For the math one yall couldn't get, You were correct in getting 28 as the first perfect and happy number. To find the set/parts, there are 28 elements because of it being the first part of the question. You end up with 2^28, because the number of subsets would be 2^n elements. You then calculate 2^28. You would get 268435456. The unique digits are 2, 6, 8, 4, 3, 5. In the full number, 4 appears twice, 5 appears twice, and 6 appears twice. There are 9 total digits meaning you could make the equation 9!/(2!*2!*2!) Simplified you get the fraction 362880/8. This fraction solves to 45360.
The wording is still very unfortunate. "Parts of a set" is not a mathematically well defined notion. "Number of subsets" or "cardinality of the power set" would've been clear. "Cardinality of the parts of a set" is not.

In the regards to the last question, the wording is a bit off but its a math question. 1) 28 is the first perfect and happy number. 2) by "parts of a set" they mean every sub sets possible so the question is "how many subset are possible of an original set with 28 elements" and the answer is 2^28 which is 268,435,456. 3) The last part is a combinatorics question, how many numbers can you make rearranging the digits (including repetitions) of 268,345,456 which is a classic multinomial question and the answer is 9!/(2!*2!*2!) which is 45360.

So to explain the final question, by parts of the set they mean subsets, so they are asking how many subsets you can make. For each of the 28 elements we can either include it in the subset or not, so we have 2 choices for each element, giving us 2^28 subsets, which works out as 268,435,456 (yes the empty set and complete set count as subsets). Then they are asking how many ways we can uniquely rearrange the digits to make a new number. There are 9! = 362,880 ways to rearrange 9 digits, but 4, 5 and 6 are each repeated once, so we have to divide by two for each of them to eliminate the times we counted swapping the same number around as different, giving us 362,880/8 = 45,360 which is our answer. I am a third year university maths student (from the UK ofc from my wording) and I still found this kinda confusing so don't worry too much about not getting it!
Yeah im a second year maths student and i couldn't figure it out because i only knew what they called "parts of a set" as the power set lol. Maybe part of nightmare mode was the ambiguity in his questions?? Like how it asked for the biggest number, which i interpret as the largest/greatest value, but wanted the longest number in roman numerals
@@GrassFudge7 The power set is correct! Remember the power set is the set of all subsets, I was just avoiding that term because people without a maths background wouldn't know what it meant.
50:36 A perfect number "a positive integer that is equal to the sum of its positive proper divisors (which exclude the number itself)", like 6 = 1 + 2 + 3 (the 1st perfect number), or 28 = 1 + 2 + 4 + 7 + 14 (the 2nd perfect number). A happy number is "a number which eventually reaches 1 when replaced by the sum of the square of each digit", and the first ones are 1, 7, 10, 13, 19, 23 and 28. So 28 is the first perfect and happy number. The "parts of a set" (which some languages like Spanish call the "set of the parts") is known in English as the power set, which is the set of all subsets of another set. For a set of 28 elements, its power set has 2^28 = 268435456 elements (that number is also called cardinality). 268435456 has 9 digits but 3 of those (6, 4 and 5) repeat two times each, so the number of different permutations you can make with those digits is 9!/(2!2!2!) = 362880/8 = 45360. 46:59 "Did this bear rise to the rank of lieutenant?" GTLive asking the big questions 😂 43:23 Yep, the question was badly phrased: by "largest" they actually meant "longest". That's why the answer is 3888 (MMMDCCCLXXXVIII), and not 3999 (MMMCMXCIX).
No, MMMCM is acceptable because CM are how you conventionally write 900. You have to be able to conventionally write all numbers up to that maximum. MMMCMXCIX is conventionally written. The three times rule is the amount of times that letter can be used in a row without interruptions.
@@RoderickEtheria That's a good point. Then it really is just phrasing and what they want is the number that is physically biggest, not the number that is highest.
(This question is actually meant to read, "How many unique permutations are there of the digits of the cardinality of the power set of a set with the first perfect and happy number of elements?" The first perfect and happy number is 28. The power set of a set with 28 elements has a cardinality of 268435456. Im surprised you have so much patience for riddles. I typically just get frustrated that i didnt have the information required to solve them or when figuring them out requires reading the question maker's mind more than actually thinking through to the logical conclusion.
I think it's so impressive that you both figured the basics of the questions so fast: Ash with the bear ww2 fun fact, Matt immediately remembering the SCP thing and WOW pandemic bc of an old Game Theory episode. Honestly, not so many people would figure these out by themselves instead of just googling "Chester quiz answers"
26:31 The question asks for the largest . The largest number you can write with standard Roman numerals is 3,999, which is represented as MMMCMXCIX. THE ANSWER SHOULD BE : MMMCMXCIX But the game say the largest number that can be written using conventional Roman numeral rules is 3888 F***ing my neighbourhoods The answer is MMMDCCCLXXXVIII
@lilik7323 If that was the logic, then you could never write 39 or 390 since those are XXXIX and CCCXC, respectively. No, the logic is simply that, while 3999 is the higher numerical value, 3888 requires more characters to write in Roman numerals. In other words, it's a larger character string.

Re the tree question. Technically a rhizome is not the same as a root. A rhizome is made from modified stem tissue which allows it to sprout new stalks, as well as a terminal growing bud.
1 like = 1 prayer for Ash, they’re really going through it over those numerals
Matt: "pay attention!"
also Matt: *proceeds to immediately forget what the goal of the game even is*
ash in their joker era bc of that roman numeral question
46:59 "Did this bear rise to the rank of lieutenant?" GTLive asking the big questions 😂
43:23 Yep, the question was badly phrased: by "largest" they actually meant "longest". That's why the answer is 3888 (MMMDCCCLXXXVIII), and not 3999 (MMMCMXCIX).
Was wondering why i related to Ash so much and realized they're the exact kinda person who'd be in my friend group. Godspeed homie
Omg no way I was literally just thinking about MatPat playing this game
Tom inspires me. My parents said if i get 100k followers They'd buy me a professional camera for recording. begging u guys, literally Begging.

