I have now seen Danny Burstein in three different shows, and he never ceases to amaze me. This is definitely the best performance I have seen him do, and perhaps its the best of his career. What an amazing performer, TALENT

He did but he’s finally a winner thanks to moulin rouge but I agree this was one of his best roles he played on Broadway he clearly should’ve won the Tony instead of Steve Kazee of Once
@ParkersStage It's something you have to see live to really enjoy, trust me. Not all of the performances are good -- Ron Raines is a wooden Ben, Linda Lavin was a terrible Hattie, and the direction itself needs some fixing -- but Burstein, Peters, Maxwell, and White were all sensational.
Patinkin was the first version I heard (see link below).* and I think is *funnier than doing it with a couple* , because as Buddy tries to play both roles he's so hyperbolic when stressing how he immediately becomes all smitten when the woman he likes ignores him... but if the woman becomes attached to him it's _"see-ya-later"_ and it drives him mad in the song going back-and-forth rejecting her and adoring her all over again if she lowers her interest in him: Like in the lyrics: _"Don't come any closer..."_ (rejecting her) ... _'cause you know how much I love you"_ (she looses interest and he's back to being attracted again *before he even finished the sentence* 😁) ... and what initially is him telling a story and mocking the girls, becomes the erratic switch of his back-and-forth behaviour with screams and those personalities bursting inside him... and ends up like a raving lunatic crazier than a bag full of hammers.... 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 I know it's a classic, and y'all have seen it, but this is the gold standard on how to maximise all the hilarity of the material ... much, much funnier than your standard duet... which I find really dull in comparison 🤷♂️ ruclips.net/video/NMCo0YHiioE/видео.htmlsi=upN9g7hR9GIYUz9e (Recorded Live At Avery Fisher Hall, New York City, September 6 and 7, 1985)
It's a shame he didn't receive the Tony. Probably because the show wasn't playing in NY at the time of the awards show. He nailed this part - funny, angry, loving, lost...this was about as good as performance as you can get. Far superior to Mandy Patinkin whose ego is just a bit too much trying to do all three parts and destroying all the fun and irony of the number, besides being to breathless to sing it properly. Danny's version is also vastly superior to Gene Nelson's original as well.
Burstein is a great talent but this doesn't begin to compare with Mandy Patinkin's version in the all-star Lincoln Center concert of 1985. For once Patinkin's over the top nature fit the part while the director had Burstein too controlled. The girls got it right though.
I have now seen Danny Burstein in three different shows, and he never ceases to amaze me. This is definitely the best performance I have seen him do, and perhaps its the best of his career. What an amazing performer, TALENT
If I see another Buddy in my lifetime that can even be mentioned in the same breath as Danny Burstein's, it will be a certifiable miracle.
he was great - saw this last week - absolutely AWESOME!
Saw it on Christmas Eve and thought it was amazing! Such a great old-fashioned Broadway show!
Danny was phenomenal. His performance literally moved me to tears on a few occasions. Brilliant! Thanks for posting this!
I agree! I saw it last night! One of the best. Yes, brilliant!
Dude, I saw this when I was in New York last year and you were AWSOME!!!!!! I went for Bernadette and discovered YOU! What acomplete joy! Thank you for a splended performance and life memory.
Danny Burstein never ceases to blow me away. What an insanely talented man. Fuck leading men! Character actors are the real deal!
It's seriously as if the role was made for him. He and Maxwell are just perfection, and it's worth it to go to the show solely to see them.
He is consistently good and deserved the Tony award for Drowsy Chaperone. Maybe this will be his year.

I agree with you. I usually don't care for Buddy's character or songs at all. Burstein was a revelation.
I'm ttly wearing that suit to my senior prom...
This would have stopped the show in NYC tonight, but they wouldn't stop it. There were about 5 showstoppers.
Danny deserved the Tony for Drowsy Chaperone and I've been a fan since seeing it. Hope he gets it for this hilarious and heartbreaking turn.
He did but he’s finally a winner thanks to moulin rouge but I agree this was one of his best roles he played on Broadway he clearly should’ve won the Tony instead of Steve Kazee of Once
If he doesn't win the Tony Award, I will die.
He did finally win a Tony he won for Moulin Rouge
That "MY HERO!" from Margie is a perfect comedy moment. That's the way it should always be done!

Please say you have Linda Lavin's Broadway Baby. And please post it if you do!
Surprisingly disappointing..

I got about a minute and a half into this. That's all it took to further prove the genius of Mandy Patkin's performance in the 85 concert.
Mandy's performance wasn't optimal. Doing all three parts made him too winded to do it correctly. This version hits all the right chords.
Patinkin was the first version I heard (see link below).* and I think is *funnier than doing it with a couple* , because as Buddy tries to play both roles he's so hyperbolic when stressing how he immediately becomes all smitten when the woman he likes ignores him... but if the woman becomes attached to him it's _"see-ya-later"_ and it drives him mad in the song going back-and-forth rejecting her and adoring her all over again if she lowers her interest in him:
Like in the lyrics:
_"Don't come any closer..."_ (rejecting her)
... _'cause you know how much I love you"_ (she looses interest and he's back to being attracted again *before he even finished the sentence* 😁)
... and what initially is him telling a story and mocking the girls, becomes the erratic switch of his back-and-forth behaviour with screams and those personalities bursting inside him... and ends up like a raving lunatic crazier than a bag full of hammers.... 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I know it's a classic, and y'all have seen it, but this is the gold standard on how to maximise all the hilarity of the material

Did he gain a bunch of weight for Moulin Rouge?
It's a shame he didn't receive the Tony. Probably because the show wasn't playing in NY at the time of the awards show. Don't like the voice he's doing - it reminds me of Stitch :S Love the choreography and Margie's over-the-top performance :D
