Well, Cracker Barrel isn’t as old as Sears or Radio Shack was when they flamed out. Give it another twenty years to see if they survive near the seventy-five year mark.

When our kids were growing up, our favorite Saturday morning activity was to fill up the minivan, and have breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Now they’re all gone, and after eight years of cancer, I have diabetes caused by the treatments and can’t eat the food there that I loved. I miss it every time I get driven by the same place we loved so much. Thanks for making these videos which bring back better days.

In all our family road trips into the South in the 70s and early 80s we never saw a Cracker Barrel. But then sometime in the 90s or 2000s we saw one and ate there. I loved it. I distinctly remember the peg games on the tables. We have one Cracker Barrel here in NJ that I know about, but I've never been there. It's way too far away to be worth going to without being in the area for something else. That chicken and dumplings sounds good, about now.🙂

These are still around. I just had take-out from Cracker Barrel yesterday. It's delicious.
You can get breakfast any time. They make a mean sirloin steak dinner. On sundays they make a really great fried chicken dinner.
Good times. The front of the store is filled with games, collectibles, and retro candy.
2:45 That's exactly what it looks like inside a Cracker Barrel. I love it when it's a cold day and we get a seat near that huge fireplace. So toasty.

Dan Evans was a good and honorable man. His word, and his handshake were as good as gold. Unfortunately after he passed away, the company decided to go back on several promises he made in small towns to mom-and-pop family restaurants do not compete directly with them. Other than that transgression, it is a very good company. An interesting side note, you should look up the Casey Jones Country Store & Buffet in Jackson Tennessee. That is that is where Dan got the idea for the Cracker Barrel store. The Casey Jones store is like a Cracker Barrel on steroids. Truly impressive and worth checking out if you're in the area.

When Cracker Barrel first came to the Columbus OH market around 1990, we would eat at one close to us about once a week. Always had good food but I feel the brand has gone down a bit over the decades. The first Christmas season at the local site , they had the best cinnamon rolls (not overly sweet) & then the next holiday season, they changed it to biscuits with a cinnamon topping. I asked the server what happened to the cinnamon rolls from last year & she said the biscuits were more cost effective. Wish they still had their beef stew, 14 day aged ribeye (so tender) & the baked potato done in bags & put in rosin water were the best (there were some safety issues that caused the change). Also, when the menu used to say the vanilla bean ice cream was made exclusively for Cracker Barrel, there were specks of vanilla bean but now it seems more generic. Overall, it still has pretty tasty food.

I worked at Cracker Barrel for a couple years in the mid '90's when I was going to school!.. (North of Atlanta and during the Olympics) .. I worked the gift shop and Cashier.. I loved working there.. Loved to come to work that first day when they would light up the big fireplace in the late fall.. Smelt like home! This single mother/college student was fed well those years and loved every bite!.. You hear people who have worked at restaurants tell you "Oh.. I would not eat there!".. after they had seen their practices..but.. I still go to that exact Cracker Barrel and eat all the time.. still love the smell of that fireplace and love roaming the gift shop.. The menu changes slightly as you travel north to more adapt to that region.. but it was funny as we would have people come come in and want to sample "a grit" or one fried okra!.. LOL.. I also met a lot of celebrities as Cracker Barrel would feed them for free.. Mostly touring musicians.. Great years.. Fond memories!.. Thank you so much for honoring them and I love your channel!.. Thank you for all you do!

I like the 'vibe' of these stores, but their food is not that great. Also, I miss the old ways. I would pay good money to go into a theme restaurant where the kitchen staff was all dressed up like Mammy from Gone With the Wind, and the waitresses all dressed like Prissy, and the food was good ol' Southern style: Grits and eggs, or Red Eye Gravy. Lunch was: a tall glass of fresh cold milk and some cornbread soaking in it. Dinner was Pork Chops on the bone with Mashed potatoes or Liver and Onions. Chicken and homemade dumplings (you know the kind of food women used to make at home before they abandoned their roles of housewife so they could go serve some other man a Mc Donald's sandwich. Go Figure.

Your lucky then cause I’m in NC and I haven’t had a good meal in a good number of years now. I used to go weekly but the food and service started dropping off so I started going monthly and it never got any better so I gave up and figured I’d give someone who cared my money so I hadn’t been in over a year until this February and only reason I went then is because a buddy of mine gave me a Cracker Barrel gift card and like a fool, I used part of it for a dinner and it reminded me real quick as to why I don’t go anymore!! There’s still some money left on that card but it will never be enough to get me to go back! They’ve burnt their bridge and between the restaurant and the gift shop, I bet I used to spend $6-$8k a year there but evidently that’s not enough to get decent food, and I’m not picky at all!! This chain has fallen off the cliff!!

They have an excellent Ruben !!!! And salad 😋😋 love the gift shop ❤️ love that they have old candies as well! They used to put hand cream in the ladies bathroom way back when. The place is always clean and very friendly.

I stopped in the Lancaster Cracker Barrel today for lunch. Since the line was so long, I asked for an iced tea to go instead. They gave it to me for free. Random tidbit, that location is one of two in Pennsylvania not located on an Interstate; both are on Rt. 30. I don't recall any others that aren't on an Interstate.

There is one in Lynchburg, VA not on an interstate. It's just off U.S. 29, which may be upgraded to one in the future.

As a 70 yr old Tennessean who has loved these from the start ,I was so happy when they started spreading across the country so I could eat good down home food as I traveled all over the country. Good wholesome Southern food makes everyone feel good. Even up north. I hope his family keeps running it and wish them well. Thank you Cracker Barrel for all the good memories.

You hit another one out of the park! An excellent retrospective on an American institution in the food service industry. How about doing one for my favorite restaurant Bob Evans!

Lets hope they dont get sucked up by a 'private equity firm' and be gutted..... like so many other American institutions that are now either gone or shadows of what they once were.

Here in Buffalo, we had two(2) locations, both by the I-90 Thruway... Blasdell/Hamburg near McKinley Mall, and Lancaster/Williamsville near the Airport. The Lancaster location still operates today, and it's pretty much packed all the time. The other location became a sports bar; my wife and I went there after the Eagles(#FlyEaglesFly) whupped the Bills a year and a half ago.

First time I was in a CB was in 1986 in TN or KY. I remember their "rosin-baked potatoes" wrapped in used menus. They were SO good, smoky flavored, but, CB quit making them as their menu offerings have become bland & "watered-down". I do only breakfast @ CB, now.

Ive watched them change over 20 some years. I like the store and the food but lately the store near me in davenport iowa has really slid. i went twice and my servers seemed like they wanted to be anywhere but doing their jobs, very disinterested in doing what they were paid to do and im not being racisist but keep your BLM attitude to yourself, im not interested. the worst part was someone behind us got something in their glass of water that had legs. maybe management needs to pay them more and weed out the ones who just dont cut it. ive talked to a few people who work there and they say that management is the worst and treats their staff like crap, arrogance runs supreme im told. but hey, thats happening all over. anyways, i love the food, get lots of it and rarely ever leave hungry, usually wanting a nap but just have to browse the country store after a good meal.
