I never understood why Imhotep’s mouth decomposed again when he kissed Evy. It makes no sense. And it’s interesting that his voice is deeper and scarier when he’s at least a little bit decomposed, whereas when he’s fully regenerated or close to it, his voice is normal.
It explains why Beni prevented and warned Burns not to touch Imhotep earlier; Imhotep is still an undead at this point and thus couldn't touch the living yet. It was the curse's way of motivating him to finish killing everyone who opened the chest.
