now update the other models that use this engine
They gotta milk it for a year more, then in 2 years the Jacksonville 660, I mean Daytona 660 will get the speed triple fully adjustable suspension
The Trident dash looked cleaner and more exclusive compared to the Daytona. The shape and white lines to the warning lights makes it look cheap and toyish. Otherwise the Daytona looks great.
I have 675 and it is a proper weapon. Is the 660 up there?
I will ride a 660 (soon) to redline and see if I get the same buzz?
Spoiler alert. You won't!
The RS660 still does have a more aggressive riding position, it’s just not as aggressive as a true 600 super sport like an R6 or ZX6R…
@@sleeper.simulant7327 yes, but it does look sporty enough to not be classified as a sports tourer
People tutting and clucking about the Daytona name, lamenting it being nothing like the original bikes, etc,etc
The fact is if they re-released the earlier bike, vloggers would whinge about hurty wrists and back and sales would tank from the off.
Speed Triple RR anybody??
Triumph don,t normally get their marketing wrong. But i think they have on this one. Will never persuade Street 765 RS owners to change to a (sports bike) which is slower in all aspects. Bring back the Daytonna 765.
Please do a review on Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 2024 model
I've got to say MotoBob, I've noticed your audience always seems to spark massive depates in your comment section, more of this type of video would be interesting for new bikes.
It's not the 675 that we hoped for though, the engine is as restricted as the trident. Not a daytona, its more of a CBR650R "touring" style motorbike.
It’s a cbr650r, but in triple......
@@notimportant1816 That would've been the preferred method, agreed but wondering if their decision not to came down to the accountants.
How about making a proper street bike, capable of 2-people riding, everyday commuting, yet of having fun in the twisties, with the 765 cc engine? And I will not give a damn about how it will be named!
It deserves the Daytona title as much as the R7 deserves to be and R….. bikes companies are all pathetic these days
imagine if they mad a 400 and brought back the 765
Shouldn't pay too much attention to comments, it's mostly people sitting home bored and having nothing better to do than commenting on every video. If comments were relevant, nobody in the world would buy BMW GSes, and everyone would ride 1000 cc supersports on track.
You’re aware of the irony with your comment right? 😂
But I do agree with your opinion nonetheless 😜
Does that include this comment?🤦🏻♂️
No they wouldn’t, been riding by 52 years , Fireblades , R1 s ok but waste of time on the road you only use half the hp , and the extra weight, swapped to a tiger sport 660 nice and light , handles well , no need for quick shifter (not on the track ) clutch action really light 1//4 inch in you’ve changed gear . And just right for power 😊👍👍
Will be a good bike but the "Daytona" moniker is what concerns me 😮
This is not even a clone 😂
Clearly this is a coice for new or inexperienced riders. The first taste of somewhat sporty riding on public roads. Direct competitor for the r7 or aprilia 660. And what mora a 20yo could dream about with limited resources?
u guys r forgettin abt the new 2024 zx6r
Bars are too low for this bike. It’s not a supersport yet the bars are still 85% focused in that category.
Why not name it TT ?
Nice cfmoto
Front looks like a old R1
Just make a 130+ hp 765 daytona like kawasaki that have both ninja650 and zx6r
Putting this bike up against something like the ninja 650 and its a no brainer. But up against a 600 super sport and yeah it’s not going to do so well
Calling it daytona is purely for marketing purposes. Should have called it trident RR.
Looks like a ninja 650r
Great video as always, cracks me up all these 675 owners and ex owners bitchin and moaning that's its not worthy of the Daytona name, like to see how many would buy it if it was more focused and 13-15k hardly any that's why they don't make one anyone like most other manufactures hence why you now have these more road compliant versions. It's a business there running to make and sale bikes and what the market wants.
92hp? enough said. (X) That's a sackable offence to all involved with that concept.
They should not have used not name Daytona.... Could have be Tiger super sport etc...
The aluminium effect plastic on the frame is just awful, literally hiding what it really is.
BRO! You just saved any interest I had in this machine if thats true. JC thats terrible.
Like the look of it , but please, please triumph and other manufacturers, stop putting those ridiculous uncomfortable metal foot pegs on bikes , everyone I know changes them for rubber pegs , so just stop putting them on 👍👍
The bike is in a good price and looks good…
But that’s it, the brakes and forks are on the cheap side and the dash looks like it is from 5 years ago, would rather pay a little more and get other bike
It is cheap and it looks cheap
Everything has become sterile due to financial and regulation restraints. Wasn't it great in past decades where bikes were manufactured just because they could without restrictions.
It's hardly looks like a daytona