No you weren't
@@Rusty84CV Yes he was
@@lc3670 how would you know
Ash having an existential crisis over Roman numerals💀
Never thought I'd see matpat play uno with a death clown
My thoughts exactly
3999 can only be written if you break the conventional rules of writing roman numerals by using the same letter more than three times.
Then it really is just phrasing and what they want is the number that is physically biggest, not the number that is highest.
i think the clown might not be a resident of the apartment
49:24 Who Wants to Be a Millionaire - phone a friend coming in clutch
We all know stuffs about to go down once we got matpat playing "that's not my neighbor" again 😂
All of the quiz questions are trivia questions from "The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy" by: Douglas Adams.
Who needs jumpscares when you have roman numerals?
(This question is actually meant to read, "How many unique permutations are there of the digits of the cardinality of the power set of a set with the first perfect and happy number of elements?" The first perfect and happy number is 28. The power set of a set with 28 elements has a cardinality of 268435456. There are 45360 unique permutations of the digits making up that number.) --- from the updated wiki
I9:12. "Get this rifraf outta here" it reminded me of - "Rifraf, street rat, I don't buy that." Lol

That quiz felt perfect for the combined power of the entire game theory office .
Bonus points to past episodes relating to some of the qustions or back story of matpats life
i love that you shouted out Bijuu Mike
Mat having the rules of roman numerals backwards was my nightmare mode.
Slap a bowtie and a hat on Mat Pat cuz he be lookin like the Milkman after how exhausting that last Chester question was 👏
I love how for most of Chester's questions the Theorists awnsered then with sheer combined intellect alone
Ash tweaking out over Roman numerals is the highlight of my week
Hey, I didn't know bijuu was the first! Props to my boy!!
🙌 my boii
Am I trippin' or das Mat look somehow even more handsome in this video, than he already did before? The extra time from not having to film videos for 5 channels does wonders :D
Your not wrong
34:31 ash's screetch is PERFECT LMFAO
I appreciate you guys for taking the time to think through that quiz because personally when I struggled through it in that’s not my neighbor I was worried I was the only one trying to actually think of an answer
"the busses name is struggle" 😂😂😂😂😂
The way Ash SHRIEKED when they saw the Roman numeral answer 😂 Roman numerals are Ash’s greatest enemy.
“What. What. What. What. No. No.” Ash I love you with all my heart
“LET ME IN, LET MEE IIIIIIIIIIINNNNN!!!”
Im surprised you have so much patience for riddles. I typically just get frustrated that i didnt have the information required to solve them or when figuring them out requires reading the question maker's mind more than actually thinking through to the logical conclusion.
WOOOOOO your banter on this game is always so fun and im gonna laugh watching this video i know it
I think it's so impressive that you both figured the basics of the questions so fast: Ash with the bear ww2 fun fact, Matt immediately remembering the SCP thing and WOW pandemic bc of an old Game Theory episode. Honestly, not so many people would figure these out by themselves instead of just googling "Chester quiz answers"
I didn’t understand like 90% of the words from that quiz
Ngl watching you two solve those riddles was MAGIC! So satisfying!
Ash, I appreciate your mental sacrifice in this video 🥲🙏🏼

The question asks for the largest . The largest number you can write with standard Roman numerals is 3,999, which is represented as MMMCMXCIX.
THE ANSWER SHOULD BE : MMMCMXCIX
But the game say
the largest number that can be written using conventional Roman numeral rules is 3888
F***ing my neighbourhoods
The answer is MMMDCCCLXXXVIII
Someone explained that according to rules of Roman numeral you can use each letter only 3 times. In 3,999 you have 4 M, so you break that rule
@@lilik7323The rule is you can’t have one numeral repeated RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER more than three times. You can do MMMCM but you can’t do MMMMC
Theory: Horror mode just shows what actually happens to caught doppelgangers. Instead of "cleaning" dopples from apartments, they just relocate to their own city?
Ash is a precious cinnamon bun and they must be protected at all cost. I felt their whole roman numeral character arc lol.
So many emotions! They were not alone in that lol
Easiest way to remember is 4 and 6. 4 is IV and 6 is VI. Since 1-12 is seen the most in roman numerals on clocks. A smaller roman numeral before a larger one detracts.
I can't believe they gave the professional video game lore man some video game lore. I've never heard MatPat so happy.
OMG Bijuu Mike mentioned! He was literally all I watched in middle school and it feels so nostalgic to hear his name in the intro 🥹
46:00 I wrote a whole research paper on the bear for my English class! I knew the second i saw the question
Re the tree question. Technically a rhizome is not the same as a root. A rhizome is made from modified stem tissue which allows it to sprout new stalks, as well as a terminal growing bud. Rhizomes are also storage organs for food and water for plants. Some rhizomes are edible, a good example being ginger. That's your plant info dump of the day.
I love Ash's commentary so much they slay
Roman Numerals are now Ash's Roman Empire. 🤣

We can all agree that we're all happy Ash got to go to sleep happy after solving the Roman numeral one right?
It would cool that this ‘nightmare’ realm is where the doppelgängers come from! The D.D.D probably opened a portal. And being nightmare beings that feast on humans negative energy/flesh/souls makes a pretty good motive to try to get in!
