- Goan Style Tomato Potato curry
Preparation Time: 30 Mins
Serving- 4 Persons
Ingredients
1. 3 Medium Potato
2. 2 Medium Onion Sliced
3. 3 Medium Tomatoes
4. 1/4 Coriander Leaves
5. 25 Curry Leaves
6. 1 Tsp Mustard Seeds
7. 2 Tablespoon Garam Masala
8. 1 Tsp Red Chillie Powder
9. 1 Tsp Tumeric Powder
10. 1 Cup Grated Coconut
11. 3 Garlic Cloves
12. 1-inch Piece of Ginger
13. Salt to Taste
14. 3 Tablespoon Oil
15. Water
Procedure
1. Cut Potatoes and Tomatoes into Square.
2. Add salt to Tomatoes and keep aside for marination, for 3 mins
3. In a Wok add 1 Tablespoon oil and sliced onion and garlic along with ginger, and saute for a minute now add curry leaves and coriander. Now, saute it till the onions turn golden brown.
4. Now add grated coconut and roast for a minute.
5. Add turmeric powder, Red chill Powder, and Garam Masala and mix well.
6. Now in a mixer grinder add all the roasted masala and grind well into a smooth paste.
7. Now in a pot add 2 Tablespoon oil, after heating adds mustard seeds to it. Now add curry Leaves and sliced onions and saute till the onions are golden brown.
8. Now add potatoes and saute for a minute.
9. Add water and salt and let it cook till potatoes are soft.
10. Add grounded masala to cooked potatoes.
11. After 1 boil add the tomatoes and let it simmer for a minute.
12. Add salt if needed.
13. Add coriander leaves and serve.

Hi, I wanted to ask that just before adding grated coconut for roasting, you had added Curry leaves too,if that mixture is ground to paste with curry leaves,won't it taste butter n color become dark?

Nowadays many Goan hotels don't serve this authentic " Tamat bhaji" they mostly do it kurma bhaji style with lots of magie ....

Excellent recipe. Stuck to the recipe for the most part. Just added about 3/4 tsp of jaggery powder at the end as a matter of personal preference.

But this Pest is just like konkani style pest. My native place is Ratnagiri. This is typical konkani style pest. Every Konkani person made this in daily use. But in our Pest, we fry only Onion, Fresh coconut, Ginger and Garlic. ( sometimes whole garam masala also for Eg coriander, black pepper etc ) .
But you add Fresh Coriander, Chilli powder, Garam Masala powder, Turmeric powder also. That is the difference. We used this pest in Chicken, Mutton, Crab Masala, Egg curry and few Vegetables recipes like Brinjal potato with dry fish ( जवळा or करंदी ) curry.
This is my grandma's recipe . I am glad you liked it. And dried fish with brinjal is best recipe during rains.

Its fresh coconut and salt is as per your taste .

Yes.
Garlic is not mandatory using in Goan food processing. But, mostly all goan foods are prepared using without garlic. Veg food are always prepared without using garlic.
Karnataka & Maharashtrians are always preparing thier food by always using garlic in all their food recipe's.
Garlic onion and ginger during festivals are not used in veg food. But on usual days we do add all the above.
Too much Garam masala - 2 tablespoons🤔
You can add less. I added as per my taste .
