remember seeing this movie as a teenager in the theater... everyone loved it! the kids would run to the stage and dance at the end of the movie... if it was a mess, it was a glorious one!
I believe Trumpet virtuoso / singer / producer / founder of A&M records Herb Alpert played the trumpet in the excellent theme of this classic carnival of a fun film .. A Phantasmagorical viewing experience !..😃😍
I wouldn't underestimate Casino Royale. The World has caught up with it. After many years I saw it again and funnily enough I thought, 'Not bad.' I think it has gathered an identity as surrealism.
Longtime favorite film, ever since I saw its NYC TV premiere (on a local station, oddly, it wasn't sold to the major 3 networks). And in the early 90s I happily told Burt Bacharach himself how much I loved the score (I used to be a limousine rep at LAX), and how frustrating the vinyl LP was out-of-print. He mailed me a homemade cassette of the soundtrack, with the sound of the stylus touching the vinyl at the start ! I like to think the master composer did that for me personally, but even it was an assistant of his....pretty damn special for me! Maybe a year later I returned the favor, in a way, when I told him the CD was finally out, and he didn't know that. I told him to stop by a Marina del Rey music store on his way home to Santa Monica from LAX to pick it up, where I got mine. Nice to hear the music throughout this documentary.
How wonderful! That is an incredibly special gift to have received from someone, especially Mr Bacharach. I think that it has the best “modern score” of any film and can never grow tired of listening to the opening or closing main song. Interestingly, the one piece that I don’t like is “The look of love”.
Interestingly, on the same LAX limo job I mentioned, I'd meet John Barry often. He was a jovial guy, and we even talked about where he lived on Long Island, overlooking Oyster Bay, and the nice area around there. @@unowen-nh9ov
yeah, "Casino Royale" is my VERY favorite 'James Bond' movie!!!! and I AM a VERY BIG fan of 'James Bond' movies!!!! (I have every 'James Bond' movie on DVD, except the last one).
I so remember this movie. I have seen some young people pan it but I loved it and still do. It was wacky but somehow it all came together. I was 14 when it came out and to see it I had to ride my bicycle to the theater an I sat through four showings. Of course we had no idea of the production problems but the end result was great.
Loved it when released saw it many times. Somebody has spliced Sean Connery and Orson Welles dueling at the Bacarrat table it’s on RUclips just a few weeks ago.
I think "The making of Casino Royale" would make a fantastic movie along same the lines of "Ed Wood" or "Shadow of the Vampire." I believe with the right treatment and actors you could get academy award material.
@@yeldarb4245 John Candy did a marvelous Orson Welles impression. He also did that marvelous over-the-top character in JFK. Alas, it's too late to use John.
Was 11 when this came out, was as awful as it was great,I loved it, I loved the soundtrack, watched and listened a dozen times, my 2 young boys watched it, the colors ,the clothes even the furniture was so 60's, thanks for posting,, great stuff
One of the few movies I have probably casually watched at least 30 or 40 times. It's entertaining it has a lot of very interesting funny parts but you can ignore as much of it as you want. You don't have to follow it because none of it makes any sense. But I'd love to all of the actors and the sets and the action and the music was fantastic.
Fabulous! I saw this film at what we then called "The Pictures" in Kingsbury, London at the age of eight. Looking at this documentary now, as an old bugger, I can see why it was such a patchwork quilt. Who knew Peter Sellers was such a crazy bugger? A fascinating piece of cinema history; love Val Guest's dry humour. Only thing that bugged me was the music playing ALL the time while people were talking.
Ironically, Joseph McGrath looks here like Peter Sellers himself. I am a big fan of this movie. I've seen it over 10 times just for the feel and style of it. and for the music. And to see all these beautiful people in it. I've not seen any of other James Bond movies more than 1-2 times.
A lot gets made about the 'incoherence' of this film, but in all honesty, there have been some pretty incoherent 'serious' Bond films. How many times has Bond fetched up in some exotic location, with it not being especially clear why he is there or what he is doing. Soon it doesn't matter, because all hell breaks loose and you forget about what's gone before... just like in "Casino Royale".
I, at age 14, went with my parents to see the movie in 1967. Two years ago, in 2018, I saw it again with my son, Paul, 33. It had gotten BETTER. I wish for all involved with the production to know it is the best James Bond film ever made.
I was hooked by the Soundtrack, one of the best ever. Also by Dahlia Lavi and Joanna Pettet. Couldn't resist that Eye Candy. Way too many Goofy Lines, but that was somewhat offset by David Niven's dialogues. Niven's speeches probably drove the film forward, more than anything else. What a professional
Why the weird , sad ending? - the ending sucked.. ? What happened to the Pettit character? ..why the haircut ?.😞😢 and why did the Sellers character get killed off ?!..Why was Andress' character evil ? Killing Sellers character off towards the end ??!? Feldman's Casino Royale(1967) was a campy mess. It felt like a parody of the 1960's spy movie-mania. The music score by Burt Bacharach and Herb Alpert is a keeper. EON got the Casino Royale film rights in the year 2000.
yeah!! can you imagine Orson Wells and Peter Sellers interacting on the same set and in the same scenes!!! instead, neither man was present while the other was acting! WOW!!!
Wonderful insanity , joyous whimsy , self-deprecating sly silliness, call it what you will . A film such as Casino Royale can never be made again . We take ourselves much , too much F-ing serious . And we are poorer for it.
This mini-doc only confirms that Casino Royale was a production train-wreck evident in the movie itself ... in short, IT SUCKED!!! (the music was good though 😊).
A right bloody waste of time and money! All those different directors and writers working on the film and failing to salvage anything. "Casino Royale" (1967) is a terrible film and a classic example of self-indulgence.

The brass in the theme song is amazing.
The whole Burt Bacharach score is sublime !

A movie drenched in the aura of its era. Yeah baby.
The film is totally NUTS, but it still makes me smile every time it's on the tv.

His 3rd Oscar nomination in 3 years, because it was early in his career it was important to him, he even lampooned John Barry's Born Free.

Orson Welles was superb. In this part. wouldn’t you just love to see him in one of the bonds as a villain…
The best part of this movie is Richard WIlliams' title design. It's up there with Saul Bass. Oh, and the music, for sure!
A masterpiece....a time we'll never see again
Until Austin Powers...
Enjoyable film mainly because of Burt Bacharach's great score. And Joanna Pettet and Deborah Kerr.
If Bette Davis was cast alongside Sellers, she would have complained about his unprofessionalism on talk shows for the rest of her life

This movie will be criticized till the end of time. But, we would not have had the Austin Powers series without it.

There are only two types of people in the world. Those who love Casino Royale (1966) and those who hate it.
Jimmy Page played on the soundtrack he confirmed in " Jimmy Page- The Anthology" book in 2020

The "sad ending" was, of course, swiped for "No Time to Die"...
Sellers' character was killed off because he's been sacked and David Niven was brought in to replace him.
Of course Andress's character was evil in the original novel - somehow a fair bit of the original story got in this movie!
Surprised they didn't cover the music or even mention Burt Bacharach at all! -- The score is the ONLY thing that made it for me.
