So here's a slightly unusual request for a reaction. Do some vintage Eddie Izzard. Like, something from The Definite Article, or Dress To Kill. His bit on the Death Star canteen, his Noah's Ark bit, his Executive Transvestite bit... In fact, just watch those early shows of his in full. He was one of the absolute best for a while there. (He's mostly lost his mojo now, but those early shows were incredible.)
He dropped the transvestite thing in later specials and shows but was still funny. I'm not sure what happened with that, but you def see a decline in both his appearances and his laugh out loud bits.
@@LordSpongy I think he just stopped working as hard once he had a large, loyal fanbase and a hell of a reputation. Another comedian who seems to have done that is Dave Chappelle. They're just resting on their laurels, I guess.
@@austenhead5303 Dave has been pumping out content lately tho? Dave retired from the comedy scene over a few specific issues like burnout and from what I understand the hiatus was much needed. He isn't resting on his laurels now. As for Eddie... I'm ok with that. He was insanely funny, so I'm happy if he's happy ya know?
@@LordSpongy Dave may be back with content, but it just is not half as funny as it used to be. Nowadays he's more preachy and self-indulgent than funny. And sure, good for them that they made enough money to relax, but I still miss two of my favourite comedians at the top of their game, you know?
@@austenhead5303 Well hard to beat some of those skits on Dave's show. From Rick James to the blind black kkk member, to The Racial Draft. But I have to disagree that he's not on his game right now. Comedians aren't just trying to be funny these days. they're the modern day philosophers. I think Carlin's influence and a few others really made stand up about more than laughing. Hell, Carlins last special wasn't even that funny, it was so real and sharp it was more like a class on life. Of course I can see your perspective too.
