Almost gifted myself a Helios Rod for Christmas '23 but decided to go with the 8.5' 4W Recon. Plus Hydros reel. And love the combination!

I test casted one and was sold. Bought the F model 9’ 4W. They were sold out at the store but find one at another Orvis. Also net Mr. Rossenbauer. He’s a very nice and humble man.

The marketing of fly rods has been turned into an art form. The differences between $200 and $1000 rods are not as great as the industry would have us believe....

If you can afford to fly to Patagonia and every other destination resort who cares about a thousand dollar rod , buy the whole alphabet…

There’s this thing called “saving”. It works for 1/2 of the Country, you should try it.

If you spend more than $300 on a rod, you are fool.

...and there are some of us that like nice things and can afford them.

I’d rather be a fool that can afford a $1000 rod than to be you, buddy.

Yeah, all those fools who are on the water (like me) 150+ days a year and make money with their gear are lining up to buy sub $300 rods. You, sir, are not only a fool, you’re also jealous.
